Prey Demo: Opening Hour Thread: Everything is Going to Be OK

Input lag wasnt fixed for PS4, was it? This, and the obvious red flag of no PC demo makes really sad. Its like they are not even trying to hide anymore.

For PS4 too? That's a shame, if Arkane ever fixed the Heart being only in the controller speaker for Dishonored 1, I would have loved to pick up 2.

Yes, i actually immediately stopped playing dishonored 2 because i'm to sensitive for that kind of stuff. It's by far the worst offender on ps4 that i've played
Tried getting attention to it via twitter but never got a response.

So just a heads up for people who are also sensitive for this kind of stuff.

Just a simple google search give you tons of results so i'm definitely not alone who gave feedback, still amazed they never tried to fix it. Lesson learned i guess.

Well shit, guess I'm never playing dishonored 2 either.

Yeah. This is really heartbreaking.

welp

the double whammy of xcom 2 and dishonored 2 pc versions being garbage last year was really disheartening (and xcom 2 launched PC only lol)

AGAIN?

Canceling pre-order. I was burned badly with Dishonored 2 but I didn't think they'd pull the same thing twice.

The creative director, Raf Colantonio, has assured everyone that the pc version will be "flawless at launch."

You guys obviously saw it, but from the PC Gamer article : Colantonio knows the pressure is on. ”The Dishonored 2 release came as a surprise to us. PC is difficult because there are so many configurations out there, and a new driver just came out, so it's just a difficult thing. And we did underestimate a little bit, so this time we're really aware of it," he says. ”That doesn't mean we can guarantee there won't be any problems, but we'll do our best so that it's pretty smooth."

XCOM2 didn't run all that well but I can understand with all of the improvements to destructibility and procedural level generation.

Dishonored 2 is almost broken, with crazy framerate issues that never go away on my system. It lurches and judders as though there are severe frametiming problems. G-Sync doesn't correct it. Such a disappointment, especially after the butter-smooth first game.

Cmon Arkane. I was annoyed when 70% of the conversation around Dishonored 2 was about performance, but you gotta be on top of that stuff...

It's a different team and a different engine.

Yes, those two impressions are worrying, but I'm still keeping my head up for release. No clue why anyone would pre-order though.

Lmao no wonder I don't hear shit when I use the heart. Thought my game broke.

Yeah right? I have to choose between either waking up my entire apartment or have subtitles on for the entire game. I chose neither lol, can always get it on 360 I suppose, not like the PS4 version is 60fps and has great loading times. Only thing I'd be missing out on would be the free DLC and 1080p. Why devs continue to insist on not at least giving an option to reroute the shitty controller speaker is beyond me.

Is there an input lag problem? Camera movement feels terrible. I also see a lot of jaggies and shimmering on PS4 Pro so there is either no pro features enabled for demo or this is another game that does not downsample on 1080p displays.
Lol that same fucking problem was with dishonored 2. The aiming is HORRIBLE. The devs not play the game?

They could start with fixing their previous $60 game.

The part where "PC Its so difficult, they have these things called drivers, one just came out" made me think they have no clue.

This is some bizarro world when the Original Dishonored ran like a dream. I really dont know what happened.

And with PS4 being a closed platform with the same specs throughout all households and still not fixing the input lag for that apparently.

Edit: Looks like the thread title is more relevant than expected.

Good pre-order discounts on sites like Greenmangaming.

I guess I should rephrase as I don't understand pre-ordering in general when you don't know the state of the game or if it's digital/widely available. That's for another thread though, but that PC gamer article has been up for 2+ months.

Prey was one of my favorite game on 360, I even got the 1000G back then, I'm really looking forward to this one! Since I love Arkane, I'm not too worried.

Downloading right now on PS4 Pro, but damn 12,8Gb is rough for my slow connection. :(

Holy shit the music (or mashup of grating sound effects) is irritating af. Literally makes me want to mute the damn thing.

I just turned down the music to 0. Waaaay better.

What does "A new driver came out" even mean? Don't Nvidia/AMD typically put out drivers to enhance games that have since been released? Lol

So I should prey for an input lag fix?

I'll pass on the demo if it's that bad. Can't handle that shit.

Just keep in mind this has nothing to do with Prey (2006) beyond the name. It's also worth noting that Bethesda treated the series creators like shit, going so far to as attempting to bankrupt them through milestone abuse.

Yeah, I heard about that... Well, let's say that I trust Arkane, they never disappointed me. Also I don't plan to buy it on day one (my backlog is just crazy...), but when it'll be like 20€ like I did for Dishonored 2, so I'm not taking a crazy risk. :p

Still excited about it!

Head's up: The PS4 Demo has an input latency issue that's been addressed in the full version for next week.

Oh, that's good to know! Any chance you have any info on the PC build? Or if anyone PC specific information is coming out before next week?

That preview is from the old preview builds so I wouldn't put too much stock in it. The reddit post says they don't know much about PC gaming, so how did they know the framerates dropped? Did they have an on screen counter? Are they actually experts? I'm not counting out the PC version being shitty, but those two example are pretty crap tbh.

You can never play on a PC before in your life and still notice frame drops if you've played other games before. Hell you can even tell what they are without playing games ever, it's just a bit harder to pinpoint and define. When they said they didn't know much about PC gaming I took that to mean they didn't know much about stuff like drivers, specs, downsampling, borderless mode etc. etc. They even said that pretty much. They also have proof that they played the game, and that was at a demo station so it wasn't some toaster piece of crap either.

I like those wrench moves a lot lol.

Reminds me of Bioshock.

A lot of this game reminds me of Bioshock. I like the feel of the station as you're walking around. Hope it keeps the tone up for the duration.

Sure, I'm just saying don't take one reddit post as gospel which a lot of people seem to be doing. But, it's the same mindset with most big releases so I guess it's not just a Prey thing.

All we can do is hope, right?

I'll be getting it on PC so I really hope it's decent.

With the exception of Dishonored (2012), all of Arkane's games have had terrible PC launches. Their creative director recently reminisced about Arx Fatalis being "full of bugs." If you listen to the CGW/GFW Radio episode on Dark Messiah from way back in 2006, Jeff Green and Shawn Elliott (now a level designer at Arkane) really go to town on the game's poor performance. Months from release, and Dishonored 2 still runs like a fat man running up a hill for a lot of people.

Yeah, at this point, I really wish Arkane just stuck to the Unreal engine.
