I never saw 2 or 3.

I really thought the first one was so great in its time. They really nailed it.

Should i watch the others?

Definitely watch 2. It is very good. You can watch 3 later, knowing it is a farce. if you watch it with the knowledge that Raimi was forced to add Venom etc, the craziness in it as a fuck you to the studio is great. But as a film itself, it is nowhere near the others in quality.

2 is The Greatest Comic Book Film of All Time.

3 is divisive, so I'd give it a chance just to see where you fall with it.

Its a shame that things didn't work out with the studio.

Its not like he could've not brought Venom back. There's no eternal lasting death in comic books and by extension no true death in comic book movies. I only mention that because some people were angry that they "killed off" Venom. Yea right.

What the hell man WATCH 2

If you think of 3 as some alternate-universe farce, it's highly entertaining. It was a soul crushing disappointment coming off the first two though

And yet it's still leagues ahead of the reboots.

I'd love a Lauzirika documentary all about how this movie fell the fuck apart, scraped itself together, fell apart again, and kinda shoved itself at the screen at the last second.

Wait, is that what happened? That'd explain a lot.

I'd love to read some info on that if it's around the internet somewhere.

I'd also like to argue Chipman's point that J. Jonah Jameson as played by JK Simmons is the best possible page-to-screen translation of a character.

Shelley Duvall as Olive Oyl beats it.

Hopefully they added more deus ex machina moments. The theatrical cut didn't have enough.

Think it has something to do with the fact that Alvin Sargent was the sole screenwriter for SM2, and then you have Sam & Ivan Raimi AND Alvin Sargent writing SM3? Also add-in the fact that Avi Arad was basically leaning over Raimi's shoulder saying "You gonna put Venom in? You should put Venom in. I know you don't like Venom but everyone else does. Just think about it...no but seriously, you're putting Venom in."

Too many cooks in the kitchen.

Or just one bad cook that was in charge of all of the other ones.

Disappointing movie after how good the first 2 are but all the comedy scenes in here are still excellent. Its everything else that was a let down. But the comedic through-line of raimis spiderman trilogy remained top tier

Bernard is the WOAT Butler btw lol. Imagine if he was Bruce Waynes Butler in the dark knight. Dude definitely would not have burnt that letter from Rachel at the end.

Bernard is definitely the WOAT, but given Alfred's total 180 in TDKR, I wouldn't cut him so much slack.

In TDK, Bruce is fucking beaten down emotionally and just wants to give it all up. It's not worth it anymore. But no, Alfred burns the letter, and convinces Bruce 'THAT'S THE POINT OF BATMAN, IT'S WOT WE STAND FOR, NOW PICK YASELF UP, THIS IS WOT RACHEL WOOD'AV WANTED'

Cut to TDKR: Bruce is all about picking up Batman, and Alfred reveals exactly what Rachel said and is now all ' RACHEL WOULDN'T 'AV WANTED THIS, I NEVAH WANTED THIS FER YOU, I JUST WANTED YOU TO 'AV A NORMAL LIFE FULL 'O CAFES AND NODS AND CHEAP SET UPS AND PAY OFFS!'

God, TDKR is such a piece of shit.

Topher Grace as Venom was probably my favorite part of Spider-Man 3. Sandman has a great CGI birth scene, which Eddie Brock's Venom does too, and then a bunch of awful weird plot stuff
tying him in as Uncle Ben's true killer
.

I don't understand why people want Venom as the one removed. Sam Raimi was wrong. What is a Spider-Man/Sandman movie even about, if you remove that dumb plot twist? Bah.

Don't forget the Harry Osborne amnesia subplot that was totally necessary.

I didn't hate it. Might have worked without the Sandman minutes wasted.

That said, I had totally and completely forgotten it, so yeah maybe not so necessary after all. Goblin Jr I was down for, but I wanted the Hobgoblin outfit, not so much snowboard goblin.

I think what would have helped that movie the most is if they marketed it as a Green Goblin/Sandman movie then ended it with Brock getting the suit, setting up the next movie to be Venom.

You wouldn't need to change much about the plot. Have Peter go through his arc with the black suit (my favorite part of the movie), deal with Harry and Sandman then close with the Symbiote finding Brock.

Marketing it as a Venom movie is the worst thing they could have done for it.

I blame Bobby for putting the idea in my head of Charlie de Lauzirika making a documentary about the problems with the film. I now want that so bad.

And to hope in ten years or so he makes a post mortem of the issues DC has had with launching a connected cinematic universe.

I remember this movie as being the thing that open my eyes to GAF having a defense force for anything. Their was a poster on here who insisted it was a great, misunderstood, work of art.

I hope it's just 30 minutes of extra emo Peter scenes
I hope its just 30 minutes of James Franco meeting with contractors, haggling over the price, watching them build a trap door in the diner, setting up the electrics that will trigger it, and then we see a flashback of him dropping down into it and being really pleased with himself.

I'm not sure how well 2 holds up but at the time it was the GOAT, so it's well worth a watch. 3 is basically an unfocused mess, probably again worth the watch just to see how it eds on such a bad note.

And then he finishes that delicious pie

3 is not "divisive".

It's awful. Now if you enjoy "so bad it's good" movies, then it's a great experience, but that doesn't magically make up for the film's quality.

At the time 2 was highly, highly regarded. Most loved it, myself included. Been curious to revisit it myself but I don't expect it to have aged well. Solid cheeky entertainment and a great follow-up to the first all the same.

3 is definitely worth a watch, it has a lot of problems(prime example of insane studio/creative interference), so expect as much going in. The movie has survived so long off gifs for good reason though, especially on GAF. Expectations in 2007 were insane for this film(it was the BvS of that era), which led to extreme backlash. Never felt it reached near the depths of real comic movie trash though. There is entertainment to be had both ironically and unironically.

I don't know maybe if Sandman maimed Aunt May or something to activate the rage, that would work. I really didn't like the
Uncle Ben
revision.

8 years passed. Bruce is gassed and walking around with a cane. People can change their mind.

Man, I was stoked when I was able to get Spiderman 2 on PSP for free at launch by just submitting a form in the post. Jesus Spiderman 3 was such a nightmare lmao.

Back in 2007 I didn't think it was that bad, I watched the trilogy again recently and S3 is legitimately terrible. Tbh I realised I don't like the first two anymore either, probably the most irritating cast I have ever seen. Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield and even Sally Field were massive upgrades.

Why was every character in the film at Harry's funeral? Most of them didn't even know him. His explosive amnesia was hilarious.

"This is your uncle's ACTUAL killer."

I still can't believe that's a line they used to retcon the Uncle Ben stuff from the first one. Like, jesus, how lazy do you have to be?

Also, Thomas Hayden Church was fucking awful in this movie.

Nope. This is all fake news.

Like I said, I used to love them but they did not age well. Perhaps watching them back to back wasn't the greatest idea. By the end of the second one I was praying MJ would die even though I knew she didn't.

Also, at the end of the train scene after Spiderman is unmasked, someone shouts out in surprise 'He's just a kid'. Even though it was clearly a man in his 30's. Very strange.

Dunno why the title was edited earlier, but it's definitely not a "typo" of any sort. The Amazon Japan listing is very detailed and specifically says Spider-man 3.1 is a new edit supervised by Sam Raimi himself. It's the headliner for the special features on disc 4. Mentioned multiple times in the listing and has a runtime. How do you typo that?

This seems less of a director's cut and more of a Hey Here's Some Scenes We've Added While Sam Raimi Was In The Room Edition. But I'd be interested in a side-by-side comparison of the two.

Will be interesting to see the tweaks. I think the core of the movie is too rotten to really be fixed, but it could definitely be made more watchable.

I've been meaning to pick up the Raimi trilogy on Blu-ray anyways so, good timing!

To be fair they might have got that just by tightening up the editing on some of the action scenes and jokes rather than cutting a tonne of content.

Sure, I'm just pointing out that it's not a case of them just adding more scenes on top of the existing cut, because that would result in a longer runtime.

Of all films I can think of that could use an extended cut, this is not one of them. Still pretty cool though, 'new' footage of older films is something I always love.
