Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

you're right it won't happen but this game already has a bigger roster and more modes then Street Fighter V ever did at launch, and that game had Sony's backing too
But to be fair to SFV, that game redid everything from zero in terms of the roster.

Am I the only one who cares more about the gameplay being fun than the roster?

No. But this is a VS game and half of the interest is going to be in what characters make it in. A good fighting game (mechanically) will be fun to play of course, but if your buyer base doesn't really care for the characters in the game things aren't going to magically work themselves out.

For any fighting game (especially a crossover one), it's a balancing act when it comes to characters. Really only new IPs can get away with certain things, since there are no prior expectations.
I personally buy MVC and the like for the capcom characters. So if the roster here is just stuff I have in MVC3, there's no rush to get this. It's the same thing with Smash as well.

But this is a VS game, expectations are different. And this one has the backing of a giant as well in Marvel

The expectation should have been that this game, with Marvel's blessings and Capcom's past transgressions (and them learning from mistakes), would have been a fighting game product that surpasses Marvel 3.

Right now this is looking like a step down from Marvel 3 in almost every way possible except that they are going to throw in a shoehorned story mode to tick some boxes on the back of the cover.

Yeah this is kind of how I see it. Maybe not as negatively. But after SFV and such. I figured they'd be going all out with having the Marvel IP on their side.

It will be even worse when you cant buy them with game money. In sfv i bought bunch of chars. Fuck with this locking content to dlc shit. All games are moving over from this overwatch, cod, gears etc etc. No way to obtain any dlc within game

Fuck off capcom

Why would they want to keep making you new content if you are not going to spend any money to warrant the development costs? or are you just unhappy other people are not subsidizing all your free content?

Learned some new details over the weekend. I'm going to try to keep it vague and not confirm any characters specifically to avoid ending up on Eventhubs or whatever.

- 28 character launch roster, I know all of them but 1 for sure and I think I might know who the last one is.
- No Ace Attorney, Viewtiful Joe, Final Fight or Okami characters. No Ms. Marvel, no X-Men or F4 to speak of.
- Of the remaining cast there's one returning MvC2 character, nine characters coming back from 3 (ten if the last character is who I think it is) and only four more newcomers.
- I know of one DLC character besides Sigma and he's coming back from MvC2, not sure if he's scheduled for this year or next year.

There's definitely some cool surprises left but I get the impression most people are going to be disappointed.

Well i'm curious about these cool surprises at least. Is there more single player content in this than we think there was?

SaikyoBro said Dahbomb isn't going to like the roster.

So, no Devil May Cry characters?
No, he was referring to my post about Wesker and multiple DMC characters.

I think we will get Dante in the base roster but no one else aside from that from DMC. Which is fine by me if the roster is small. But Capcom better not pull something like putting two GnG characters in LOL!

You're fine with DmC dante right?

That leak was bull shit a long time ago. Now he has even confirmed no Ms Marvel so it's like triple bull shit.
I know, but I figure things could have been swapped between the base game and DLC.

Upon further examination, I guess there's way too many newcomers on there in general.

I'm just happy we're getting another marvel vs Capcom game at all

I'm part of the problem :(
No. The guy who said he's got some problems with what's been shown but is still copping the $200 edition is part of the problem. Unless that describes you too.

There was no solid reason to believe either would be in to begin with beyond hopeful speculation.
Seeing as how this is going to be a reskinned mvc3, and how popular Phoenix wright is for Capcom, those are solid enough reasons to expect him.

And to be fair, before anyone knew how anaemic the roster was and how safe they'd go with the roster, Ms. Mahvel was a safe bet considering her non-mutant status and relative popularity.

So yeah, you're just playing devil's advocate because in hindsight, of course this turd of a company wouldn't do something intelligent for once.

This isn't a boring-ass Street Fighter game, tho. It's Marvel! Every MvC game up to this point has had a large, impressive roster (relative to when it came out). I was hoping we'd get 40 characters. Marvel and Capcom have so many lovable character that you simply can't make a crossover game with only 28 fighters and expect it to not be disappointing.

Really?

You guys are doing this shit to yourselves, man.

Foh with that shit. Expecting 40 chars in a reskinned game isn't crazy. If SNK can come back from the dead and make a PS2 looking game with 50 characters with new assets, Capcom can make an iOS looking game with 40 reused+new characters easy. That's the old Capcom though.

The new Capcom goes too hard on dlc character sales and waifu skins. Unfortunately with only 4 waifus now, Chun Lis going to get a Dead or Alive level dlc costume catalog

No Ace Attorney character? It's like one of the only active Capcom franchises that still around, lol. 28 character roster is a gigantic disappointment. I'd happily throw away story mode for ten more characters.

Eh, I had hopes for both. Phoenix is still popular, is hilarious in a fighting game, and Ace Attorney is one of Capcom's few remaining "active" series (which is...a different topic in of itself). Ms Marvel is a newer, popular Marvel character who would add diversity to the cast and should fit very well in a fighter (really, the only thing working against her is that she's not in the MCU and probably won't be for a while). In a ~40 character roster, they'd both have a shot.

In the end, I play Chris and Hulk in MvC3 so I'm covered regardless, but I will say the most disappointing thing here is that Ms Marvel isn't in and my hopes for a Breath of Fire character are essentially dashed (not that they had a strong chance in the first place, but I was emboldened by those MvC3 interviews mentioning Nina and Fou-Lu). I'll keep expectations in check and get excited for Star Lord and the possibility of Nemesis returning.

There are only four female characters?

wait so it's chun, morrigan, captain marvel and who?

"D"

I'm extremely insecure with how much f2p mobile games are encroaching on Nintendo
Do people not like the MCU or something?

Putting characters in from the MCU I guess feels more like a "cash grab" and safe choices to most people, instead of really utilizing their vast array of characters that haven't gotten any love or fan favorites outside of the MCU

SFV's cover was totally fine.

And while the image you posted is bland and generic it's still better than the hideous MvC3 vanilla cover. Still don't know what they were thinking with that one.

This cover is neat and it stands out.

Man this thread is has taken a turn into a world of negativity I myself have never known before. :p

That cover sucks. It's plain and boring. They could have done better. The 1st promotional image you show of the game becomes the cover. That's being lazy.
