DIsgaea 5 Complete (Switch) Review Thread

I didn't realize the original Disgaea 5 reviewed so well either. I had always assumed the series hung in the mid-70s due to being niche. I've been considering it, but I think I'm definitely going to get it.

Literally Disgae 5 + DLC + portable

So one would expect similar reviews or just a hair better

I can't buy this game.

Fire Emblem Awakenings nearly consumed me.

This one will end me.

I guess the portability factor will play into the increased scores for many. Makes sense though, these kinds of games feel natural on handhelds.

Reading the US Gamer review, and I didn't know that NIS had converted the PS4 trophies to an in-game equivalent for the Switch. That's a nice bonus, but also another reminder that Nintendo is lacking by not having a system-wide trophy/achievement system.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Weird...coming back to the series after spending nearly 200h on Disgaea 1 on PS3. I gave Disgaea 3 a try but kinda hated it...probably just wasnt the right time for me. What i saw from D5 though - this should last me the whole summer tbh lol.

Reviews are coming out a little early, aren't they? The game isn't out until the 23rd.

We've had review code for the game for a week now. And it's Disgaea 5 again. For some reviewers it might be a daunting task, but in my review I just pointed to my old D5 review. Ain't no one got time to re-explain all the Disgaea mechanics to folks.

I also think some folks just either A) don't want to re-review it (see: Destructoid's method) and B) Probably have it as low-priority, as this week also has Fire Emblem Echoes, Farpoint, Injustice 2, and The Surge.

To be clear, the USgamer review is mine.

I've spent a bunch of time with the Switch version and almost none with the PS4 version, but here's my take:

If Disgaea's your jam, Disgaea 5 seems like a pretty good one. These fantastic, fun Tactical RPGs make for great portable experiences, and this one has a great visual style that can really be appreciated on an HDTV. On Switch, Disgaea 5 Complete offers the best for both worlds, and does it incredibly well. You won't go wrong with picking this one up if you're a fan of the series.

Took this picture a few days ago from the Switch version:

I was pretty surprised to see this. When you earn a trophy, it'll pop out in the upper left hand corner.

I liked D5 a lot on PS4. More than I thought I would. The story isn't the greatest or anything but serviceable and definitely better than Disgaea 2's story.

I had a lot of fun using the Imp (a flying unit) and equipping him with the Giant ability and using him to fly over everything and then doing an AoE buttstomp that would beat everyone to death. He ended up being my most useful unit which is strange because he is a generic unit that you can get pretty early on.

I did almost no post-game in D5 so I can't comment on too much of that, but I was doing a fair bit of item world and some other things before I beat the game. It was good fun. The gameplay is great.

I only played a little bit of D1 way back so I'm a bit hazy on details. Do the battles really end up being light, quick affairs? They seemed pretty in depth and packed with all sorts of systems to tackle for the game to feel like a good fit for portable mode as many seem to claim.

(Not that I'm down on the game. Been crazy hyped and thirsty for it since Switche's launch. I just don't see it fitting into the "snappy on the go gaming" scenario.)

for the most part yes, battles shouldnt take more than 10 minutes like they do in final fantasy tactics and fire emblem games

Portability might.
Lol! We might as well review a game by screen size then? The next God of War is a 10/10 with an 80in 4K hdr tv but only an 8/10 on a 20in 1080 monitor.

Anyway I never did pick this game up but glad it's doing well. Will have to get it eventually.

Never played previous games in the series, so how low does a review score need to be before we DDOS their site? :)

Seriously though, having lots of fun with the demo, but as a completionist I'm afraid it will take too much time. How long does it usually take to 100% the game?

Took me 65 hours to get the platinum. That said I didnt beat Bael since it wasnt required for plat and the grinding for that is much more intensive.
