Anyone ever tried Minoxidil for beard growth?

I think some of you guys are mistaking that pic in the op with what I'm trying to say. The dude had no hair follicles on his face prior to starting it. The minoxidil helped wake them up. Here's another after picture of the dude. If he stopped shaving for a year, he'd have a bush.

and here's the forum where it got posted.

It's $25 for a 6 month supply. Once your hair start growing, you stop and don't need it again.

The thread you linked is full of people talking about side effects they attribute to minoxidil. The thread was closed by the moderator team. I really think it's not such a good idea to follow advice in that thread based on one or two success stories.

. I know there is side effects, but the one that worries me the most is your head hair falling out ( shedding I guess). Even though you apply it to your face, it effects your head hair as well.

Also, from that site you linked to:

I've been using it for 3 weeks now, twice a day (mostly) and I am seeing results, however I have noticed that my head hair is shedding quite a lot, I was running my hand through my hair earlier and there where 6 hairs on my palm. In the shower it's the same. I'm not balding or anything either. Hopefully this will stop once I've stopped using it.

I have been using minoxidil for beard growth since I was 17, I am 22. as I saw it helped many people grow a nice beard - myself included.

I just got the results back from a blood test (about an allergy), and the doctor discovered I have 50k/nl platelets in my blood! (Normal range is 150-400k/nl) which means my blood cannot clot very well AT ALL. It also causes other problems such as fatigure, bleeding from gums and eyes and jaundice along with others...

It turns out this can happen AS A DIRECT RESULT OF MINOXIDIL USE! I had no clue whatsoever that this could happen when I started!

The doctor says I need to avoid all contact sports and any sport where I can be cut and watch myself and everything I do. I have to return for a blood test ASAP and will probably have to be monitered for the forseeable future.

PLEASE DON'T USE MINOXIDIL FOR BEARD GROWTH! ESPECIALLY IN LARGE AMOUNTS! I cann't believe that I was so freaking stupid...

Beards are cool, but not bleeding to death is much, much cooler. This will probably stay with me forever.
Stay safe

Orrer3:

I am simply amazed that anyone would continue using a product in a manner not approved by either the manufacturer of the Food & Drug Administration when that product causes chest tightness. Minox. is, at its core, a blood pressure medication. The very suggestion that you would modify the dose to "one lot a day" speaks to a reckless experimentation at the expense of your own health. Don't do it!

In the meantime take note of this board's position on minoxidil as contained in Rule #23:

23. Use of Minoxidil and any of its variants (e.g. Rogaine) on the face is explicitly discouraged by the Beard Board, unless it becomes approved for such use by the manufacturer and/or the FDA. Further, the Beard Board explicitly forbids discussion of Minoxidil, or any of its variants, in the Teen forum.

Most, if not all, success stories on this board pertaining to the use of minoxidil follow a methodology that is scientifically unsound.

Cheers,

Sean

OP.

You probably shouldn't smear this stuff on your face. People sell this stuff to make money. Miracle drugs don't exist. Don't gamble your health away. Not for a beard, of all things.

Not having a beard really isn't the end of the world. Lots of people don't have beards. Harrison Ford doesn't have a beard. It's fine.

This stuff sounds insane.

maybe i will run the experiment. 35 here and can't grow shit. might be fun. only if there's little health risk to slathering it on my cheeks.
Yeah i am 32 and can grow a decent amount of goatee chin hair but mustache and sides i get fucking nothing but if i buzz my head that shits fully grown back and shaggy in like a goddamn month.

For some reason i just never got that facial hair gene from my dad which i guess is lucky because i also don't get disgusting back hair. I would try this if i knew it didn't pose any real risk to my health because i literally have nothing to lose other than my health because i keep it clean shaving anyways.

Minoxidil isn't a scam, its an actual FDA approved drug. Perhaps not to put on your face, but still.

As blood pressure medication. Not a hair growth drug. That's pretty important here. You're not exactly supposed to be taking that kind of medication if you don't need it, that's insane.

The FDA doesn't approve of using it in this way. It's dangerous and frankly reckless. Especially for something so silly. Not having a beard isn't the end of the world.

Uh, no; that is actually completely wrong. You haven't heard of Rogaine? Rogaine IS minoxodil; OP is talking about putting generic Rogaine on your face. Of course its approved for hair growth. "Minoxidil 2% Solution is indicated for the treatment of alopecia androgenetica in men and women aged between 18 and 65."

It isn't marketed as a blood pressure medication and hasn't been for a very long time. They don't sell blood pressure medication over the counter.

For me to believe this I'd need to have video proof of a man growing a beard from age 30 onward with the aid of this product. While prior never having been able to grow one at all. I couldn't grow a full beard out until age 25. It takes a long time and people aren't patient and then some people just don't have the genes for it. Just the luck of the draw.

Accept who you are. I can't grow a beard that's okay. Some of you fucks will be balding in college. That's okay too.

I actually did this a few years ago (I think I was 22 or 23) for a few months. My facial hair was pretty patchy. I remember reading up on it on that Beard Forum, so I gave it a shot. Applied it twice a day to my face for a few months. It certainly did help hair grow...but the new hair seemed thin and wispy.

Also, it was really annoying having to apply this shit to your face twice a day...having to wait for it to dry...then after it dries it kinda leaves the application area a little bit white, so you have to rinse it off...one day I came to my senses and realized this is stupid.

Can't say it really helped in the long run. Over time my beard did more or less naturally fill in, and by that time I had lost interest in actively developing a beard.

Just bought six months of this shit... lets do this.

I literally have the chin of a girl, no hair at all, so if this works ...it'll be pretty neat.

Actually it has been approved by the FDA for hair growth, under the brand Rogaine.
The problem is spreading it on the face probably causes way more to be absorbed into the body than the scalp, especially if people are whacking tons of it on.

I think I might give it ago too. I'll stop if I think I'm getting sides. I think you should probably just start with .5 ML first for a week or two then do the 1ML that everyone else does. Start slow.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
You just have to let it grow, at first when you are younger it can be patchy but I find those fill in over time.

I never realised that some people were so desperate to grow a beard that they would be willing to put their health at risk.

There more you know I guess.

I can only grow a mustache and a goatee-like thing. I don't even grow connectors :(. I would need minoxidil to grow a beard. I tried once (naturally, not with minoxidil) and it was sad, I just can't. My genetics say, "NO!"

Have had about three people the past year ask why I don't grow a full beard, and I always think, "there are more than two facial hair styles right? It's not just clean shaven and full beard?"

I've never thought about this before, and now because I saw this thread, I may use minoxidil one day to grow a beard. But probably not.

Eh, if you're under say 30 you don't even know what your growth will be in the future. Beards will eventually go out of style anyway. Doesn't really seem like a safe thing to do.

Trans dudes use this shit to grow facial hair. It works.
I mean it's approved for that use. Most of the people saying they're sure it won't work are just being skeptical to be skeptical.

I also personally don't buy that it will harm you way more on your face vs. your scalp.

I don't see how it could. Unless you secretly have a lot of hair in the face just waiting to grow.

Minoxidil works for baldness because the hair roots are actually still there. But they grow hair that is too thin and weak to even grow out of the skin layer (without breaking off).
It does not grow actual new hair. Thus no sudden full beard.

Many of you clearly don't know what its like to be so feminine you actually pass as a girl more than a man.

It was fun for a while, but now I'm in my 30s id like to look a little bit more masculine.
Just the 3 month result would be amazing for me.

As for the health concerns, well... you wouldn't believe the stuff ive done to my body...

why do you want a beard so much? If i never had to shave again I'd be happy.

I have facial hair. One side is a bit weaker than the other and I have a few patches where the hair isn't growing thick yet. I want to use this to help fill in.

Six months for that?!?!?!

I thought I had it bad since it takes me like a month for that.

He didnt stop shaving for 6 months. He used the product for that amount of time. He had Zero hair on his cheeks before.

Just turned 28 and I'm 2 months into a minoxidil beard experiement but i only apply once a day instead of twice (foam version). I'm japanese so the few hairs i have are thin and sparse. It's been that way since high school. If I dont shave, the scraggly hairs along my chin just look gross, so I'd rather try to fill out with a beard since I still have to shave every day anyway. The hair I do have is mostly just around chin area and a super weak mustache.

Progress so far has filled in a lot with tiny hairs, it's pretty nuts. Side effects are dry skin, wake up dehydrated/cottonmouth/dry eyes, sticky hands? I'm really trying to drink enough water. Also going through what I'm assuming is the "shedding" phase but i have a shit ton of hair on my head so I'm not worried. Didn't even think to take progress pics :/

The worse side effect I've experienced from applying 5% strength minoxidil on my face and rubbing it in for 3 1/2 months is my face being ashy as fuck.

I can't grow a beard at all, but I don't give a fuck because I'm half Asian. All I can muster is that fu manchu area. I have to shave it every day because the facial hair I do have grows pretty fast, and just having hair above your mouth and on your chin is wack.

lol at rubbing that shit on your face tho.

Plus, doesn't all the hair fall out when you stop using it?

There are 3 phases that facial hairs go through: vellus (thin/wispy), transitional (thicker), and terminal (permanent).

Vellus, almost for sure, and some transitional hairs will stop growing if you discontinue use, but terminal hairs will not.

I know lots of dudes that can't grow a full beard. I was taught at a VERY young age to start shaving(before I needed too), pretty sure that's why my shit is overgrown. It's nice to be able to grow a beard, but the maintenance sucks. Anyway, if you feel you need a beard that badly, go for it. Who gives a shit.

Not if it goes terminal.

I do feel silly but fuck it, I want a decent beard or at least a sexy scruffy look which I'm sort of pulling off now thanks to the minoxidil; the months before that growing it out I just looked scraggly.

if you want to change something about yourself and you can, why not do it?

Seems a lot of y'all misunderstood the time stamp in the OP. That's not a pic of him not shaving for 6 months. That's equal trimmer use on a regular basis, before and after using the medicine for 6 months. It's showing that the regular growth is thicker after 6 months of the medicine.

i actually thought of trying to apply rogaine on the sides of my face to see if it grow a beard. some of the warnings though are a bit troubling. Mainly about the testosterone or something in there that women shouldn't come into contact with

I've never heard of beard growth taking as long as it does in the OP picture, unless that person is like a teenager.

His 6 months mark is me in like a week, and I'm 28.

DO NOT USE THIS STUFF.

The side effects are horrible and it barely works. My hands and feet all swelled up, I stopped using it 1 year ago and still have stiff hands. There was a period of about 4 months where I couldn't make a fist.
