Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

Viper isn't a mutant normally, though she did show up in the Wolverine, and was a mutant there

Despite being in an X-Men movie, and having some ties to Wolverine and Silver Samurai, I always associated her enough with Hydra that I didn't think of her as much of an X-men related character.

The movies don't matter in regards to the game though. Beyond maybe giving characters movie-based costumes, movie lore has no bearing on them. If Viper were in MvCI, she would be a human and leader of Hydra, not a mutant, just like she is in every other game she appears in.

Top 20 female mutants IMO:

Storm
Jean Grey
Rogue
Psylocke
Emma Frost
Mytique
X-23
Scarlet Witch
Firestar
Polaris
Blink
Jubilee
Kitty Pryde
Spiral
Callisto
Dazzle
Magik
Viper
Moon Star

Some of these can make cool fighting characters especially Moon Star.
Scarlet Witch isn't a mutant, anymore (neither is Quicksilver).

That doesn't even make sense but then again it's Marvel comics so who the hell knows. Like are they not Magneto's children anymore?

Also who does Viper and Firestar belong to?

Viper was featured in a FOX movie and was referred to as a mutant... so how come FOX has rights over Viper when she is supposed to be associated with Hydra?

What about Firestar? She is classified as a mutant but she is mostly known for appearing alongside Spider Man. Can Sony use her?

These rights things will never make sense to me.

No they're no longer Magneto's children.

I think in Viper's case it's a borderline situation like the Maximoffs because she is indeed featured in a Fox movie.
However, she is not and never has been a mutant in the books. There's also to note that the character appears in the MCU-based show Agents of SHIELD, which increases the likelihood of her being in a similar boat as the Maximoffs - she is a Hydra character and a human in the books, but since she is so heavily associated with Wolverine, Fox was able to use her. Kind of a reverse on how the twins worked out.

What about Firestar? She is classified as a mutant but she is mostly known for appearing alongside Spider Man. Can Sony use her?

Firestar was created as an original character for the Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends cartoon because they couldn't use Human Torch for some reason (iirc he was dead at the time and Marvel didn't want to promote a dead character).
When she was brought into the official Marvel comic universe, she was not coupled with Spider-Man all that much, iirc only to tie into the show for a couple of issues, and mostly has been hanging out with Emma Frost and her Hellions (the Hellfire Club's variation of the New Mutants), and after they got wiped out and Emma joined the X-Men, Firestar over the course of her history was a member of the New Warriors, the Avengers and a tutor at the X Academy.
So she mostly is associated with X-Men properties in the books.

LOL what a dumb retcon. Though par for the course when it comes to comic books I guess.

Though Marvel/Capcom should be freely able to use Scarlet Witch in Marvel Infinite right (as she was in the Avengers movie along with being in X Men DofP)?

It seems like the twins are a bit of an iffy issue in regards to the video game branch during the Fox ban.
Some games ended up using them - Lego Avengers and Puzzle Quest -, but only the Avengers 2 version, and no comic book variation (to my knowledge at least). Meanwhile, Future Fight and Avengers Academy do not feature them at all.

I'm sure she'll be in it. Marvel and Fox have a joint custody thing of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.

I'd rather have Dotted-Line-Girl in the game than Sue Storm. No joke.

...why?
Sue Storm has top tier powers. Her ability to create force fields and constructs is badass. And her days being "the girl" on the F4 have been over for about half a century. She's a strong, motherly figure. There's a reason that Sue Storm is one of the very few people in the world that Doom respects and even trusts, despite being his enemy, the wife of his arch nemesis, and having fought him countless times.

It'd be nice if they had a few characters on standby that could just be thrown in...for now. Wolverine and Deadpool would suffice. Wolverine alone would be better than 0 X-Men representation.

I really don't expect this, but it's nice to think about.

Just imagine how much more receptive people would be knowing X-Men are there day 1. Hope this doesn't affect sells too badly.
Yep, Wolverine as a rep for the X-Men in the base roster would be nice. Just to show some respect to who were the characters that started the series.

"Legacy will not be lost" or something like, I hope they didn't used that only to calm the first reactions after the reveal.

I'm pretty confidant Wolverine will show up at launch. He's in everything Marvel vs. Capcom-related.

How would you feel if Mr. Fantastic was playable and Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and Thing were his assists similar to Captain Commando and his crew?

I REALLY WANT THAT

first x man should be completely new. Magik or Mr sinister yes please.

Neither of these characters (particularly Sinister) come even close to the popularity of especially Wolverine but also most mainline X-Men and their villains in general. If we're getting a new X-Men character, it'll either be a returning veteran that skipped MvC3 like Cyclops, or if it's one that hasn't been in any of the Capcom fighting games before, it'll be someone like Emma Frost, a character who is massively popular but never made it into any of the fighters.
B-listers like Magik, and especially second rate villains like Sinister have no chance.

And aside from that, Sinister is awful, and Magik is boring. If we are already getting a teleporting sword fighter, I'd rather have Nightcrawler than her, unless she gets some Carl Clover-esque demon summon.

Imagine how hype it'd be if E3 opened with Wolverine sheathing his claws saying, "Let's go, bub!"

Capcom and Marvel both realize how important the X-Men are. The possibility of a rep or 2 getting in isn't that far-fetched. I don't see it happening, but anything can happen.

No matter what, it beats DLC.

Well, if the rumors about the lack of X-Men were not so strong and the FOX ban was lifted a year earlier I would be confident about his inclussion.

Yep, anything can happen. Capcom would get a lot of talk and "praise" if X-Men made the base roster after all the rumors, MCU focus moves and lack of variant covers for comics (just to name a few)

Imagine there's a close up teaser with the claws coming out from the edge of the screen..."snikt!"

And then the screen pans out and it's everbody's favorite Date Masamune.

"ARE YOU READY GUYS?!"

Didn't expect to see her mentioned
Would be nice to see her again. Maybe not in MVCI but something (Lego Marvel 2?). There's gotta be a way to differentiate her Radiation powers from normal fire.

I want Magik because she has that giant sword and I don't think we've had a character with a really HUGE sword in a marvel game. It might be unique

I want Magik too.

Though Kaijin no Soki was in TvC so he comes close to a big sword character in a versus game.

Edit: Technically Dante counts too.

Aha! But I said Marvel game not Versus game! (Never thought about Kaijin.)

I did think about Dante....I don't think Soulsword and Rebellion would work the same. Soulsword looks like it would have a ton of weight and make her a slow, powerful sword user with summons and fiery projectiles plus teleports.

Eh, I don't know anymore... :p

One of my fond memories of Firestar was in Maximum Carnage the video game where you can call her as an assist and she carpeted the ground with fire and lit everyone up. Definitely one of my favorite assists to use in the game and it did bonus damage to Carnage lol!

Iron Fist assist was trash.

She's in Marvel Heroes as an assist character. Was one of the first even.

Venom was like the best assist, lol.

Cloak and Dagger was pretty good as well.

But yeah, Iron Fist was ass.

I don't see it happening but god do I want to see a X-23/Jubilee team up in MvCI.

I also wonder how they're gonna do special intros. I'd like the standard "oppenents making unique trash talk remarks" but I'd also like the SFxT of unique team animations.

Jubilee got too convoluted for me to care for her inclusion. Classic is too 90s and irrelevant and "post vampire" Marvel Now is eh...

Really, Storm alone would satisfy me.

Phoenix and X-23 returning will be pluses.

Others I'd want would be Magik, Emma Frost, Mystique, Psylocke, Rogue, Kitty and Dust.

Storm, Phoenix, Rogue and Psylocke would be the best of the best IMO.

Damn, looking up Maximum Carnage made me realize that I played it too. Somehow I totally forgot about it.

Game was mad difficult.

The Separation Anxiety game wasn't any better.

Btw, I was always surprised to see Dazzler in the X-Men Arcade game. I remember not knowing anything about her. I read a story arc that was between the Proteus and Hellfire Club arcs when she was briefly with them. When Professor X offered her a spot on the team, she declined and went back to music.

Would she be considered an X-Men member? Or just someone that was affiliated with them?

I'd consider her an X-Men character. She's another I'd like to see.

Edit: Speaking of Dazzler...

I don't know why they never teamed her up with Songbird and Siryn in the comics. That trio could pull off some wicked stunts.

I remember when I saw the MVC1 assist characters in a GamePro magazine and assumed they were playable. The idea of having a playable Jubilee back then was shocking in itself. When I finally played the game, I was salty as fuck. I had no idea what assists were, nor did I care.

I only played Spidey, so that's why I wasn't aware. It makes sense, though.

Btw, Carrion was an annoying piece of shit. That game was ridiculously hard.
That game was mad cheap but you had to use certain tricks to beat the game.

One of which being the back jump attack as you can cancel any attack into it. And you always had to try to land the double web throw (web throw in between two enemies triggers a double grapple where you smash both of them together doing big damage) Not to mention all the wall/web swing defensive moves. Interactables were also key, the first real major boss fight against the Doppelganger was key as you could throw the water tower at him for an easy kill otherwise you end up taking too much damage.

The game had legit combat depth back in the day. But it was still cheap as hell, you could get ganked and then die in a single sequence real quick. And they threw like multiple bosses at you once. The second to final stage was like all the bosses together or some non sense like that followed by Carnage... twice and the final time you fight him in front of an asylum and he had so many health bars (but luckily you get to use both Venom and Spider Man for the fight so your health pool is effectively doubled too).

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Teasing Rocket gameplay and then stay silent for weeks, what a fucking stupid move that was from Capcpom and Mahvel.
