Speculation: Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy is 1yr Console Exclusive (PS4)

At the very least, that would have been very, very expensive. Acti isn't a publisher that gives up full control over its products, and for good reason -- it's acutely aware that a bigger audience is more valuable than a bag of cash.
At the same time, these particular games are not exactly 100% Activision's products. One would imagine this would give Sony some advantages in these negotiations that they could potentially leverage to obtain full exclusive rights.

This is going to end up with Pokemon-like ownership discussion, isn't it?

A year? If true gonna hold off buying it. Perfect fit for the switch so I'll wait and see if it comes out for it. If nit at least it will be cheap on the PS4 by then.

I still hate the ambiguity of these deals. So many mixed messages. Just be straight up honest Sony.

Common sense?

Yeah think we need to see some actual proof of that :/
Well I had a PS1 when I was younger, loved all the Crash Bandicoots. I basically begged my Mum for them at Christmas each time one came out, including CTR.

After the PS1, I had a PS2 and a OG Xbox but mostly played on the Xbox due to Halo and Midtown Madness.

Im not going to buy a PS4 for Crash, but I sure would love to play the remasters.

I mean... common sense would suggest that when any console is as ridiculously dominant as the PS1 was, pretty much any remotely successful future console is likely to have an audience at least partially made up of people that previously owned that console.

But common sense quite clearly isn't Spyder_Monkey's strong point.

Sony owns the source code, yes, but this isn't to be confused with owning the games themselves, which do belong to Acti.

The Pokemon games are co-owned by Nintendo and The Pokemon Company, the latter of which is a joint venture of the three stake holders in the Pokemon IP, itself a group to which Nintendo belongs. Acti and Sony and not so interlinked, or indeed at all, and, again, the latter's legal claim to the original Crash games doesn't extend beyond the source code -- with the exception of CTR, which is the one Crash game it does own.

Both sony and actiblizz have nothing to gain from being honest at this point though, they both want as many people as possible to buy the ps4 version when it releases, if other versions are planned mentioning it now will reduced the number of people buying on ps4

I don't like the ambiguity, either, but it's not up to Sony to be "honest" and announce whether it's coming to non-Sony systems. This is Activision's game.

Sony has confirmed that the game is coming to PS4. That's it. That's all they need to do. Whether or not it ever comes to PC or Xbox One or Switch is irrelevant. Sony's responsibility is to promote the games for their own systems, regardless of whether or not they reach other platforms also.

I realize you're just trolling, but it's pretty silly to think that people couldn't have switched consoles in the last 20 years.

If it is timed exclusive, there would be almost no reason for Activision to not put it out on everything. Besides, it's not like the PS4 and Xbox One architecture is that different that it would be a hassle to port.

I do think it is strange that the exclusivity is unclear on this game, Sony is usually good about being upfront about that sort of thing.

Is it not common sense to think a remake of Playstation exclusive games from a series that has been dormant for years by a company who could not give a shit couldn't have happened without an outside company like Sony? It's like Bayonetta 2 all over again.

That's a different conversation... You were saying its common sense that anyone with nostalgia for PS1 properties doesn't have an Xbox One, which is a ridiculous claim to make.

I don't think anybody who wants PS1-era nostalgia properties owns an Xbox One.

Yeah think we need to see some actual proof of that :/

As to whether Sony was involved with bringing it back, I think they've said as much. I don't think anyone is denying Sony had any involvement with getting Crash to come back, but the extent of their involvement is what remains in question. Not exactly the same thing, but something similar is that Sony is the reason why Elder Scrolls Online is on consoles.

There are arguments for both sides, but I just find it odd that both Sony and Activision have avoided using the word "exclusive." As JaceC has pointed out, Activision is making these from scratch using the originals as a guide. It's Activision's IP, so they're the one that makes the call at the end of the day.

Sony has the advantage of having the largest install base and the brand association of the first three games. Even if were releasing multiplat day 1, I bet they would still get an overwhelming majority of the sales.

Also I think a lot of people are also ignoring that the Crash Edition of Skylander's was PS4 exclusive. I don't know nothing's really adding up to indicate that's it's going multi-plat outside of maybe PC.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe only the bundle was exclusive. I think you can use Crash in the other versions of the game?

No it's exclusive to the PS3/4 versions.

Skylanders Imaginators releases on October 13 for PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U. However, the Crash Bandicoot characters and level are only available on PS4 and PS3.

Interesting. I thought Crash would be available in all versions.
I just checked, Activision's support page says this:
6. Will the Crash Bandicoot and Dr. Neo Cortex figures work on Xbox and Nintendo consoles?
Yes! The Crash Bandicoot and Dr. Neo Cortex figures are not exclusive to PlayStation and can be played on any console.

This isn't worth a thread, and I thought it would be funny in the context of THIS thread, so here goes:

Some PlayStation-branded marketing is going up for Crash around the world and in this particular example, the PlayStation graphics conveniently cover up the Activision logo :V

Thought that was mildly amusing in light of the confusion. Please no one take this seriously :V
