New Final Fantasy XV update April 27- Pro features, new weapons, hunt ranking systems

Yeah, from what I can tell: steady mode seems to be the old light mode. They just put the cap in place again. The other modes remain untouched.

But I hope DF can confirm that. Honestly, I did not expect anything. But atleast they fixed their own mistake removing the cap from the lite mode weeks ago.

So if you liked the old lite mode, go for steady now and atleast the majority of gameplay has no framepacing issues anymore. And even this mode is not flawless. Frame pacing issues still occur, just way less in comparison.
Lite mode was more than enough for a frame pacing sensitive guy like Dark10x to play through the game without major issues. So yeh, it was the ideal choice for those who hate frame pacing and better than something like Dark Souls/Bloodborne frame pacing.

Why is it possible to have a 1800p mode, including better texture filtering, higher resolution shadows and better LOD in 30fps (albeit with framepacing issues) but not have a 1080p mode with better texture filtering, higher res shadows and improved LOD in 30fps?
This third "Steady Mode" could easily have a few graphical improvements, but it's basically justs the standard PS4 mode.

I know. But he also showed that this mode is not free of issues. Just the best choice for Playstation users sensitive to it. Only the XO version has now frame pacing issues at all.

Disclaimer: I am not very sensitive to framepacing.

As of patch 1.09 on Pro - It's now locked at 30fps, and the framepacing seems a lot better to my eyes (even in comparison to the initial release, which already had the 30fps lock). There's still something going on with dropped frames, but this is as smooth as it's ever been. The resolution seems to be the same as High, but I can't confirm this.

oh.... oh my! :D

Basically steady mode is 1080p old lite mode that was locked to 30 fps, it's the exact same thing no improvements to filtering, resolution etc. High mode still suffers from bad framepacing and the new lite mode is just a mess of framepacing and uneven fps. Yuch waited for 5 months for them to fix the framepacing of the high mode..

Yes, totally agreed here. That is the main issue I have with SE's approach to the graphics modes.

While I think it's cool that SE continues to make improvements to FFXV, I've already beaten it on PS4. If I ever play it again, it'll be on PC....so hurry up and officially announce the port. This aint port begging, they've literally shown brand new footage of the game running on the PC in the past two months. I got a 1080ti, I'm sure it'll do wonders with this game.

Stable mode is just what they had before?

I'm confused on why they need so many options. The broken modes need to be stripped out.

Regardless, it looks like I really should wait for the PC version if I ever play this. I don't like this precedent for a mainline Final Fantasy game...

Looks like framepacing is gone

Yeah but that's steady mode running in 1080p. There was no frame pacing before they pushed the uncapped frame rate patch in lite more already.

Steady mode is just a toggle to run lite mode without the uncapped frame rate.

Would have loved if they did some actual work on the HQ mode along with it.

im glad im not one of you because i will hate you guys forever if i magically start perceiving frame pacing and screen tearing.

As someone who remembers the exact moment when I really noticed this stuff I can say that once you see it you can't unsee it. After getting the console version of RE5 I eventually got the PC version when it launched (it was actually one of the first games I got for my first gaming PC... I know I know). I mostly got the PC version because of No Mercy mode and I played the console version with friends online. The first time I played the console version after a significant session with the PC version permanently opened my eyes to things like screen tearing and whatnot. Having said that, I can deal with bad frame pacing and variable (or low) frame rates but screen tearing is just gross. I'll take a input lag hit before I ever just accept screen tearing.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing about what this patch does. I think I was one of many people who bought this game early on, got side tracked by other games coming out and then pumped the brakes on returning to this game when they detailed their crazy patch and dlc plans. I really enjoyed what I played of this game so I'm looking forward to when they finish this all up.

So you can only get 50 "quest points" until May 8th, and the quest was... catching a fish?

When they said check out the AfroSword available now, they meant in 20 weeks if you don't spend any QP, right?

It's 50QP per hour...
Still, 20 hours for a sword in a game I already finished is not worth it.

I can never detect framepacing and all of that stuff unless it's clearly in your face and half my screen is static or something. Heck I couldn't even detect stuff like say the 59 FPS problem in Mario Kart 8.

I really don't know why though. So all this talk you guys are having about frame and FPS, I'm just assuming you guys know what you're talking about and I'll occasionally chime in with a useless remark.

I'm glad for the rest of the update though. I guess I'm also kind of happy that I can't detect that issue otherwise I'd pull my hair out and go crazy.

Well the thing is, frame pacing issues are pretty much indistinguishable from a drop in FPS to me. It looks the same, it affects the game the same. I always thought Bloodborne just struggled with its visuals at certain points. People here identify it as framepacing, but that's just another name for the same phenemonon.

I will never be on the lookout for screen tearing though.

They added some new music while fishing

This is probably only because the Timed Quest at the time of the patch dropping was a fishing quest.

i think there's a whole new system for timed quests now. Complete with menu music and everything.

Nobody seems to have mentioned it? I remember the Timed Quest option just giving you a map point to go to.

Its this whole marketplace thing now.. you earn points to redeem rewards instead of simply killing whatever monsters and getting the rewards like before. Seems like it may take much longer to earn say 999AP depending on how many points they decide to give you for whatever active quest.

I tried it an hour later and it says the next round is on May 1st at 22:00 and the event itself ends on May 8th.

Haven't gotten another 50 QP, dunno what the deal is.

Dude, out of curiosity, why are you still playing this?^^ Seems masochistic in your case. Not even I cared enough anymore to check out any of the timed quests yet. Also I'm too lazy to put its disc back in, lol.

Well, it makes more sense in the long run.

It gives more avenues for lower-level players to actually use the system, and it gives you more to do then just one fight for one reward every few weeks. But I really wish they would use the system to just include multiple superbosses to challenge at a time.

It's almost like the FATE system in XIV, except if there was only ever 1 fate on the world map at any given time, and it could only be completed once. What they're doing is good for replayability, but it's currently just a bit too limited.

The good news though is that the system is evolving. They're slowly putting more into the online capabilities as they go, and it's getting more intricate. What would be really cool is if they implement some kind of scoring system on superbosses that you can rechallenge and time-attack against other players. That would actually give a reason for challenging bosses after you already beat them.

they need to put some of the rare items in there as a reward.. like magitek core.

I can't complete the quest a better drillbreaker because I dont have it, and this other one because I stupidly sold the weapon...there should be some kind of warning against selling quest items >_<

I can't believe that they never even after all these patches correct the only gameplay element that make in my opinion this game so weak, spamming.... freaking potion to heal when knockout and no cool down on item.... Everything else seem to be balance that way on normal, help my partners when he is on way of dying, spam potion. Why you near him and press o, because use potion... why not ? You can easy get 198 normal potion, so that mean you survive to 198 hit + add elixir, phoenix down , megalexir etc etc...

Make the timed quest enemies and new super bosses as hard as you like, this feature... make the game a cakewalk and not fun to play.

Boredom. A love hate relationship with Square Enix and an interest in iterative software development. A fascination with UI design.

I'll always check out each patch in the off chance I'll be surprised by something they do right.

The timed quest UI is a total mess - certain prompts lead you through half a dozen sentence-long pop-ups (this is a problem elsewhere in the game too, like the gear screen "guide" button), there are two QP redemption menus that are basically the same thing which makes it super redundant, and there are multiple places to get information on what the current deadlines are. And as you can see from above, apparently it's active every hour for some people and not others.
In addition, it often fails to upload your score to the server and then spams you with like 7 messages telling you it failed to upload to the server.

I actually agree with you.

I have like 20+ Megalixirs and Mega Phoenix's at the moment. Aside from me having most of the best gear from all the dungeons, I don't have any fear of actually dying.

A "Hard Mode" on XV doesn't even really need enemy scaling. Just severely restrict restorative items. Like x9 for the regulars, x5 for the -Hi's and and x3 for the Mega's. But in the meantime, you can just sell all your stuff and artificially restrict your restoratives for the same effect.

Not being able to infinitely recover from everything forces you to actually develop strategies around the enemies you fight, gear correctly, and even use things like Healcast and Curse magic that was a bit redundant before.

Mh, gotcha! Actually stuff like that is interesting to me too. When I play games/use apps I always think about how you could improve the UI. Maybe I'll check it out tonight.

And wait, is that fishing music only for a specific timed quest or all the time now??? If it's the latter, then hoooly shit, would that be stupid :D

Curious to see what's available in the quest marketplace.

Basically it looks like an overall QP store exists that is independent of the timed events. The Afro jack sword is there for 1k. This probably means no one will ever lose the ability to earn a hunt exclusive item because they were not able to play during that time. There is also a specific one for the current timed event . You earn a point for each time you complete the weekly timed hunt event and the more points you have, the higher your ranking. Higher ranking = more QP per hour or day. You receive more QP for the timed event portion than the overall one so it is beneficial to aim for the hunt exclusive items with this amount.

It seems like it's designed to ensure everyone will be able to get any hunt rewards eventually. If you spam the weekly timed event, it will go faster. Plus you can spend your weekly hunt QPs on the item you want and use the other global QP for other things that you need (AP, Gil, exp. or the mega magic statue).

It's actually a pretty solid system. They just need to get the clunkiness out of the UI.

Hopefully future timed quests give out much bigger QP rewards, then. And hopefully they'll get to the point where there are multiple concurrent timed quests instead of just one at a time.

Adding superweapons and super-accessories above the vanilla game's top tier would be excellent, but I think earning those things should be a challenge instead of a long grind.

Anyone having problems on downloading the patch? It takes a lot of time on "preparing for download" and after that it fails to download.

I just downloaded Yakuza 0, so the hdd has no problem, around 400 gb of free space.

can anyone confirm if the timed hunts switch every hour? And if so are the mostly things like fishing or something else?
