Bungie explains why Destiny 2 doesn't have dedicated servers

TLDR: We are cheap

Give us your money

Overwatch, Halo 5, Battlefront 2, CoD IW

Titanfall, gears of war 4, on and on and on and on and on

Modern shooters on console are 60fps with proper tick rates and dedicated servers...period

It is the bare fucking minimum

Activision don't care. Modern Warfare 2 was a clear sign that gamers will lapped it up regardless no dedicated servers.

If an improved network experience is what you are lookgin to achieve, this is the wrong way to go about it, Bungie.

Luke Smith: "It's just not an investment that we made for Destiny 2, like the uh... I understand there's certainly a desire for it. You know, the smaller team format, although it's one person bigger in the Trials case for sure here, in the smaller team format in general it's easier for us to find tighter matches. And we're also going to rechange the parameters for matchmaking, to refocus on connection quality instead of like Trials win matching. WE're gonna like change the, we're going to change a bunch of parameters to focus on giving people a better network experience."

yeah thank god you cleared that one up..

Non of this post makes any kind of sense. lol. You don't have any kind of context of how both games work, their requierments server side, their networking implementation and requierements, etc.

It's just a blatant rant.

Neither do you. We already know how much better dedis work for a game running on Bungie tech like Halo. That's all that should matter.

And this is why I'll wait until the complete edition a couple years down the road. I don't want to invest in the content drip feed if they don't want to invest in dedicated servers.

It's just not an investment I'm making for Destiny 2, Luke.

Disgusting, a very wealthy company is to cheap for dedicated servers.

It's just surprising because of how popular the first game was and still is. You'd think they would invest money in dedicated servers. Players have complained about the lag so much but I guess it doesn't matter.

Psyonix, indie-studio behind a very popular multiplayer title: 60fps, dedicated servers on all platforms on launch

Activision, multi-billion dollar company: 30fps, P2P

Oranges and apples and all that, but I do find it amusing. 30fps and P2P in a multiplayer game for $70 is absolutely out of the question.

This.

Bungie still thinks gaming is stuck X360 era making halo 3 or something. Their all recent creations shows this. 30 fps, no dedicated servers, late pc ports.

wow gtfo with that shit i will rather buy CoD WW2/FarCry or Battlefront 2

not like i am short on games

I have no idea what that is even supposed to mean =/

I'm not comparing how they work ... Do I need to know their networking implementation inside out in order to criticize their decision on this matter? Not sure what your point is.

I'm saying Psyonix made the right choice, and I find it amusing that a company with infinite resources can't do the same.

What makes that the right choice? That's the question you need to ask yourself, Dedicated servers are no magical solution, they are good as their implementation, if they work like crap, they are no different than any other solution. That's what people need to understand, it's not simply a thing to bitch about the game doesn't have.

Neither do you. We already know how much better dedis work for a game running on Bungie tech like Halo. That's all that should matter.

I completely do, that's why i don't bitch about them and i would instead focus my criticism towards why they can't develop more efficient tools and engine to get more out of their budgets for the game's infraestructure and minimize the stuff they need to cheap out because of this.

Nice job insulting Destiny fans, I guess

Well, i mean, if you go out of your way to get insulted by my comment despite it not being directed at anyone. That's kinda on you.

I don't think a person who considers us to be lucky to buy their products is a "fan". A drone would be more accurate.

It makes sense, just google Psyonix (rocket league yo). RL is pretty fast paced action which sucks with medium to high latency.

That was a really bad response. Just in general, not necessarily with the additional knowledge that they could afford it.

You're still supporting Activision's shitty practices either way...

I'm not buying day 1 regardless of the server-type. Going to wait this one out for a bit!

Well, that's really disapointing. Don't care what features, tweaks, and balancing you do. Not going to bother with a 30fps p2p mode competitive mode.

Shame, I was really excited for Destiny 2, but Bungie dropped two bombs on my hopes yesterday. This and delayed PC version. Not so sure I'll get the game anymore.

Pretty pathetic, considering how much money they had to be raking in on overpriced cash shop cosmetics. You would think they would invest in dedi servers to show the pvp dudes who have been keeping D1 alive on twitch some love. Disappointing, but you have to remember Bungie have been saying for years that PvP is casual focused, no matter how much the community begs them to balance otherwise.

Considering this and a number of other factors, I'm starting to feel they're cheaping out on this game.

It's making me less interested in the product.

EXACTLY! Are they evil for doing that? NO, people need to stop trying to shape the game to something it won't ever be. The sooner they understand that, the faster they'll be playing a game tailored to their needs.

They never bothered to try as I thought.

I also remember why I don't like Luke Smith much, PR I know but it grates.

What else do you expect him to say? His Activision masters wouldn't let him?

You know the devs would like to but it isn't there choice. Damn you Activision, DAMN YOUUUU!

I can't recall any positive experiences with P2P on PC.

The lack of fixed hardware always leads to wildly variable experiences based on the power of the other players' machines (even ignoring the normal bandwidth issues).
