Games you remember, names you don't

That looks closer graphically but it's definitely not it. The player character was a young looking samurai who was fighting demons. I think the cutscenes (really just a series of dialog boxes) took up a significant part of the videos I watched, and I distinctly remember being amused by the player character's portrait in those dialog boxes constantly looking angry/surprised.

I suppose anything's possible, but none of the videos of the various Shodowns I'm seeing on Youtube look like what I'm thinking of.

I think it might not have been localized and had a title that wasn't even translated on Wikipedia, which would explain why I didn't track it down when I first saw it.

are you certain it was on neo-geo console or arcade? Not any other arcade system?

I mayve asked this before,

There's a 16-bit RPG with a town in a volcano or something, and the lava rises and rises and eventually (I think) destroys the entire town.

I remember playing a car game in mega drive, the view was from the top, like micro machines, its not combat cars also, the cars looked like 3D especially doing the curves, i just cant find it!!

There's one my gf has been trying to work out for ages. It's an old pc game, possibly played in first person. There's Knights and a forest and shit. The bad guys were some green blobs l. Any ideas?

Sounds like an RPG (based on a few things, notably the idea of killing 'slimes' early on in the game). Was it?

I vaguely remember an old PC game with two kinds of gameplay. You played one level in a weaponized car, then the other level would be a 2D action sidescroller à la Contra.

I can't remember anything else about it, and now I'm wondering if I'm mixing up two different games. Damnit.

(There may be a few others, but that's the first and most significant that springs to mind)

Edit: Found some (EGA) DOS screens.

That was it! Looks like it wasn't a beatemup after all, which probably threw people off, and it's pretty obscure too. Thanks!

Well it may be obscure for the massess, but a good retrogamer would know it for sure. Neo Geo had many jewels, its not only Fatal Fury or KOF ;)

It's a pretty generic description if you consider that every single dungeon/rpg game on pc from that era have that setup/enemy.
I could say Might and Magic, Eye of the Beholder, The Quest and go on for another 20 titles (at least).

Yeah, I was recognising it was vague, I was just trying to find anything to latch onto to give us further insight.

Sounds like Paladin's Quest - although I think you're able to save a few buildings at the end.

I have vague recollection of a NES or maybe even SNES game where just before you fight one of the bosses they give you the option of joining them, if you pick yes you get a quick blurb detailing how you ra with the gang and eventually died. Dont recall anything else about the game.

Hey I've got a customer looking for a specific PS1 or PS2 RPG. I suspect he might be mashing up more than one game in his memory but here's what I've been told:

- Save file has Japanese(-looking?) characters on it
- Graphics not as good as SMT:Nocturne, so more likely PS1?
- Gameplay has hex-grid turn-based combat with a turn timer - he is confident it is NOT on an isometric square grid (a la FFTactics/Disgaea)
- He seems to remember overworld walking as well but doesn't sound as sure about that.
- Art may be vaguely anime-ish
- You switch between playing as a demon and a human, and the two races try to make nice by the end. This is something he seems pretty strong about so this is the one I suspect is most important
- He remembers there being a demon with curled horns on the cover but I imagine it could be on the title screen also.
- He thought the title might've been something like Dark Stone or Demon Stone but it's neither of those.

It is NOT:
- Diablo
- Disgaea: Hour of Darkness
- Demon Stone (Forgotten Realms)
- Dark Stone
- Daisenryaku VII
- Legend of Legaia
- The Unholy War

Most likely not:
- Brigandine
- Panzer General
- Allied General
??

Any help would be appreciated....

Wild guess here but, is it possibly Jade Cocoon 2?

Thanks for the suggestions.
I had a Master of Monsters set aside and showed it to him and he liked what he saw on the case but that was not it. I also suggested Jade Cocoon 2 but I don't think that was it.

I will probably see him again so if anyone can think of anything else, feel free to reply, but he's left for the time being. Thanks again!

I'll go with Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits. It doesn't fit with the hex.grid exacly but everything else is quite close.

This is the longest of shots, but I'll give it a go.

I was really young, maybe 5 or 6, but my cousin decided to bring over his PS1. There was one game I wanted to play all the time and I've never been able to find it.

So I seem to remember it was a vehicular combat game. We played split some kind of split screen Versus mode, and I'm pretty sure you either were on (or just were) some kind of futuristic bike that could shoot.

Weirdly I seem to remember it was first person view, but I can't be sure. I often wonder if I just made it up in my childish imagination and came to believe myself.

Edit: I also seem to remember a night level with a lot of leaves...

Apart from the obvious examples like Twisted Metal, Vigilante 8 and Quarantine, try these games:
Grudge Warriors
LEGO Racers
Red Asphalt
Rogue Trip: Vacation 2012
Crime Killer
S.C.A.R.S.
Auto Destruct
Impact Racing
CyberSpeed
Off-World Interceptor
ATV Racers
Dead in the Water

Man, I've had this game in my head for years and despite googling my description on several occasions, it never seems to pop up so I'm hoping one of you can help...

- Either on PC or Sinclair ZX Spectrum
- I think the game was made up of several mini-games, which included collecting drops of orangey liquid in a glass; controlling a tank in some grassland/green area; and an Arkanoid-style game.

Not much to go on but I hope it's sufficient.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Taking into account that he might be mixing stuff, im gonna try and use the story as a guide and think its either:

Grandia 2, the Main female lead would every now and then turn into a Demon girl who is a whole other person. (the two girls pictured below)

Breath of Fire IV, Every few chapters you get to use the guy in purple who can turn into a dragon just like the protaganist, but he seems to have his own agenda, probably bad guy? I barely remember since its been ages since ive played it.

BoFIVBox.png

Or maybe even Breath of Fire V considering the unique battle system.

A few games have done that, although the only one that springs to mind right now is Streets of Rage.

GAF, maybe you can help me out with this? I'm looking for a DOS PC game, potentially around the early/mid 90s, that I used to play a lot with my grandmother. Searching for it has come up with nothing tho.

Here's what I remember:
  • It was a casino game, set in Las Vegas.
  • Your character flew in on an airplane. After landing, your character could check into a hotel, and you got a key, room, and everything. At any time during the game, you could end it by going to the hotel/airport combo place and checking out.
  • The graphics quality was probably around that of Leisure Suit Larry 1-3.
  • It had some digitized voices in it.
  • Despite being a DOS game, we played it around the time of early Windows 95, suggesting it was on shelves up until them.
  • You could move your character left and right; it was a sidescroller. Going off the edge of the screen in either direction would take you to a new area.
  • It had the standard assortment of casino games in it to play, but the two I specifically remember were Texas Hold Em and Slots.
  • There was a magic show your character could see.
  • You could also go to the pawn shop and pawn a family heirloom off if you ran low on money.
  • It is NOT Trump Castle II; the graphics for this game weren't photo-realistic.

Any help would be appreciated. I don't remember how good the game was, but I'd like to relive the nostalgic and good memories I had playing it with her.

oh.

Could be Macross. There's 2 Macross arcade games from 1992 and 1993, vertical and horizontal scrolling respectively.
Both feature anime cutscenes.

Man, I completely forgot that I posted in this thread, but I think it's the Macross game from 92. My recollection is really hazy, but this is the closest match I've found so far. Thanks!

Ok. This is my third time posting this, please help me find it.

Before I start, I must say that my memory could be mixing a couple of games together.

What I'm sure is in the game:

-The game is on PS1

-Japanese

-A boss where you swat flys like in Mario paint from a cake or a sandwich

What I'm not sure about:

-Three players, two guys and one girl.

-RPG system in the same style as Mario RPG on the SNES. ( not the graphics through )

-2D

-Starts with a cartoon cutscene

-There is a "couch potato monster" that attacks by farting at you.

-In the starting cutscene, one of the guys is sitting on a tree branch and when he gets up he hit his head on the upper branch.

Please Neogaf. Help me find this game.

theres a game i owned on ps2. it was a first person shooter, took place on a space station or mars. (NOT RED FACTION). you play as basic male protagonist. i think the title might have had a word like hunter, warrior, mercenary, something like that.

i can only vaguely remember like the first area of the game in the space station, heading up a set of stairs and killing like 3 guys on the upper level. i'm sorry my description sucks i just haven't seen anything from the game in like 10+ years

When you say Japanese, do you mean it was made in Japan, or that it was a Japanese exclusive?

Some of those things sound familiar, but I just can't place them, sorry.

Okay, this one's kind of a long shot. Does anyone happen to know of a list shareware games available on AOL from back in the late-ish 90s? I specifically remember Enchantasy: Quest for the Eternal Grimoire that has stuck in my mind since I was a kid but there was also one that I think was possibly a Japanese RPG that had (and it's weird that I specifically remember this) a bit where you have to retrieve an awl from some cabin in the woods. I thought awl was a funny word when I was a kid.

Then there was another one that was kind of trippy that was I think a puzzle game where you're trapped in a castle and you're bald and there's weird shit everywhere. You had to go from room to room solving puzzles and evading monsters to escape. I think it had an isometric camera angle.

Try Blam! Machinehead or Forsaken. More likely the latter, I don't think the former had multi.
