Prey Demo: Opening Hour Thread: Everything is Going to Be OK

It's awesome they're putting out a demo but I wouldn't want to play the first hour before it comes out
Same. Honestly, I don't really know much about this game at all, and for the first time in a long time I think I'm going to keep it that way. Got it preordered from Best Buy for 35 bucks (thanks Visa Checkout!) so I'm just going to let it rock. I've been wanting to play a PC game for a while too. :)

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
Doesnt look like its up in NA yet

Aw yeah, I've been waiting for this for a few weeks since they announced a demo. Anyone know if the demo is going to have PS4 Pro enhancements?

edit:
Can you continue your save from the demo into the real game?

I would also like to know about that, but I suspect that's probably a no.

Usually I wouldn't either, but I know I'm going to accidentally spoil the opening twist between now and release so I'd rather see it properly in-game. Admittedly after watching the trailer and other footage it's pretty easy to guess though.

Playing it now. It's quite pretty on a regular PS4. Framerate early on seems ok too.

Initial load times around 30 seconds on the original PS4 hdd.

if it's the opening hour I don't see how going in blind changes anything, it's not like you're playing a random segment from the middle of the game

It gives out a twist 15 minutes into the game, so if you wanna go blind, you're better off not playing the demo

Which reminds me, if you guys wanna discuss anything about the plot, I highly suggest putting it in spoiler tags.

Is it locked to 30fps?

Yeah. I haven't gone far but it seems steady early on.

Some shots from the very beginning, as soon as you gain control.

yeah but what I'm saying is it starts from the opening of the game so you're still going in blind technically, you just get to play the first bit of the game a bit earlier than you would if you waited for release

it doesn't spoil you on anything out of order

What I'd like to know is if there's options to turn off the mimic warning sound and visual aides.... they seem completely counter to the mimic's gameplay loop.

My only pre-demo fear seems justified. The music ruins the suspense of the mimics when you know one has recently hidden itself in your proximity. Would rather it be triggered by an actual attack animation, if it all. Should be a simple fix, we'll see.

If there's no input lag on the xbox one version and a dev has said they have a fix for the PS4 version, I don't think there's too much cause for concern there. It's hard to say what the deal will be for PC.

Level design, art direction, and world building seem to be first-class once again. Can always trust Arkane for that.

This is essentially a playable version of the 1 hour footage they've already released, right?

From what I remember, it's a slow start. The crazy things shown in the trailers likely won't be there in the demo.

Yeah, but I'm going to guess there's a fair amount you can do in that opening section considering the non-linear design of the game.

I'm definitely eager to check out the options as well, might be a lot more limited as a demo though.

When does it go up every where else?

I saw one gameplay video of the opening hour (Destructoid, IIRC) where they used GLOO Cannon to get through the window in
Morgan's Office
rather than using the stairs

So I'm pretty sure there'll be some creative ways to go through the demo despite the limitations.

Man, this game is quite tough. My suit got permanently damaged and now I'm taking 50% more damage until I can repair it. I wasted my shotgun shells on a Phantom, so I only have a wrench and a few stun gun rounds.

There are also several status effects that affect your character, such as boosts from eating food, fear (can be cured by alcohol), exhaustion etc.

The environments are quite large, even early on. Lots of ways to explore and experiment, and the GLOO cannon almost feels like cheating when it comes to building your own stairways to out-of-reach areas.

I'm also happy to confirm that the mimics aren't as scripted as seen in the preview videos. A lot of stuff in the early footage didn't trigger for me, and now I'm constantly on alert for these things. It's hard to avoid taking damage, could be a control issue. Something feels a little off (not used to playing first person games with thePS4 controller @ 30 fps).

I hope there are toggles for item highlights, objective markers, and FOV in the PC version.

...sounds pretty good! I feared the sim/survival stuff was jettisoned and it really was going to be "Bioshock in space."

How did it feel fighting a Phantom? That's my main concern with this game, how the combat against the Typhon is.

Everything else sounds great
