Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers |OT| Retro Salt At Twice The Price!

I pretty much 'learned' to deal with the shitiness of the Pro Controller's D-Pad after playing all day, yesterday.

In the end I was nailing air Hadoken and Raging Demon with Akuma without issues most of the time. But yeah, Pro Controller D-Pad is shit.

I am not seeing these issues. Maybe you should contact nintendo for a replacement? It seems like people are calling the pro controller dpad shit because they read it on the internet.

Like I said if you press the button only when you want to be pressing the button there's no issue. If you mash your thumb all over the pad you are going to get the random inputs.

Diagonal inputs are not accurate enough to play a game like SF2 at a competitive level. I am doing better with the joycons D-buttons. Otherwise it's a nice gamepad.

What diagonals are you missing? I don't own the game yet but there's no issue doing fireball motions in the neo Geo games. Super turbo isn't a crazy execution heavy game either. Tight timing on some things but no weird inputs.

I need to press back or forward before sliding to down or up to lock a diagonal input. If I press up forward for instance I sometimes get a neutral jump. Do not happen with the joycons.

USF2 is more lenient on inputs than 2X which actually requires very precise execution, a lot more precise than modern games.

I think it's accurate to state the online in this game is garbage!

I would be fine with paying out for this game and it having decent netcode bit the netcode belongs back in 2002 not 2017

So much input delay makes reacting to stuff impossible, I've seen players with 4000BP just spam lp dragon punch as punishing it is damn near impossible online

Very disappointing, street fighter 2 deserves better than this, why they didn't implement ggpo is anyone's guess, hdr had it.

I doubt the game will recieve a single patch post release either, capcom will just take the money and run.

Not strictly related to this game, but has there ever been a "good" version of Akuma? It seems when making clone characters, they take good people like Ryu and Ken and evil them up. But has it gone the other way?

Canonically, no. Wasn't he supposed to be a bit more chill in 3S though?

So I've had this game since Friday but finally got to boot it today. I really like it! But then, I've had this game since 1992 so i guess this was the only real outcome. Only missing the option for faster speeds.

I thought I'd like the old school visuals, but they look an ugly, blocky mess so I'm switching back.

I'm not experiencing that at all, the only time I have input delay like you describe is when playing against someone in another country. Most of my online play has been great.

I'm considering to buy one of those 8bitdo controllers for this game, they seem to be great and pretty famous.

How good are they actually, mostly regarding build quality and input lag?

How is the D-pad compared to the Switch Pro controller?

Does it feel the same on all 8bitdo controllers or is there some significant differences on some models?

Also I can't decide which one to get between FC30 Pro, and SFC30/SNES30.
Is there more like 6 buttons on each? I'd really need at least 8 buttons so I can map the Light + Medium + Fierce Punch/Kick shortcuts which are quite useful for some USFII characters.

Had a great online experience with this game last night. Battled against one person for about an hour. Back and forth wins/losses with some real competitive matches (and some where we each got trounced, lol) and no lag. This game may be my favorite Switch game thus far and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon!

Funny. I was considering this when I actually saw that Capcom put the same game on sale for ps3. For R$ 5,99 here in Brazil (2 USD)

While Nintendo is charging 399,99 R$ for the Switch version (140 USD)

This is nuts. I'll support Monster Hunter. Not this Capcom. Go home Capcom and be a family man

Input lag is almost none
And build quality feel is amazing BUT

Tbh the snes30 is not a lot better.
The dpad has troubles too.

I have 2 brand new ones and some moves are a bitch to pull off but everyone in this thread seems bananas on it.

Sometimes a simple charge gives me problems.
Or a hadoken.
Its not doing it great 25 out of 25 times.
Maybe i need to break in the dpad for it to get looser.

I am a pro on the vita with sf3.
Best dpad ever 😍😍

I played at least 40-50 Ranked Matches and the only lag I experienced was on two instances with international players with bad connections. I guess you were just really unlucky that day.

The other matches were pretty much flawless AFAIK.

B00_thegh0st explained the problem, the D-pad makes it almost impossible to use charge characters like Bison or Guile to me, most of the time the controller will detect an accidental up or down while I go from back to forward. I brought it up in many threads and I'm not sure if people actually got a replacement for this or if it's just a design issue, I just ended up assuming it's the latter.

I have those issues with the pro controller d-pad. I even took it into the store and swapped it for a new one, but I have the same issue.

I've been playing street fighter on a pad (and on arcade stick) for more than 20 years. I've played with all sorts of pads and I can't think of a single d-pad that was less reliable. Even the crummy third party ones you'd get stuck with.
The problem, I think, comes from the fact that the centre of the d-pad is not pivoting on a piece of plastic. Instead the entire d-pad can be pushed in at once like a giant button (try this even with the wiiU pro controller, push the center in and you will feel a central fulcrum that the d-pad pivots on. It's not present on the switch pro controller). This is not generally a problem if you are doing quarter circle motions around the edge of the pad, like with a fireball. But when you are charging a sonic boom by holding left, and then quickly rolling your thumb directly to the right like you would with any other normal d-pad, you sometimes push the d-pad in, and you then get a random UP input. Completely screwing you in the process. This is not normal d-pad behaviour. It also will often jump straight up instead of at an angle.

It's a shame because everything else about the pro controller is beautiful.

Sadly I'm currently struggling through using the tiny joycon analogue stick of all things. Which is really ass, but slightly more reliable than the d-pad on the pro controller.

I'm still really enjoying the game, and my Deejay is currently ranked 3rd in the world (not much competition I think), but the enjoyment is more often than not hampered by shitty controls. When my 8bitdo controller shows up, I'm hoping that will be more of a normal street fighter experience.

Only thing about using a pad right now is it gives me a handicap online, makes it fair for people. Finally played for about an hour last night and got a quick grind to 1000 pp. People stopped playing games against me in lobbies. :(. Good to see some of my buddies in the top 30 on leaderboard though.

It is shit and a huge disappointment.
Hopefully if the ever release a Joycon with a d-pad they will go with the 3DS kind.
The Switch Pro one is wonky and too many people have the same problems for it to be just a bad batch.

Pro Controller is working perfectly for me, so I can also say a lot of people can't manipulate it properly (= pushing the whole pad instead of one direction). Works both way.
Trying to establish facts with hearsay will lead nowhere.

It's not the same game. You think it is, or you want to think it is, but it is not. I'm getting tired of reading this.

Edit: I can agree with the fact that some people find the two products too similar. They are very similar, but not identical.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who has troubles with the Switch controls.
Game is fun, having lots of fun throwing Plasma out with Sagat.
The Violent Ken command dash shenanigans are extremely annoying though.

Doopliss Evil Ryu and Violent Ken Combo Video. While not everything is practical, there is some stuff that is good to know.

Found out that if Evil Ryu hits a jump in on a standing opponent he can get a guaranteed stun when close enough.
He also has a cross up jump HK, which can also lead to a stun combo on hit. Especially on crouching opponents.

I never had a problem with a Nintendo d-pad before this one.

Just picked up a Pro Controller so I don't have to take the joycons out when docked. It isn't the best D pad, but better than the lil analog nub sticks or the face button d-pad. Iguess for now I'll be using this...until my SNES 8 Bitdo ones arrive. I wish they made a Saturn or Genesis one . That would be the ultimate.

Let us know how your snes controller works out. I went back to my pro controller. Finding I can do special moves very quickly on the pro.

Well, I'll have to use the Pro until then...but anything is better than the analog stick. It's fine for those fun casual moments at a party between two people, but it really leave you wanting a d pad. My Bitdo ones should arrive Saturday.

As I expected, the controls are what is holding this back more than the price.

It really sucks that Nintendo killed the dpad on the Switch in order to have "two controllers" out of the box. If I had to guess, their first 2D platformer will come with a left joycon that has a proper dpad. If not, then before that.

No it does not. The joycon d-pad does its job a lot better than what was expected. And being able to play 4p Bomberman on an undocked Switch with 2 pairs of joycons is so nice. Give the pad a chance, it's a lot more salvageable than I expected it to be.

Honestly the buttons aren't that bad for a platformer, not ideal for sure, but manageable.

For a fighting game like SF2 it's a real nightmare all the way though. When playing in portable mode I use the Joystick instead or my thumb will be fucked in no time. :lol

Yeah the thinner dpad that most of us 90's SF2 players are used to is long gone. Along with muscle memory. So...Embrace the pro! It's really good with 10+ hours of breaking it in. Also the Pro's face buttons are amazingly precise and responsive.

I like the buttons on the Pro, but for some reason my d pad hardly registers jumping forward or back. I keep on jumping up instead.

I don't remember this happening on the first day.

I enjoyed street fighter 2 on my snes.

Ouch, sorry to hear that dude. That would drive me crazy too. Have you tried the Hori Pad (wired Switch controller)?

It actually seems to have gotten better. Maybe it just had to break in a little. Got my SNES. 8bitdo ones. They seem to be pretty good.

The Hori Pad is out?

Played this every day since I picked it up last weekend. I was a massive fan of Street Fighter II back in the day, and the reveal trailer for this edition that included the tag line 'the SNES was our battleground' hooked me in.

If anyone wants a virtual punchbag, please add me. I'm in the UK and my friend code is SW-1454-826-6999.

Didn't he smash a submarine in two as part of his ending? (or was that Q?). If that's him being more chill then getting him angry is a scary prospect!

Anyway, I ended up caving and picking up the game after borrowing it off a friend. I was concerned about controls but can land 90% of moves just fine with the analogue stick. Its not perfect if I want to use Guile (can't do his super) but otherwise it works just fine. Seems like a great portable Street Fighter which will be perfect for those periods of time when I fancy a quick game of SF. What I'd give for a Switch port of Alpha 3 next...

How does the original 4:3 mode look in this game? I disliked the udon hd remix art when it first came out and I've grown to dislike it even more as time's passed so I won't be playing much in that mode. I read that it has no filtering options of any sort but I was wondering if it looks good enough without any enhancements.

video not good enough to judge for yourself?

Not sick of it yet and have gotten my moneys worth for sure. Will need to take a break eventually as between this and Injustice 2 my thumb is not in great condition lol.

When playing with classic graphics, I only get the side borders with half the Switch box art and...some kind of instruction poster. There's no way to switch it like the themes in the menus? Maybe I just can't find it.

In replays, it shows the ultra SFII titles like in the pic of choosing the graphics.

Been playing this for a few days now. I haven't played online yet cause I'm working my way through arcade from Normal difficulty to World Warrior. I'm currently on World Warrior and getting my ass handed to me, though I'll continue to push through. I'll take my lumps to make myself better :)

I tried using the Joycons just to see how it is in case I want to play in portable mode and there's no way I can do it with no proper dpad. I really hope Nintendo eventually releases a joycon with a dpad. It so desperately needs it. I'm currently using the 8bitdo SNES controller and it's been great. The dpad needed to be broken in, but it's pretty much there now with me playing this.

It's been so long since I've played SF2. I'm having a blast revisiting it.
