Media Create Sales: Week 19, 2017 (May 08 - May 14)

They dont need but to make sure the fans is engaged to the product they sure need to. There is a reason why ffxv keep coming with info like every month till it released or nintendo direct for certain title is being pushed.

Engaging fans will lead to WoM being spread around and increase its sales.

I am just thinking that the first had that huge pull in ps3 as one of the big jrpg coming out on consoles after year of disappointment while for NnK , jrpg genre is not exactly facing any drought at all so it will had quite some competition and if L-5 dont try to engage with the fans, some would probably forget about the game even coming.

Many people hated that and the livestreams became more and more redundant. You're right in Ni No Kuni has more competition now but JRPGs is still a small genre with releases not coming very often.

Why can't consoles sell in China now? I know they had that iQue thing back in the day, but the Chinese middle class is a lot more developed than back then.

I don't think Nintendo has even any plans for China aside from the above mentioned to put Nintendo games on Nvidia Shield.

For example, I don't understand why they didn't release Super Mario Run in China even though they released it in 150+ countries. I don't think it has changed aside from it releasing in South Korea earlier this year.

They no longer have the iQue thing, iirc they just merged it to their Hong Kong branch where Hong Kong has Switch units available.

So it looks like they prefer just putting their games on Nvidia Shield for China rather than releasing the Switch there like Sony and Microsoft have done with their consoles already.

But why?

To truly do business in China you need to be willing to let some things go in China. The partnerships with Chinese businesses are usually not "fair" so to speak. Nintendo might just be too proud to agree to those terms if they can make enough money without China.

At least Nintendo is trying to penetrate the Chinese market. We have been getting localization for Pokemon Sun / Moon and Fire Emblem Echoes.

Do you have any examples about these practices? Just curious.
I think foreign companies trying to do business in China have to form joint ventures where the local partner has majority ownership. At least, that's how it works in the car industry.

I guess there's more to it but I don't follow much Chinese business news outside of that.

I actually own an Ique GBA SP lol. And i can guarantee that the screen quality is much better vs original GBA SP screen lol.^^

As many people hated it, it still increase the title awareness there. As just like people say. There is no such thing as bad publicity there. It is better to get some negative press than zero press lol.^^

We haven't seen the end of Sony on portable devices but we have on dedicated handhelds IMO. Sony is having great success in the mobile space and that had no impact on their console efforts. I think it's more likely to push more into mobile rather than trying another expensive piece of HW with little benefit.
The successful mobile efforts are headed by Sony Music though. Meanwhile Sony Interactive Entertainment/Playstation moved its main headquarters to the US.

Didn't know that, thanks!

It's also not as if Microsoft or Sony have gained much by having official distribution in China. There is almost no advertising here for the games or the consoles. So you're still stuck with the enthusiast crowd buying the consoles, and they usually get cheaper HK imports.

The only change has been that Sony and Microsoft stores now offer both consoles respectively.

Though apparently Square is doing well from the Chinese business. Both FFX HD and FFXV are pretty much THE titles to get for ps4 officially over here.

By the trailer it seems Far Cry 5 will be a PS4 exclusive in Japan.

The future Vivendi subsidiary and EA are essentially the only ones releasing Xbox One games in Japan, and maybe Ubisoft is bailing.

Did they sign any kind of exclusive marketing deal with Sony or something?

what if the shield is going to be a replacement for the switch in China?
I don't think Nintendo will port full Switch games over. I know the hardware is the same, apart from RAM and clock speeds.

But could we see a VC arrangement of games on the Shield up to Wii or Wii U era?

why not? It's not like they are going to release the switch in China

Level 5 is heading to irrelevance this generation if they don't find a hit on Switch. Only Pokemon can save them now.

Mpl90

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
err but what does Level 5 have anything to do with Pokemon?

If there is a Pokémon game like the heavily rumoured Stars coming to Switch this Holiday season, that will make the console much more attractive for a less hardcore subset of the general audience, so families and children, thus Level 5's biggest audience for their major franchises.

If Level 5 still keep hitting a strike zone, by next couple of years, Platinum Games may will be a bigger company :p

Looks like there was some additional stuff in the interview Hino gave today that has already been posted on here today regarding their Switch support.

Hino wants to keep releasing a new Yokai Watch movie every year; Hino himself wrote the entire script for the upcoming movie release by himself.

Hino admits that the franchise has tapered off fairly significantly compared to 2014 when the second game in the franchise released. Hino says that originally Yokai Watch appealed to everyone of all ages, but now just seems to be popular with young children. He has many ideas on how to revitalize the franchise and bring new customers back which should start with the new movie coming at the end of this year and of course with the eventual release of Yokai Watch 4.

Some stuff about Snack World that is kinda nothing. Inazuma Eleven stuff that is mostly nothing, but reconfirming the game is for "high-spec console(s?)" and that they are thinking of releasing it on smartphones at the same time. Then goes on to champion how important smartphones will be for kids in the near future.

Three quick questions:

1.) Did his eSports comment contain anything meaningful, or was it mostly "I think trophies/achievements and leaderboards are cool and like to think of them as akin to eSports?"

2.) Did he imply that the Inazuma Eleven game is unveiling in September at some kind of Great Eas... Revival Festival they're holding?

3.) Just to double check the last thing you said, that's consoles (plural) and releasing the *same* game on smartphones as he thinks phones will be a major platform for kids in the near future?

1. Nothing big. More about how e-sports has enabled great players to be able to become soft of like 'mini-celebrities' for other people to admire and how that in turn makes gaming as a whole feel much more "major" and improves its reputation as a whole.

2. No, more like a stage show where they can gather thousands of fans to watch events live at a big stadium. It is possible they could announce game information there, but it isn't explicitly stated otherwise.

3. There really is no plural form in Japanese. It could be 1 or maybe more. In regards to the game, the wording seems to make it very clear their desire for releasing the same game on smartphones at the same time and not a separate game as he does think that it is very possible for smartphones to be the main gaming device for children of the not so distant future

Thank you. I'll probably split off a thread once I get into work.

Nintendo should do the Switch VC with forward compatibility in mind. Not only to Switch updates and successors but also perhaps to other devices like tablets, phones or computers. I wonder if using Vulkan could help with that?

Its ratings aren't high enough anymore to get a percentage.

It seems to be doing pretty bad.
Snack World is a flop. Hino would've been better served trying to retrofit Fantasy Life into a cross-media project.

Nintendo's stock value is currently at ¥31,310, it has almost reached the peak for when Pokémon Go happened last year which was about 400 yen higher and again, other than when Pokémon Go released, it hasn't been that high since 2010 iirc.
