Now what's the next step in your master plan?
From the same folks who brought us this beautiful and impossible to find poster:

MondoTees: THE THING: INFECTION AT OUTPOST 31 Board Game

"Mondo brought more than their storied design acumen to the table," said Joe Van Wetering, Creative Design and Game Development at Project Raygun. "Thanks to their deep understanding and reverence for THE THING, they helped define the tone and shape the game play itself. INFECTION AT OUTPOST 31 reflects a true collaboration between our two brands resulting in a game that will excite table top and film aficionados alike."

The regular version of the game features artwork and designs by Justin Erickson of Phantom City Creative. The Mondo exclusive version, sold exclusively through MondoTees.com, is limited to 1,982 copies, and features different packaging artwork by Jock. The limited edition game will also come with a Mondo print, enamel pin and two additional sculpted movers: the Norwegian character and the Palmer Thing.

So they're expanding past movie posters, tee shirts, and vinyl into boardgames. I'm hoping this is game is as fun to play with others as the movie was paranoia inducing. Mondo's got a pretty good track record. Hopefully I can actually catch one of the limited edition versions before they're sold out in about 6 seconds.

Keep hitting F5 to refresh if old.

Edit:
New poster to go along with the game release from Mondo:

This looks really cool. I'm imagining drawing one of the blood sample cards and being relieved to say I'm human lmao

Saw it in person at the NY Toy Fair this year. Its a social deduction game that seems unique. I intend to try it out sometime in the future.

Game is being made by USAopoly so take that for what it's worth. It is from their new line of "designer" games though. Yet I'm wary of anything like this that doesn't list a designer(s).

I'm curious if they'll do something similar to Ultimate Werewolf/One Night Ultimate Werewolf.

Where essentially you have a group of people and through a game of establishing who is who with abilities, you try to pinpoint who among you is the werewolf.

If it's not this, missed opportunity

Hmmm, I'm hesitant. A lot of these designer board games are a crap shoot in terms of quality (fun, not build quality) so I generally wait on reviews first. But since this is a Mondo release it'll likely sell out well before any reviews surface.

I dunno. Guess it comes down to pricing if I'll jump on it early.

Most of these movie to board game games tend to have fairly weak rules (good example is the Ghostbusters board game).

I hope this is of a better caliber.

I actually have the unofficial print and play version from a few years back, and yeah The Thing is a complete fit for hidden identity stuff - best analogy for the PnP version is Panic Station, but definitely interested in an official game so will be looking out for it. Already liking that it has the layout of the base, as the physical isolation of characters during the film was a good part of what helped make the suspicion greater, and that's missing in the PnP version.

I've had a lot of fun with Panic Station. It does the paranoia thing pretty well, making players accusing each other of being infected and not trusting each other (or trusting the wrong person, whoops!)

I'm surprised they never did a sequel to The Thing called... The Things. lol. We got Aliens, Predators, but never a good follow-up for The Thing (though it is a perfect horror film and I don't want a sequel to ruin that). But there's a lot of potential there.

The prequel was eh.

Go to handle a copy. The figs are nice and the instruction book is well done. Not quite Fantasy Flight level, but it works.

Should be coming out in October. Pretty wide release.

Designer board games are the "good" board games when it comes down to designer games versus mass market games. Unless "designer board game" is no longer used synonymously with modern board games or hobby games anymore. I wouldn't say that a lot of designer games are a crap shoot in terms of quality. I own hundreds of modern games and I like every single one of the ones in my collection that I've been able to play.
