Dragon Quest XI Countdown Carnival Special Stage live stream set for May 27

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Man what was up with this low resolution stream? Had the same issue with MHXX stream earlier... Weird.

The 3ds version needs to come to the Switch. I want that version but not on the 3ds screens.
It's crazy... That's where I stand as well now. PS4 version look great but the 3DS version is more appealing and the combat looks better to me.

I really hope we get the 3DS version in the west if the Switch version is just the PS4/UE4 version.

Best outcome would be if the Switch version had all 3 styles... But that's probably asking too much.

I would think switch could probably do all 3 versions if they really tried. PS4 version docked and the other versions when portable.

I don't think SE will do that, no one will buy the PS4 version then.

Or maybe this is why SE is not talking about the switch version yet?

3ds version is as classic as nes/snes era, i thought it was more like DS remakes/DQIX, also i felt it was faster to travel compared to PS4 version due to its simplicity

as for PS4 version, most likely it's gonna be my main game, more or less i want to play at HD , i dont think i'm going to play both versions.

i loved the idea of TV commercial , it was so classic, especially for someone who played all the games so far, good old days :)

So I missed the PS4 part, what did free move end up being like?

It looks stupid as hell. Only the controlled character moves.

I don't think SE will do that, no one will buy the PS4 version then.

Unless the switch version is gonna take years to come out and nintendo is paying them for it, i dunno why you think thats even possible.
And itll knock 3ds sales more than anything

This would be amazing. Especially if you could change between the 3 styles at will during your play through. I know we're definitely asking for too much now though lol.

From the interview:

Dragon Quest XI began development just a little over 2 years ago in 2015. Development was originally just the PS4 version, but because they wanted the series to get in as many hands as possible they began developing a 3DS version. They didn't want people playing the 3DS version to feel that they were playing an inferior version, so one of the staff on the project had the idea of having a 3D and 2D mode and got the ok.

They are happy with the PS4 version graphics and the realism it provides which they think goes well with Toriyama's style, but feel if they made it anymore realistic it would lose its DQ-ness.

Switch version being the ultimate edition would be amazing. I don't know if it makes sense for SE to do it, but I want it.

It took them more time to make the kh 3 demo than it took them to make this game twice with 1 version on the same engine

The theme of a hero being pursued has been there from the very start of development.

Sugiyama was told to prepare himself since they wanted every song in DQ11 to be brand new. They feel as if 1-10 is a separate thing and11 as a brand new start in the series which they say is reflected on both the logo design and the subtitle.

I'm honestly glad free movement is just a cosmetic thing. No hybrid battle systems in my (offline) DQ titles, please.

The last thing they talked about was a restricted play mode, where you can enforce certain restrictions. The one they showed was not being able to buy items. It would be cool if they could facilitate a solo hero playthrough, or a low level playthrough, or something like that, through this mode.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm okay with that. It sounds kind of dumb but at the same time I mostly was just hoping for the classic battles in tact.

Hmmm...is the PS4 footage archived? Don't know Japanese so don't know where to look.

Horii struggled the most with the protagonist. As he is the avatar for the player he couldn't have too much personality, but at the same time giving him none would make him uncool and a lifeless doll. Toriyama calls the protagonist a little serious and plain. They didn't want him to wear anything to extravagant since he is being pursued.

Are they Bravely Default style sliders or permanent toggles?

This restricted mode sounds amazing. Probably the closest we'll ever get to a DQ hard mode.

They developed 3 versions of the game in 2 years?! Horii is a freaking wizard, goddamn. That sounds ridiculously fast for an HD title. I just hope we don't see compromises in scale to compensate for that.

Well, they obviously failed at this, since we've heard several songs in DQ11 so far, including the ship theme, that are from previous games.

For the record... the hype for this game is real. Will be supporting it whenever it hits the West.

Does kinda pain me that the MC has zero personality or something. That's something I didn't like about DQ9 but then again.... it's self insertion...

That's every DQ game.

In the interview he said basically they are mostly new songs. A bit more than 37 songs or so. lol

I know, I know. Lol just kinda wish the MC(s) would have a little bit more substance. I remember that Stella was pretty much the entire voice for DQ9. It's a old school thing so it's not that big of a deal.

I did like seeing the world map on the 3DS screen. Seemed there were a lot of rivers and mountains to make the thing into a lot of "continents" despite it all looking so interconnected from afar. Game world looks bigger in that way than it did to me when I first saw the map.

Ok, so my impressions from playing the PS4 version for 15minutes.

You had a choice of two sections: The starting area with a bit more focus on story, or the desert area with the end goal of killing a big scorpion.

I picked the desert section as I wanted as little of the story spoiled for me as possible. The desert was big, but not too big. Nice draw distance and didn't notice any pop-in or framedrops during my play time. The characters movement felt great as the main character has a little bit of weight to his walk. Animations looked nice and nothing unnatural came up. I was actually surprised in my first battle. After about 20 seconds I accidentally moved the left joystick and my character moved. I had no idea it was set to free movement as default. It is really hard to tell since none of the other party members or enemies moved at all. I didn't care much for it so turned it off. I'm fairly sure the desert theme was an old song. The song is the desert town might be new... but not sure. Random unimportant NPCS look really great too and not low effort creations.

There is a camp scene in the desert with the other party members, and it looks fantastic. The camera compositions and the animation was wonderful. It was pretty much a cinematic cutscene with in-engine graphics. Was awesome~~~

But yeah, not much story which is what I wanted. PS4 version was great. Didn't get to test the 3DS version as I was not waiting another two-and-a-half hours to try it. I was number 364, arrived thirty minutes after the event opened at 10am and got to play just before 1pm.

Interesting it was ps4 only in the beginning
That completely throws out the theory that the PS4 version exists for the west doesn't it? I was already skeptical of that.

It really does feel like they tried to do a 3DS version that didn't feel less than though. I missed this stream unfortunately because I went out :(

Got home too late to see any of this live. I'll watch through it later. :/

This is quite a reversal of why some people thought it was a PS4/3DS game. Kinda funny but does line up with what Horii said a few times before it was announced.

The end result isn't bad for ~2 years of development.

This is funny because the 3DS version looks to be a more a finished product while the PS4 version is beautiful visually, it looks empty and lifeless.
