Forza Horizon 3 PC Performance Thread

Adding even lower minimum specs in a patch like this is an excellent move, and definitely appreciated.

I'm hoping the multi-threading and CPU optimizations take care of the micro-stutter I run into in the downtown area. My build shouldn't have seen any issues in the first place, and it ran so well elsewhere, it was as confusing as it was annoying.

Patch notes sound promising, gonna have to download and try out the new hotwheels expansion tonight.

I had given up trying for a solid 60fps before and just opted for 4k DSR ultra at 30fps, maybe now I can do 60 at 1440p /shrug

Welp, my game seems to have disappeared entirely. Anyone else?

Ok so not just me, but I think my game deleted itself.

Can you still play the game though? My shortcuts still work fine, it just doesn't show up in my Library. It's updating for me now too so it doesn't seem to be affecting its functionality, it's just weird that it's hidden.

It's weird. I could play the game from a desktop shortcut but when I went to download the patch it looked like it was redownloading the whole game :/

I had to go back to work (walking now) but I'll report back afterward.

Um.. I don't want to overreact.. but it seems pretty fuckin' good? I booted it up just before installing the patch, all max settings 1440p, hovering around 68-72fps. Booted it up post patch and it's hovering around 100fps and that's with the the new higher detail settings pushed up to Ultra too.

That's just in terms of reducing the CPU bottlenecking (GPU usage at 99%), dunno about consistency of performance yet, but great first impressions. Seeing even and high CPU usage a cross cores too.

Oh man, this has me very excited.

holy shit, i need more reports, this would be game changing

What's your configuration? I'm hoping my i7 5820K's 12 threads will be utilized. Then my 1080ti should be able to stretch it's legs in this game.

Locked 60fps in Surfer's Paradise, including the tram area. No stutter, no drops whatsoever, getting 70-90fps in the city and 90-100 in the rainforest, 100-110 in the outback. i7 4790K 4.4GHz, 16GB DDR3 1600 and GTX1080.

I just fast traveled to surfers paradise, the performance still isn't perfect, it still clearly struggles a lot more than other areas - you can quite easily notice the uneven performance and it can dip worryingly close to 60 with GPU usage dropping sharply, but it's significantly better either way.

I'm on a 1080Ti, 4770k @ 4.5Ghz btw.

Again, very early reports with very limited testing.

Game keeps crashing when attempting to load after choosing 'Continue' from the main menu. Cannot play :(

Anyone else on AMD having issues?

I'm a try and roll back my drivers, reset the UWP app, etc.

Anyone here with a gtx 970 or lower post impressions? Your game performing well at 1080ti means jack to me, I wanna know if this game I bought a god damn year ago will finally run on my system. Really wish they had refunds back then.

Same exact problem for me. FX 6300 and GTX 1060 here.

IT'S HAPPENING. I have the same setup as you but with a 6700k @ 4.6GHz

I tried about an hour ago but I dont think the new update was there because I didn't see any new options in the settings. I did download the new Hot Wheels but can't figure out how to find it on the map? Going to try again now.

edit, nm

Went to the official store and now it's downloading 3.41GB and the Hot Wheel was just under 3GB I believe.

Downloading now. Playing on a MSI GS63VR Stealth laptop, i7-6700HQ, GTX 1060 6GB (clocked down just a bit for mobile) and 16 GB DDR4 RAM, though I don't know the clock speed of the RAM.

I last tried to play in February and with the updates available at the time, was able to get the game running pretty smooth in 30FPS locked mode but with some noticeable stutters and what seemed like framepacing issues.

Kind of hoping I can at least get 60fps running now, but kinda not holding my breath -- aiming to ultimately play at 30FPS without any of those stutter/framepace issues.

Like many other users, this is the last chance I give this game on PC. If it doesn't work, then I'm out until the next Horizon game and I'll buy it for Xbox. :/

Just drove through Surfer's Paradise with the framerate unlocked, every setting maxed out and 4xMSAA at 1080p.

I went through at high speed (to hammer the memory) in the rain (GPU/CPU probably). It never dropped below 60 which is entirely unheard of. It was as high at 90 in some parts, I think this finally might be THE patch.

Locked my FPS to 72 (the option it gives because my monitor is 144hz), Surfers Paradise feels a lot more consistent than before when I had it unlocked. May keep it at this.

Forza 6: Apex has some troubles at very high framerates (perf inconsistency), possibly a similar case here. More testing needs to be done though.

Regardless: Absolutely delighted with this patch. Good stuff.

For others wondering if you should buy: Does anyone know if the demo gets the latest patches? Could be worth trying that if so.

If its good its not only good for Horizon. But for Forza 7 etc also and the future. If they finally got the engine to work better for pc's.

Resetting the UWP app fixed the crashing me.

I'm going to roll back my driver anyhow, as Radeon 17.5.1 still suffers from massive loading times. 10+ minutes.

Edit: Start > Settings > Apps > Forza Horizon 3 > Advanced options > Reset.

It's great for this game too, because it's an excellent game that so many people didn't try due to performance issues.

What resolution are you running at? I'm on a 1080, 6700k @ stock with every setting maxed (including 8x msaa) at 1920x1200 and getting 90-110 fps just driving around surfers paradise (so far just day time free roaming). Feels much smoother now and so far no noticeable stutter.
