Game Freak hiring programmer for 3DS RPG (so next Pokemon will be on 3DS?)

Pokemon's first mainline game in HD has to be big, they have to charge $60 and not $40 like past games, I would understand if they release a 3DS game this year so they can prepare for their Switch game next year or 2019.

I wonder what this means. We still have the other job listing as well, also for Pokémon, where hints directed us quite clearly to Switch development. Curious indeed.

as long as games continue to sell on 3DS, they won't throw in the towel just yet. I can see the 3DS have at least 2 more years in them, and they'll get the next pokemon(if it releases this fall or sometime next year) for sure.

Guys, this would have no impact on whatever the upcoming game is. If we're getting a game, it'd be done and nearing testing. They wouldn't be hiring programmers for it.

Of course they could. Whatever it's coming, even if it's this year it's not ready yet.

People are also discounting the possibility that it could be for elements in games that already exist, so patches for Sun/Moon, updates to catch hackers etc.

Not really how it works but sure :p

Okay, this is getting frankly ridiculous. I love the 3DS, had mine since launch day, but can we please let it die a graceful death? Why must we keep dragging its life out like this? There's no shame in ending the 3DS's life; it was a very respectable little handheld, but Switch needs Nintendo's support right now.

This gif is so good. It also represents all of FF and KH fans.

Doesn't say it's a new RPG
Yes it does, look again "メインタイトルは3DS向けののRPG。"

Edit: oh you might mean it doesn't say it's new. I thought you were saying it doesn't say RPG.

Why are so many people expecting them to continue this generation on the Switch? When have they ever broken up a generation like this? The closest I can think of would be Yellow and that was more like a 3DS->N3DS transition, not a generational gap. Unless they're going cross-platform it doesn't make much sense for them to abandon the 3DS just yet.

Ah, good points.

Lets look this from a different perspective. Why do they need a 3ds programmers? Because all of their previous programmers are working on Switch ;)

I'll be laughing my ass off at all the salt that will flood GAF if Stars turns out to be a 3DS game all along. Of course, I could always be wrong too. But Stars being 3DS only make way more business sense than making it Switch exclusive.

What a wimp. They might dont have any confidence on creating HD Pokemon. I was really looking forward for Pokemon Switch and hopefully not just a port.

The amount of salt in this thread is staggering.

As mentioned already, Switch doesn't have enough units sold to justify Switch-only Pokemon. At least yet.

This

But then again I do like salt on my popcorn. Keep the freak out going guys lol. It's entertaining.

It was always going to be cross platform at best. Game Freak has historically always chased the largest possible user base. A switch version of the next game might still be in the books, assuming that Nintendo provides the necessary incentive to make one.

Ask me which Shakespeare novel is best
I mean, it would coincide with Ninty's sales expectations for the 3DS in the upcoming years. It needs as stellar hit to reach those numbers and Dragon Quest XI ain't gonna get it done by itself.

Still, I thoroughly believe the rumoured Stars is coming to the Switch, and the 3DS as well. It'd make sense seeing as though they have a potential 15 million sales still waiting on the 3DS. They're not gonna pass that up. I mean, would you?

Whatever it ends up landing on, it's Pokemon in the end, so will be a great game nonetheless. Just chill.

New Pokémon on 3ds solidifies that it's still Nintendo's main handheld and that switch is foremost a home console. The 3ds will thrive for years to come.

You guys really need to let this one go. Makes you sound crazy.

3DS isnt going anyway.

3DS is going away, just not as fast as the WiiU did, because WiiU was a total failure. Amount of new titles developed for 3DS will rapidly decrease and for Switch will decrease. You can live in denial all you want, but 6 year old device with resolution of 400x240 has very limited life span left in 2017.

Easy enough to just port up like Zelda, add some Switch enhancements and rake in the extra dollars. Would be utterly stupid to only support the 3DS with a title as big as Pokemon when in comparison a title that is much smaller (Zelda) going both Wii U and Switch.

And of course the logical reason behind supporting the 3DS still is that ridiculous userbase. Why give up on 60+ million units sold to date?

Please point to where it says this is for the next Pokemon game and that one isn't coming to the Switch. Of course you can keep make huge jumps to conclusions too
