Super Bomberman R patched to 1.3: 60fps, story mode camera changes, lag improved, etc

Waiting for official testing for this one. We all know the patch improves the frame rate but we need to know if it really does 60fps locked.

I guess this is what happens when the game that they funded with about 2 bottles of sake managed to become one of the best selling games in the series. I definitely think I can recommend this now.

But, as a downside the game does look worse (they definitely took an axe to the polygons).

wtf are you serious? this game already looks like shit and they had to downgrade it to get to 60 fps? maybe if this was on ipod. amazing.

Given that free DLC in planned, I think Konami views this as a long-term title to support.
And I'm happy they are! Hopefully the continued support gives Bomberman some of that Nintendo evergreen magic.

New Castlevania directed by the person that did Circle of the Moon, plz.

It was a bit clickbaity on my part. 60fps was my first jump since alternate higher framerates are odd and I wasn't noticing any dips.
The bombs themselves definitely seem to have less polygons, unless I'm mis-remembering. Also, player shadows seem lower resolution.
Player characters in general look a little worse. Actually now that I look at this screenshot I took, the lighting in general seems worse.

So new end goal: back to original visuals with 60?

I think the tradeoff is worth it. The game is just visually unappealing, period. So I'm ok with a visual downgrade if it means better performance.

Glad they've tried to fix the story mode bosses. I beat the game during launch week and it was pretty fucked. The first boss was insanely difficult, while the last boss was a cake walk.

Looking forward to replaying it to see all the changes!

Is there still offline lag? I feel like I remember hearing that was a thing in this game.
I'm pretty sure 1.2 fixed that.

There was something really hooking about magnet bomber's absurd difficulty.

I hope they didn't touch golem or karaoke phase 2, those are really fun.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
If this is true, and it's locked, they just won a sale.

Short of straight up removing the in-game currency, those patch notes fix every complaint I had about the game.

Damn good showing for a title I expected to get zero post-launch support.

Was going to buy it at launch, but held off because of the input lag complaints, has that been fixed?

Might have to pick this up along with MK8 Deluxe and Puyo Puyo next week.

Edit - Nevermind, I see it's been fixed. Nice

I don't mind the currency in theory.
My problem is the way they use the alternate colors as an absurd time sink.

Also I could live with a new voice track. Cutscenes look so good but they sound so awful.

It's the Wii U sizzle-reel effect.

"Wow...these look so much worse than the 360 versions."

Then the next day, we learn the footage was from 360 versions.

The only bummer about all of these improvements is that it's probably not going to get back to all of the people who wrote it off as a half ass cash grab when it came out.

I hope it sold well. I don't want to live in a world where Bomberman is dead.

Just tested this. I don't know if the graphics have really been downgraded but:

Story mode: looks 60fps, seems stable.

Battle mode, 8 player map, 7 AI characters: locked at 60fps.

Haven't tried online battle yet.

Edit: I played a few hours of story mode before this patch. There is definitely a framerate difference in story mode now.

I think it sold very well for Konami regardless of the people who crapped on it.

They're doing all this because surprisingly bomberman R sold well on switch

It was in March's top 20 for NPD and it was the best debut for the franchise in ~20 years in Japan, where it's getting pretty close to crossing the 100K mark in the next couple months.

It's doing fine.

Having it all be sold for 50 bucks probably is putting a decent amount back in konami's pocket aswell, and perhaps with this, konami will work with nintendo more often since they were the ones that suggested this.

It would be funny if this become Konami's evergreen title that keeps selling for long periods even if it's not topping the charts.
