Farpoint/PSVR Aim |OT| Survivors Keep Shooting

yeah. completely don't understand the ars review. Bizarre as fuck. The aim controller is soo legit.

I really hope that Sony is paying attention to the feedback from places like GAF and understands that the Aim controller is a legitimate winner/peripheral. They absolutely should not allow it idle on life support and nearly die like the original Move controllers did on the PS3. Combined with VR, it breathes new life into FPS games.

OK guys, don't be fooled. Bought the thing, spent hours adjusting cam for tracking. This is the failed Kinect all over again. The aim controller is for people with basketball courts for rooms. It doesn't work. Play Resident Evil 7 for your hardcore gaming VR needs.

I have about a 3x4 space that I play in, barely had any issues.

without giving anything away.....did you die a lot?

Yes

I just beat it, if you are still having issues
use the assault rifles rocket to hit the spider queen and use the shotgun and its grenades to hit the smaller enemies. I forgot if you can control the trajectory of rockets.
I was running around a lot, but once I got the hang of it, she isnt that hard.
The next level is already killing me

Thanks, I'll give this a try.

I liked the earlier suggestion of porting the Killzone trilogy to VR. What VR is missing right now is a killer MP experience with incentives to keep coming back, and Killzone could definitely be that title. I would definitely replay Killzone 2 in VR with Aim.

Can you even use a PS3 Sharpshooter with this?

... Literally the first thing in the OP.

This needs to be the future of James Bond and perfect dark somehow holy fuck

And yes I would love a killzone translation

So fking good

Stop bullshitting lot

The game literally only let's you play in a tiny box in front of the camera and I've been playing seated just fine

Just beat it, idk how long I played and idk how to check it but I would guess 6-8 hours of playtime in story mode. The graphics are very good in this, I would say it rivals RE7 and Batman but those 2 games have way different environments than this, which is more open. I am playing on a og PS4 but I did notice the good lighting, the unusually sharp shadows, and the ability to fairly clearly make out monsters who are very far away. Character models are very good though. Faces, although somewhat cartoony and some of the best I have seen in VR. Skin folds while talking, characters keep their head towards you if you are moving around during a cutscene, the facial animations are top notch as well. While the it does seem like you are on "generic alien planet", the sense of presence and scale were so great I constantly was stopping just to admire the area I was in.Although generic it did feel like I was on another world. I am sure this looks amazing on the Pro but still pretty nice on the original.

Gameplay is amazing, they implemented the Aim so perfectly. Everything felt so natural, it did not take long to understand the mechanics of the game. I have my VR legs so a game with full movement was fun as fuck, running around dodging spiders
aliens,
and robots
made it so much more immersive than teleportation or how they handled movement in Mortal Blitz and Batman. Different enemies attack in different ways, some stay far and some get close. A charging
alien
or one of those spiders jumping at my face was fucking terrifying but enjoyable when I killed them. Different enemy types and different guns adds strategy and makes you think on how you need to approach any situation.

Everything else... I would say generic but serviceable. Plot, character designs, character personalities, enemy design, and setting are meh. It wasnt boring enough to where I wanted to skip the cut scenes but I really didn't care for any of the characters or their fates at the end of the day. When you finally get to the
aliens
they arent even that cool, you have seen them and their
technology and buildings
in many media before this.

I would not get a PS4 and PSVR for this solely but if you do have both, PLEASE pick it up. And Sony please please please do more games with the aim controller.

2 nit picks are no RE7 style quick turn and no jumping.

Bundle arrived, played for an hour, and oh my what a ride!

I've neglected my PSVR since REVII, and this feels like I'm playing VR for the first time. So immersive. The Aim controller is dandy. Love how you switch weapons, love the feedback, love the tension on the trigger, graphics are great, so happy.

I set the motion to smooth, and have had no motion sickness issues so that's good.

I will admit defeat after (about an hour in)
I got to the first part where things start coming at you from all directions, and lots of them!
I died twice and gave up for now, so it is not a cakewalk for me. And I love some of the movements of the critters, they seem pretty smart or give off the illusion of being smart anyway.

I dont have a lot of space around my setup and Ive been fine.

Did you beat it? I was frustrated until I found out
if you look left and up -- there is an outcropping of rock jutting out, you can get under that to shield yourself from her projectile attacks after she climbs. Then all you have to do is shoot her after fending off waves of attacks. There is tons of ammo around, too. If the game wasn't in VR, I never would have realized the geography would give me cover lol

Been playing for a couple hours now and the Aim Controller is amazing.

First thing I did was set turning to smooth and speed to the max. All those supposed safeguards against motion sickness nauseate me more than just making it realistic.

I hope more games get patched to support it.

I've been playing standing, I have a small apartment but have full range of motion while standing. Had no problems whatsoever. You do need to put the camera on the top of your tv though.

I beat it. I played the whole game up to that point not realizing that the rockets homed in on where I was aiming so I didnt realize they could hit the target lol. It was much easier after I realized that.

Thanks.

Also what's the battery life like on the aim?

I haven't charged again since the initial charge on Tuesday, and I have been playing at least 45 minutes each day. And, oh I just tweeted ImpluseGear about sitting and they told me, if you go from standing to sitting press the option button and the camera will reset and adjust to you height level.

Just check the charge level 2 out of 3 bars.

Just played some co op. Wow, someone else in virtual space is kind of weird. Co op was fun though, played a round of PVP between a wave. VR pvp shooters would be next level, hopefully the next COD or something can implement this

Does shaking the gun a little work for anyone else when it drifts out of sync?

Yea this works most of the time, if it doesnt then I go to the menu to confirm my position

That cave is bs without smooth turn. Those semi-big spiders freak me the fuck out when the charge. Shotgun is pretty effective though.

Is there any in game recalibration?

I just had a really weird episode. It seemed the calibration on my gun was suddenly all off. The "front" of my view was shifted way to the left.

When I hit the PS button and was looking directly toward my camera, my view was still centered properly (I held options again for good measure).

But when I went back into the game, everything was way to the left again. I basically needed to orient my body to face to the side of my tv to "center" my view. It seemed like I needed an in game only calibration but I couldn't do it.

I've never had my in game orientation be so off from my home screen / theatre mode orientation.

I was getting queasy and sweaty anyways so I guess it was time to stop, but if that issue keeps up I'm gonna be in trouble.

Anyone play Time Crisis 4 on PS3? This is what that game tried to be, but failed MISERABLY at. The controls and the aiming were so clunky in that game, but with VR it all just works. I really hope this game inspires Namco to dust off the Time Crisis series and do a new installment for PSVR with the Aim Controller. I am loving this.

Yeah just rotate it around a whole bunch.

Ok just finished my first hour and I gotta say the AIM controller is fucking amazing. I haven't touched my VR since January and far point is exactly what I needed to get back into it. If you own a PSVR it's a no brainer to pick this up.

Just grabbed the last bundle at Best Buy. I wanna play sitting down, what options should I change before doing so?

I went to best buy after work today on a whim, said f it i love vr let me get in on this.

Apparently somebody had just bought the last one right before i got there ;__;

Worth it? Hows the replay value looking?

100% worth it. Just played another hour CO-OP with a good player and did 2 missions. Once you get into it and things get frantic and your aiming down sights taking enemy's out it's what I invisioned VR to be like. To me this is the stepping stone for FPS's in VR the AIM controller feels natural and the stick and button placements are great. For 64$ with gamers club unlocked it's a must buy.

Beat game.
7/10

Cons:
Cam sucks at detecting.
Crawling bugs come in too many swarms
Scoping has poor zoom range
Not too many in door sections
Once weapon is swapped you are stuck with it throughout level.
Weapon choices are limited.
Swapping weapons is a bad design, and laying a weapon on top of another to switch out is worse.
Hard difficulty, so if you quit it's a reset to the beginning of stage.
Took 20 tries to connect to online match
No button mapping aloud on aim controller
Only one big boss fight
No one at Sony said it would have been great to reskin this into a Starship Troopers game.
No subtitles for the hearing impaired
No auto reloads and some guns reload by either pressing or holding
VR credits should have been in 2D so I could relax after all that.
Regen health sucked in this. Should have copied Doom's healing system.
Walking felt like tiptoeing, while running felt like walking

Pros:
I liked the acting
Cool space settings
Liked the enemies
Very violent
High production values
Some epic moments
Was a good length
Instant respawn after death
Unlimited Ammo
Reminded me of space camp and museum expeditions

So I set my height to 6', but in game I appear to be 3' or 4' tall, the ground is higher than my knees. Anyone else experiencing this? If I trick the calibration by bending down and holding recenter I can get the ground level to be close to my real floor level, but then people in cutscenes look like midgets.

Is the camera on top of your TV?

I wish the Doom VR thing from Bethesda was basically these controls implemented into that game, but judging from the little demo I participated in last year they are going to be way too paranoid of motion sickness for that.

Thousands and thousands of people report the Aim controller is tracked beautifully. They must all be wrong, because yours don't. Try googling egocentrism, learn something about yourself!

If anyone needs to read about that its you. The guy came back to thr thread to say how he felt he was wrong. You dont read things properly.

No, he explicitely warned the whole world not to be fooled (by thousands and thousands of positive impressions), because it simply does not work at all.

Don't bring your quarrel with me from the other thread into this!

Huh? You can swap back to other weapons

I think he means once you pick up a new weapon the one you put down is lost forever (unless you pick one back up).

A weapon wheel would have been nice so we could carry more than 2. I put my shotgun down to pickup the sniper rifle and kinda regret it now.

I'm having serious withdrawal symptoms. After playing for 3.5 hours on launch day I've not had a change to jump back into the game yet. Hopefully I can finish off the single player tonight. Loving the game so far.

I'm enjoying the game a lot, but I hate the way it saves. I keep having to re-play huge portions of levels just because I wanted to quit the game before a cutscene that I didn't know was coming.

Luckily it's awesome to play or else I would have been more annoyed with how many times I've replayed some of the same areas.

Also, a certain sniping friend in the campaign killed me multiple times in one area. We'd be hiding behind cover, I'd just get one-shotted and have no idea what enemy could have hit me, and then the game tells me to be careful of friendly-fire. lol thanks

Does this happen later in the game? I'm in the second level, and just picked up a shotgun. And I could still swap back to my rifle.

Getting a lot of dropped connections in co-op mode which is annoying. my NAT configuration i good so either they don't like me, or there is some dodgy network code.

Finished the single player mode at last and felt it started to drag on towards the end, very linear and bare bones. They need to get some clear save-point indicators in as replaying sections you thought you cleared is frustrating.

Co-op is amazing, and no doubt going to be where 95% of my time is spent. IMO they should have shortened the single-player into a tutorial style level and focused more on the multiplayer aspects, maybe having 4 player co-op and more gameplay variants.

Having friendly fire on, and no player markers allowed for some adhoc deathmatch games which were great.

Big fan of the Aim controller, feels far less artificial than holding the wands and the vibration on the thing makes is really satisfying to use. Hope more games come out and use it.

Alrighty. Farpoint. FUCKING AWESOME! Aim Controller- WELCOME TO THE FUTURE OF FPS GAMING! So awesome.

Plus you really get to aim down the sights like a real gun. As you start to pull the gun up towards your eye, you can see a hologram form inside the iron sight (like it recognizes your eyeball and starts to emit the hologram) And it fucking works! Aiming down the sight is true to life! So far 5 more games are supporting it so it's not going to be a waste if Sony just stops the support today. Whew!

And the game makes you really feel like you are on another planet. In the beginning, you are on a space ship and even though you are not holding the gun in the game you feel it rumble as the cutscene plays out. Why I found it immersive is because the ship console is close to your body. There was about 2 or 3 times where I was extending out my arms and then I thought I was going to hit the console. That's immersion.

Then when I landed on the planet, I saw in the distance a mountain and the fucking plume of smoke coming out and filling the sky as I looked up with fucking incredible. If you've seen Galaxy Quest, think of when the captain was on the rock desert scene. That's where you sort of start out and it definitely feels like you are there!

Not after you leave the area. Once you make your choice and walk off you can't change your mind. When you prepare for missions you can choose, but who is going to decide to restart the whole mission just to go back to one gun?

Well maybe it's not common then. I haven't had this much trouble setting up cam since Kinect. I mean it was Steal Batalian all over again. Let me try it In other rooms because my lighting sucks and it could be something minor that I haven't considered. Motion control problems are nothing new. Reports claimed that Skyward Sword had detection issues and most people experienced it flawlessly. Myamotto even said he went through rehearsal smoothly but on stage his live E3 demo made it seem like a broken device.
