Prey Demo: Opening Hour Thread: Everything is Going to Be OK

ItsTheNew

I believe any game made before 1997 is "essentially cave man art."
Played a little more. The music seems really overbearing, and the wrench combined with tiny enemies is really annoying considering slow your character spins around. However the premise and the environment seem pretty cool. I personally hate audiolog / emails as story devices but hopefully guns are plentiful and the input lag reduced.

So another interesting game potentially ruined by performance issues? Shame.

I don't think it runs bad, didn't notice any dips. Just has slight input lag, so when you're swinging a wrench around a small enemy that's skittering along the ground it takes more effort than it should.

have you experienced the pixelated graphics where u can literately count the pixels ? (PS4)

I'm running on PS4 pro so aside from some low quality textures here and there, and reflective surfaces not looking great (specifically the mirror in the bathroom) I Havent came across any other oddities.

What is this, exactly? Just a case of dynamic resolution gone screwy, or are you talking about LOD texture loading (where all the textures appear extremely low resolution)

i am not sure how to explain it,i just removed the game can't take a picture, but in some situations for example i think i saw it more when like when i am in motion u can see like pixely graphics around the part of his arm for few quick seconds its like its blurry.Dunno what is called and if anyone saw that or im just trippin lol.I dont think its unloaded textures.I think ive seen this same shit happening in fo4

I think i found fallout 4 example of it:

Tech wise it's pretty weird. Input lag, long loads and low graphic quality even on PS4 Pro. Some effects look much poorer than I expected.

Fighting with the wrench isn't exactly satisfying, generally the only way you know an enemy around is the music changes. I didn't enjoy combat in this limited portion anyway.

The setting is still interesting but the opening hour doesn't sell it very well. I don't know, hopefully people with full playthroughs report an interesting story.

I suppose I shouldn't be so surprised it feels so much like Bioshock but it does. Not System Shock 2 mind you but Bioshock 1. It feels exactly like playing Bioshock 1 so far but without access to any crazy powers (yet I suppose).

Which isn't really what I wanted from this. We'll see from reviews I guess but I'm more tepid now than before I played the demo

Edit: The music is really weird, sometimes there's nothing happening and the music is just nuts. You're in an empty room but it acts like your fighting a demon horde in Doom. Worse though, there's little atmosphere outside the music. It makes exploration feel really dull. I was hoping for more of a tense mystery feel I guess but it's not there in the demo at least

You've summed up my experience pretty well hah

Douchebag. Yes, me.
Yeah the music code really needs to be looked at. The music was going fucking crazy while I was just walking around with no enemies.

Yo Arkane, you need to chill with the music insertions bruh.

This shit just went HAM with me for no fucking reason lol, its really annoying

EDIT: and then I went through a whole enemy encounter withouth any music to then having some pretty heavy shit play after I killed a mimic lol

Anyone else find foot steps really Loud too, specifically on carpet?

The sound in general seems messed up to me. The overbearing music, the odd sound cuts when you go from room to room and the footsteps you mentioned.

I'm intrigued by the story but pretty much everything other than that seems mediocre.

Oh and that lag.

Played demo both on PS4 Pro and Xbox One.

PS4 version has lag, but it's not extreme, you'll possibly get used to it so the demo is worth a try even if you can't test it elsewhere. Xbox One version has no lag, but a few performance issues here and there. Not sure if the same performance issues are on PS4 standard, though.

Also, I found a well hidden spot with some extra neuromods if people want to experiment:
Security station on the first floor of the lobby - you get in by crawling on some pipes in the lower left area - jammed between the left side of Elias Black's desk and the wall is a briefcase with four mods.

no framerate drops on the standard ps4 but i actually had way more fun with the xbox one demo because it's input lag free.

I'm actually trying to get a technical explanation... more than just "we fixed it".

BTW, demo should be out at midnight ET in North America.

To get a little more technical on the update:

To address input lag, the fix within the final release in the game changes the raw input curve on the PS4 controller to be more responsive at the low end, and to tweak responsiveness to the center point on the controller (narrowing the dead zone.). The net result is faster/more responsive movement.

Do you know if/when we're going to get some PC info?

Protip: Use the GLOO Cannon as you get it. It's a very handy tool.

And thanks for the explanation, gstaff. Good to know the input lag issue will be addressed in the final game.

I would like to play the demo on XB1, bur I don't have one lol

Jesus, I haven't beat this Demo yet but damn, I'm in love.

I loved the first Prey and of course I loved Bioshock, Deus Ex and System Shock so this game to me is exactly what I need.

Yikes, I had high hopes for this game, but the general demo impressions seem negative. When is the review up? Any embargos?

Is there an actual ending to the demo? I got to a door that says "unplayable in Prey demo" or something similar, and that's my quest objective.

Not really no. It's pretty open ended. You'll get the last objective but you can still roam around.

So far my only problem is the fact that the Danger/Battle music is so fucking loud.

I like the music, but when I'm trying to listen for that little jitter sound of a Mimic, It's hard to concentrate. Even when lowering the volume it comes to the point where It's basically silence. I just wish the music would fade a little quicker and not a whole minute after you've killed something,

Found another batch of neuromods, this time not so well hidden:
In Yuri Kimura's office, Sales Division on Level 3

And yeah, the battle music is really annoying, especially since it doesn't stop once you've killed the last enemy nearby. It should stop it once you're not in active combat anymore - once no mimics are actively chasing you.

Yeah, absolute radio silence. Sure bodes well.

And the lack of responses is a bit worrying too. Well, unless there isn't anything to publicly say yet. Or maybe we're getting a info dump next week.

I hope we get something before release though.

Interesting, thanks!

Is it possible to implement this with Dishonored 2 on Consoles? It has that same problem with the aiming that makes it very sluggish.

Kind of insane to put out a demo that's a bad first impression/not representative of the final product on PS4

Was going to hold off for story reasons but certainly won't bother checking out mechanics

Impressions here are reading like it's rough overall which is a bit disheartening. Still, nothing else is going to fill that Bioshock itch so I'll take what I can
