4k6 works, 1080p/144hz needs some settings turned down

Try setting a negative LOD bias, or use Reshade to sharpen.

I did with lod bias first, and sharpen is horrible. What's the point in making edges look better if the rest of the screen looks worse.

Tbh tho, 4k60 on a 1080p screen is enough. (not DSR, with custom res)

So how are the MKB controls?

Still unsure if I go 4k60 controller or 1080p144hz MKB.

I find movement pretty hard on keyboard, but it could be because of muscle memory.

Feels like the left hand is doing too much of the work, but aiming is like... amazing, though, as pointed out, feels super slow when zoomed.

(but then, someone will probably come along and fix this at some point, probably)

I should probably stop being lazy and find a way to get gyro or something working from my DS4 lol

Man, this game is so much fun I can't believe it. It didn't grab me at first but then it started to click. It's awesome!

Anyone try out 1080ti or titan xp at higher resolutions and 144 fps? How far can you push it?

At 1440p I get 170-190 fps everything maxed (7700k/titan xp/16gb).

Lowest count I've seen is 130 something. It stays well above that normally though.

It looks rough, though. Later on I'll try DSR and see what I can get.

Don't laugh, but this is actually my first cover shooter. Never played anything like Gears, or Uncharted. But this is fun! Even if I keep dying from not taking cover often enough.

How do I get the preorder bonuses?

They're in SteamApps\common\Vanquish\Extras.

You're not supposed to take cover, really; the waist-high walls and such are just there to account for those who are more comfortable playing the game as a modern TPS. It was designed around the idea of the player always zipping about the place and stylishly dodging projectiles.

Incredible, thrilling pulse pounding fun. I love the fact you can do tons of crazy shit with sheer glee. Do a sick roll JUST at the last second and filling a robots face full of lead in slow motion never gets old.

Performance:

970
I5 4440
500gb stock WD HDD (ssd is full)
Win10

Rock solid 60fps at 1080p max settings apart from fxaa.being set. No drops

Same for dsr from 1440p.

Excellent port work platinum!!

The resolution and framerate here make the game so much more readable, great leap from before though I still feel it's hard on my eyes.
Useful exploit on keyboard for top and right weapons, pushing their keys while using them trigger the swap animation, so easy fast reload.

Tried 4k again and set SSAO and Shadows to normal and getting around 80fps but has dropped to like 64. Using a 980ti.

It looks so much better than 1440p, I think I'll put up with any drops as long as it doesn't get too bad. It really does look much better on my screen.

Really digging the game now as well and I'm only on Act 2.

There we go, finished in 3h and 44s. After waiting for a playable port since the PS3 demo that was quite a relief!

Good fun apart from the forced walking sections and the searchlight part.

And that AP pistol...

Seriously the game is only ~2.5GB and the FMV's are the rest of the game? That's some insane small size all things considered for the game itself!

I keep trying to do that but I keep dying from stuff that comes outta nowhere. It's like you get shot twice, and suddenly you're in slow-mo. Blehhhh...

Bit disappointed that the UI is blocky and pixelated. I guess they've just stretched it from 720p and not bothered to redo it.
They could at least put some filtering on it. Maybe Lanczos, if they're feeling fancy.

Flat 69fps too? Been waiting for impressions from a 280X user. Not disappointed!

69fps? I can only get 60, i always use v-sync.

Tested it for few minutes only and my fps wasn't constant 60fps. In 1st person ot was around 45. And in 3rd person 55-60.

It actually plays great on a kb/m, I fully planned on using a gamepad but I think I'm gonna stick with kb/m.

Is that to do with most monitors not being able to go above 60Hz refresh rate and V-Sync locking onto that?

I'm fine playing it as a cover shooter until I get better at it. I'm still sliding about here and there to escape or get behind people. Flanking seems to be really useful in the big fights.

Having a blast, surprised how much tbh.

I don't have it on PC... but I'm really glad more people are experiencing what I deem to be the greatest shooter ever made. Vanquish is the best in its genre whether you are assessing 3rd person shooters or shooters as a whole.

It's bullet hell finally done right in a 3D game.

I played this way back when it was on PS+. I thought it was ok but in retrospect I think I played it all wrong. I should give it another shot after seeing some skill videos.

5K and DSR back to 1440p on a 1080Ti is gorgeous and smooth.

Except for those first person segments. Jesus Christ what did they do to make a 1080 Ti choke?

The FPS sequences aren't making your 1080 ti choke. There's just something off about them, they don't even use a lot of GPU power on them, my 1080 is like 50-60 percent use during those scenes despite running a lot slower than the rest of the game.

Ironically, this is the least cover-based shooter that has cover that you'll play. Cover at best is there for you to catch your breath for a second and examine the battlefield before rocketing back into the fray

Isn't it possible that the first person sequences are slowing down because the game is loading in the next area? That is the reason for their existence after all.

Ya, cover is mostly just used for letting your boost recharge and flicking a distraction cigarette out before you get back in there.

ItsTheNew

I believe any game made before 1997 is "essentially cave man art."
Dying on the first level and the terrible checkpointing is reminding me why I didn't play very much of this the first time around. Who thought melee tied to laser gun/ sliding was a good idea?

Melee is extremely powerful and can give you a height advantage depending on the attack. It's more of a "save for the right moment special attack" than a regular melee attack you'd find in a shooter.

I'm finding the performance to be unexpectedly good on my 5-year old system (i7-3930K, 16GB RAM, GTX 690). Initially I put the settings down a little (particularly shadows and AO) thinking it would tax my hardware a bit too much, and after putting them and everything else up to full the framerate still hangs mostly around 60fps in what I've noticed so far (playing up to and defeating the first boss). Apart from those first-person sections of course, which bizarrely drop to around 30fps. This is at 2560x1080 and running on just one of the 690's cores (since no SLI profile).

I'm equally pleased to see it plays fine with keyboard and mouse too.

I think Vanquish technically has cover shooting in the same way that something like Blacklist technically has cover shooting. You gotta respect the chest high walls, but you ain't playin' the games like Gears/Uncharted.

An hour in, and I'm having very vivid recollections of the first time I played Vanquish over half a decade ago: specifically, the feeling of being overwhelmed by the speed and movement complexity available and questioning my deep-seated beliefs about my video game prowess.

Also, I'm loving every second of it.

not a cover shooter.

I thought it was a cover shooter until you got gud and had a handle on your mobility options and not overheating. Oh well. And it's my first game with a cover system that isn't a stealth game like Deus Ex HR.
