I can see Game Freak having another go at Gen 1...and 2, and 3, so eventually every Gen in the series will be available in HD. Makes sense to me, a way to future proof 'em if you will while also giving the originals new life via the VC and Pokémon Bank compatibility.

How long before this happens, considering Diamond and Pearl is very likely coming up next, that I have no idea.

I could see them rebooting Red / Blue, especially with that 20th-anniversary movie being a retelling of the original Indigo League story.

Have we gotten any hints or throwbacks at d/p remakes yet, just curious.

When do you reckon Diamond/Pearl remakes will follow?

I'm going with

2017 Pokemon Stars
2019 Pokemon 8th gen
2020 Diamond/Pearl remakes

I believe they want diamond/pearl remakes to use the same engine ground up developed for 8th gen.

Nah, they'd probably release them before Gen 8. Stars, DP remake, then Gen 8.

Difference is that Stars would be in the Pokémon generation of Sun & Moon and is an offshoot of those games, not a new Pokémon generation.

I know how it works.

New Pokémon sell games.

PLUS, when you first played the original games, you didn't know the types or what they did or what the mechanics were back then either.

Yeah, but you only had 151 pokemon to learn. Now there are hundreds more and many new mechanics layered on top of that. The original game struck a good balance between complexity and simplicity and I think they have lost that over time. For someone who just wants to jump in it is overwhelming.

It's like if you played Street Fighter 2 back in the day, then played Street Fighter 6 and there were a hundred different fighters, it would be too overwhelming for a new person.

They make Pokemon games for people who buy Pokemon games every year, not lapsed Pokemon players. I'm sure for longtime fans it is great, but it is pretty unwelcoming from where I'm standing.

Slightly intriguing that the controversial companions of this summer's Movie both have gen 4 Pokémon.

Hmm interesting... wasn't there less 4th gen Pokemon in Sun and Moon, same thing happened back in X/Y, there weren't many 3rd gen pokemon and ORAS followed, do we see a similar pattern here.

The recent Pokemon games don't throw the entire Pokedex at you. Sun/Moon had I think maybe 300 and you have to actually go out of your way to encounter a hefty chunk of them. There's a strong emphasis on older ones too and the new mechanics aren't really that intense. Aside from Z-moves which are pretty straightforward, all of them can be safely ignored.

Slightly intriguing that the controversial companions of this summer's Movie both have gen 4 Pokémon.

Yeah there's quite a few hints.

The partner Pokemon in the upcoming movie
Gen 4 having very little representation in the Alola dex
The Munchlax giveaway when the games first came out, similar to X and Y's Torchic
Silvally's RKS System
The references to Giratina, Palkia, and Bronzong in the Dimensional Research Lab
The Sinnoh starters getting some attention on recent promotional images/videos

... and I'm sure there's more. Sinnoh is my favorite region so it's what I'm hoping for the most, but if I was a betting man I'd put money on a SM third game/sequel for the next game. Hopefully they'll come before gen 8 though. I need to listen to that chill D/P/Pt soundtrack in remixed glory.

If they do a remake then they better not ignore Platinum like they did with Emerald. Platinum is a huge upgrade over Diamond/Pearl in practically every way imaginable.

2017: Diamond & Pearl Remakes (3DS)
2018: *Year break which usually happens once a gen.*
2019: Gen VIII (NS)
2020: Red/Blue 2/Remakes or Black & White Remakes (NS)
*Year break could happen in 2017 with D/P remakes in 2018 instead. But with N2DSXL I expect Pokemon this year. And not new exclusive because of "bad framerate". >_>

I do not expect Stars to be real no matter how reliable Eurogamer is. It makes no sense. GF has moved away from third versions for the past two gens, it would be too soon after Sun/Moon for a third version since when they did do third versions there is usually a year break (Platinum) or a remake in between. (Emerald) GF never move on this early, and while I'm no expert on companies or anything, considering how they release games I just don't see GF releasing a Pokemon game on a $300 system. They'll wait until it comes down in price.

Not sure I see the point of releasing D/P remakes on hardware that can natively play the original D/P. Each remake thus far has been released on hardware that is not backwards compatible with the hardware that played the original game (edit: I stand corrected, of course the GBA had FR/LG and could play R/B/Y via backwards compatibility; but that's a special situation due to the compatibility break within the games between Gen II/III).

I would generally lean towards Stars being an enhanced version of Sun/Moon for New Nintendo 2DS/3DS and Nintendo Switch, but one thing keeps lingering: Sun/Moon were directed by Ohmori, who leads GameFreak's "B-team" (the team that did OR/AS) right? That leaves me wondering what Masuda's "A-team" (X/Y, B/W, etc.) has been working on; to my knowledge, their last project was X/Y in 2013, nearly 4 years ago. Certainly would seem like a waste to have them working on a third version of Sun/Moon.

While this has evolved into a Pokémon Stars thread for whatever reason, I'm still convinced something is happening soon because of that Mario & Luigi Superstasaga eShop allocation...

We're so damn close to E3 at this point. I brought this point up to calm myself and others down but when I say it out loud... I'm super excited now! What is it, 3 weeks?

I'll take anything at this point but I'll definitely take news about a new Pokemon game. I got tired of Moon and dropped it half way through and I need whatever's next. I've been checking here all day long waiting and hoping and I don't think I can stop! My hype levels are off the charts.
