Phantom Dust XBO/Win10 port coming out soon....where is the media for it?

If this releases as a GwG it would be almost poetic, the game will have gone from having a super limited release originally to being exposed to the most people possible upon launch.

I agree in making it a gwg title. Then if the game takes off, develop a sequel.

I think a crap ton of people who play this game end up loving it but feel like it didn't get the exposure it needed along with being a little ahead of it's time. Being GwG definitely gets rid of the exposure issue it always had.

My hype levels are through the roof right now. My Gold is expired but I'll def renew for this. Is xbox/pc crossplay still a thing for this?

It was definitely ahead of it's time.

Also...That username.

Although I'd love to get it released as GwG all the theories around it being gwg next month just lead to hurt the game if finally it's not imo.
I love the idea tho

Nope it runs in HD without upscaling, if it was upscaled it would look a lot worse lol

Where do you took that from?

SHe says OG graphics dude ,HD ones are just hud elements,UI afaik?

and game being 4GB (which is same size of OG version ) without cutscenes( with cutscenes its 8GB) pretty much confirms its just barebones port of OG version with current online features.

If I'm not mistaken, this is actually a bit more complicated:

What they are doing is releasing a free "Multiplayer Starter Pack" containing 33 Skills so you can make a custom Arsenal from the beginning rather than having to play the single player until Chapter 3*.

The full list of skills contained in the pack can be found here.

The multiplayer skill shop will be available from the get go, but you still have to earn all those skills not contained in the free DLC with credits.

Crap really? I thought they said cards would all be unlocked by default. That's a bit of a bummer.

It would look a lot worse if it was just upscaled like a lot worse particularly the chains. That or they have some really impressive upscaling stuff

Tells you all you really need to know about how much MS gives a crap about the IP or this port.

They care enough to port it. I dont think they expect it to be a big time seller, which is why it always had a small budget.

After canning the remaster, we are lucky they still ported it honestly.

Been excited for this game for a while. Hopefully it gets a following, even if a small niche one. Would like to see it do well enough for them to look into making a sequel. Doubtful, but still I can hope.

We know stuff is coming next week now, and while I don't think yours is necessarily a wrong opinion to have, it might be just a bit early. Come next week if we get some solid footage, a release date, and a good price, ill be more than content.

Well its worth pointing out that the port is being done by Code Mystics, who are self described as "a game developer specializing in cross-platform solutions with a particular focus on both emulation and porting services for digital distribution". Code Mystics themselves seems to be comprised of former Digital Eclipse employees, another company famous for specializing in porting/emulating games.

So it could be that there's a lot of technical wizardry going on that cant be explained simply. I hope Digital Foundry takes a look at this upon release.

Yeah for returning players its gonna be a pain to have to unlock everything again, but I don't mind it. I do feel like giving newcomers everything at once could be a bit much though, so the starter pack isn't a bad idea either.

I have this feeling they will be giving it away for free for the short period of E3 or whatever to kick off E3 with a bang.

This post literally says its not HD though?
So far my post is still stands out true

Actually, you didn't say "not HD", you specified the game was 480p and just being upscaled , and that post literally says that's not all that's going on.

They said they didnt touch game internal resolution so pretty sure it means 480p .

Just upscaled to HD UI and Resolutions.

but game itself is 480p

They killed any hype for it when they said it will be 480p? upscaled not even full remaster, let alone it was a remake once

But take it however you want.

Opricnik, someone from MS posted some insight (though not full details) in an earlier thread that the old explanation didn't really represent how it looked, which was around the time the newest screenshot was released also showing that it definitely wasn't original resolution for the rendering.

They said as part of the lead-up, there would be some exclusive third-party tech analysis for mini-marketing. There's no need to be overly harsh about it, but all signs are that you're mistaken (which is good).

Well, did you really expect a massive marketing push when the development of this port was something even Spencer didn't know about?

http://www.polygon.com/e3/2016/6/15...t-re-release-announcement-was-a-surprise-even

Spencer: I sent out a tweet three weeks ago where I said "[Microsoft Studios head of first-party publishing] Shannon Loftis just won E3." And that was when she showed me. She kept that thing hidden from me, and then she sprung it on me."

Polygon: How?

Spencer: Shannon runs a big part of our organization, so she has money that she just squirreled away to go do something. She brings in this video — I don't actually know what video they released, I'm sure it wasn't what they showed me — but it said "reimagined for Xbox Live." She went through all of the things, and it said "early 2017," I think, and then it said "Phantom Dust." So I asked "What is this?" And she said, "It's Phantom Dust. It's happening." And I said "What are you talking about, it's happening?!" And she said that it was almost done.

I had the impression that it was just a cool little gesture for the old-school Xbox fans rather than a big release.

There's a very good reason Shannon said what she did about original rendering, but it's no longer true.

As I said, more info next week, but I'll pop back on to clarify anything that was missed after the interview is out - I think I rambled a bit - easy to do with a game you love.

Woo, appreciated. Nice to see a window to expect the interview, too.

This always seemed like a perfect "Oh, and it's out now" E3 announcement/shadow drop.

I have this feeling they will be giving it away for free for the short period of E3 or whatever to kick off E3 with a bang.
For sure, like, "By the way, it's out now! (or after the show) AND if you are a xbox live member you can get it for free for a limited time this week only!"

Phantom Dust remake cancellation coupled with Scalebound cancellations were two of the worst moments for me in Xbox history.

It's hard to get hopes up for this after the excitement I had at E3 2013. Wouldn't be surprised if they cancelled the HD version half way through and just decided to give us an emulated port at this point.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

They're going to cancel the Scorpio for Kinect 3.0

I will forever uphold that if Microsoft had properly taken the risk of carefully developing a AAA Phantom Dust reboot, it would have been an enormous hit.

It could have met so many criterion for MS:
• Competitive Esports focus, marrying a fighting game with a TCG
• Controller-centric, thus Xbox-PC on even playing-field
• Potential for Killer Instinct or Hearthstone model - super accessible, rife with microtransactions
• Micro-transaction potential - character cosmetics, cards, and maps
• Engaging story, with interesting aesthetic, characters, and soundtrack

Yeah the original game was really ahead of its time in so man ways and an updated big budget version could do really well in this day and age. Not too mention there is still nothing really much like it out there to date.

I'm an enormous Phantom Dust fan, I've pushed the game on tons of friends (often with success even!), but I can't agree.

The most fundamental aspect of Phantom Dust that you're missing here is just how weird the whole thing is. That strangeness is part of its flavor, I wouldn't want it any other way, but it also means creating a AAA budget reboot would be extremely risky. Weird games can do fine when properly budgeted, but the idea that MS should spend $50+ million on a game like Phantom Dust makes no financial sense.

Their original, more conservative plan for the reboot was good for all the reasons you listed, but it's simply not mass market enough to go huge.

I think it would be better for them to release the game on Xbox Game Pass. A good way to get the service up and going (and if someone wants to just buy it they still can)

can't see this being a GwG title for its release date, and I also hope it isn't, being at 20-30$ is enough. I wish it sells good enough so people at MS see it as an IP to invest in.

You realize that story is about this thread, right?

I wasn't sure if he was doing a NeoGAF > Internet > NeoGAF full circle thing. ha You can clearly see in the screenshot Phil posted it's HD (1080p/16:9) it used to be 480/4:3. It will be interesting to read about the technical details, which if Adam was rambling, I imagine the interview delves into. I'm hyped!
