Phantom Dust |OT| Out of the ashes, into the Dust

I'm stuck in the campaign. The only mission available is against three sisters. Their name starts with a G. Can't seem to get past them.

I'm confused about deck building. I'm trying to build a deck and it keeps telling me I can't have more than two schools at a time. Does that mean I can't only make a deck consisting of two of the six card types?

Yup you gotta pick 2, although you can buy an arsenal at the shop that will let you pick 3.

I know they aren't exactly well liked here (and for good reason), but there's a guide that will give you recommended arsenal set-ups and tactics for every mission over at GameFAQ's.

Just google "Phantom Dust GameFAQ" and it will be the first of two listed on the guide page. Don't want to risk linking cause I'm not sure if they are a banned site or not.

Not the six types (attack, def, etc), but the School. The little symbols, one looks like an eye - that is one School. The plant is another School. The arsenal case you are using will only allow two School types. There are cases that are one or three type.

Keep changing up your deck. They can be tough so you need the right deck and a good pull order and strategy. That's what makes the game fun as it can get challenging and you have to rethink strategy.

Oof. Having to do missions to reload the single-player shop is painful.

That's so excellent, re: the top free game on Live.

Question: I'm playing on Chapter 4-5, and I'm noticing I'm sometimes taking damage without being attacked (and no sound effects indicating an ability is being used). This has happened several times now to the point where it's what kills me on a mission.

Anyone know what's causing it? I have a feeling it's just an ability I'm not familiar with, but it really seems weird.

Your not picking up all your cards right?

Cause if you run out of orbs to spawn, you start slowly dying, 1 HP at a time. Not only that, but the enemies can destroy your capsules as well if they have the right arsenal, so that could be it. It's one of the main tactics with an erase build.

Thanks, that's gotta be it. I've actually been gradually making a new deck from playing more, and it hasn't come up again. That strategy sounds horrifying, lol

It's one of the best parts of the game imo, as when done right you can win without ever actually attacking.

Very satisfying. Or underhanded, depending on who you ask.

Unrelated, but I just got to the "SHIT DUN GOT REAL" part of the single-player

A sequel is all but guaranteed now, right?

No, because the Store is underused. Look at the achievement stats and how many people are playing per day.

Those are the more important metrics to MS than "lol free game, sure I'll try it for five minutes and never buy the sequel" people.

What definitely hurts this game the most is the hub world, where you sometimes have to just randomly go talk to everyone. Back in the original release I literally had to make a checklist and manually check everyone to progress the game. They could have handled that part a lot better.

Gave the game a chance, after thinking the gameplay looked slow...

Its so engaging and fast. This game is good, even the story is great and not complicated.

A lovely surprise for sure, definitely recommend it.

Was playing today and was thinking the game could really use a practice/training room mode to experiment with skills and try out new Arsenals.

Well you have the bot battles against friends/leaderboard decks at least, don't know how many people know how to access that though

It looks like this is what Grounding and Futatusgi-san have been working on?

Grounding Introduces Beat Legion, the Secret Successor to Phantom Dust

Google has a cache.

One of the interesting things is, if you look at how people play mobile phone titles, they typically have short play sessions. So the nice thing about this is that each stage is only a couple of minutes long — we've fit the entire experience into a short time, with a challenge that seems to be pretty well-suited to cell phone users.

True, but I mean more from an information perspective. Phantom Dust has a lot in common with more traditional fighting games, so I'm thinking info like frame data could be really useful for arsenal building.

Welp. That's dissapointing.

A "try it" mode is definitely something I'd implement in a successor - just straight from the arsenal as you're customizing it, a shortcut to load into a map with the arsenal as-is, with pause menu options for editing it further, restarting and changing maps.

It'd also be helpful for players that just want to see how a specific skill feels in use, because that doesn't always come across in the card for it, or the accompanying video.

Bar the ability to switch maps, what you described is the exact way they did it in Soul Sacrifice Delta, and would be perfect for PD.

The more and more I play, the more I feel that game was definitely made by fans of this title.

Thanks for sharing. I would love if they released the pieces in high res of that last collage.

Yeah, I'm just glad we got some good achievement art rather than the normal drab offerings.

Are there strong feelings out there on etiquitte for waiting on a full 4-person room vs starting after ~30 seconds or so with 2-3 people? I was hosting, and I felt bad starting with fewer, but I also could tell people were impatient.

One thing I am getting sick of is the friends sitting in FFA lobbies and teaming up on me (by starting it as soon as I join). I make sure to check if they are friends and they always are.

Other than that, my 25 hours played has still been great!

Yup, the other thing I'm seeing is Tag Team lobbies where they are all in cahoots and your team mate either idles, jumps off the map repeatedly, or just runs up to the enemy.

Very annoying, and that's before getting into how the game handles quitting. Someone rage quits while I'm kicking ass and its a draw?

For tag team, I only start for a full lobby, while for Battle Royale I wait for at least 3, give it a minute, then start.

Seems to work best.

Sorry for the double post but the game was just updated. You can now set custom resolutions! Mine is rendering at 4k downsampled to 1080p! Also fullscreen is now an option too.

Anyone notice anything else different? Near and Far cameras were a thing in MP right? I never checked those options yet.

GREAT! So it downsamples natively? I think my laptop (GTX 970M) could get it to 1440p but the display is 1080p only.

Awesome! This was a big one for me.

Really good list of changes too, wonder what else we might get

Nice to see the support continue. They didn't just dump it and leave. Hopefully it gets enough attention for them to keep things going.
