You make a good point, there are definitely things that can be compromised in the name of choice.

Though there have been cases where it isn't story related and negatively impacted the "game", for instance in Mario Maker Nintendo decided to speed up the rate of new tool unlocks, which arguably led to a lack of focus in user generated content as players were overwhelmed with a toybox of tools.

Yeah I think anything that effects controls/graphical effects and camera, the more player choice the better.

Anything else can be closely curated by the developers to see through their vision in my opinion. It's not changing the content of the meal just how you eat it lol.

I just hope they don't try and change too much. It feels like one of those games that focus group wise there would be lots people want to change... but then would it still be the same game?

I'm definitely in the more of the same group with just a story that advances the main narrative along from the first game/DLC.

I liked the beginning of the game. Hopefully they got rid off the crappy engine and be more like the first third of the game.

All of this.

The constant one-hit kills were the worst part of the game for me, plus when the game turns into a shootbang in the final chapters.

Hey everyone, this is Dusk Golem aka AestheticGamer. I have posted on NeoGAF since 2011, and have decided to resign. I have enjoyed posting about horror games here for years, but I no longer wish to support the site and will be leaving for good. I will still be around the internet, I go by AestheticGamer on YouTube, I make games on Steam as Yai Gameworks, and I plan to go by Dusk Golem on other forums. I'll be joining an off-set of the GAF community leaving to try other ventures like ResetEra (Official Twitter for that here: https://twitter.com/reseteraforum ). I hope some of you who read this may consider it, and I plan to try to expose more people to horror games in the years to come. Just not here.

I hope you all are having a good day, and know I always loved the community, and in the end it's the community I'm going to stick with, not the site itself. If you want to follow me, my official Twitter is here: https://twitter.com/AestheticGamer1

I'm so fucking happy that this is happening. I hope that they streamline the story and make it less convoluted. I hope that there are significant improvements to melee, animations and cover system. I'd like to see them also limit the number of times control is seized from the player but enemies are allowed to swarm in... That was annoying to me.

I wish I could get hyped for this, I love horror games.

Should I give the first one another chance? Ive tried to play it twice, both times I got to chapter 3 I think. You have to sneak around a town full of bad guys and open a gate for a doctor or something. I just kept getting wrecked and stopped both times.

Tango Gameworks updated their website for the first time in a year just yesterday with a private password-protected page you can't access yet, and The Evil Within is today's Steam Daily Deal five days before Bethesda's E3 conference.

Call me suspicious.

This pleases me

Maybe the password is simple.
I remember when someone got into the persona 5 website, the password was persona5 or something.

If it's more like the early game and less like everything else, that'd be great. And please, less teleporting to different levels. I'd like more coherence to the level flow and design.

I haven't finished the game yet, maybe I should go back to it.

If a sequel is going to be announced, hopefully it fixes some of the issues that the first game had.

The Evil Within is still the best survival action horror game since RE4 in my opinion. It fell off the end but so did RE4 and REVII so it evens out. Can't wait for all the press conferences!!!

Stealth needs a major overhaul. It never felt natural when sneaking at one speed. Feels frustrating when you want to move a bit faster when needed but can not.

- Don't sell one of the main story components as DLC (the Kidman DLC), include it in the main game.
Generally, I would agree but when your plot ends up being predictable and the reveals confirmed what you suspected and that's all there is to it...it's a bit of a bummer.

Can I comment on the fact that I was shocked Jackie Earl Haley was in this game when the credits rolled?

I hope they use some classical music to reveal the game again.

Stage goes dark during the Bethesda conference. Screens are all black. Silence hangs in the air for a solid ten seconds.

Clair de Lune starts playing.

From far off in the distance, people around the world can hear me screaming.

Fix the controls and instant death mechanics and I'll give the sequel a chance.

- And the camera
- And the gun combat
- And the leveling system
- And the Aiming
- And the god awful story and plot
- and the engine that was BUILT to run at a solid 60 FPS but was mauled to death by the devs for some reason to run terribly and at barely 30

Fuck if they showed an Evil Within 2 and a Dead Space 4 that's a return to form, I'd be so fucking ecstatic!

Haha wow.

I definitely agree with the aiming too since maybe it's just me, but ive had situations where I miss an enemy at point blank range with the shotgun.

Compared to RE4, it was a massive step down.

I would love for a sequel to come out. i really liked the first game once I got the groove for the combat. It was too bad that the performance issues tanked the game hard. I hope they will do beter with this one and the game can shine. Mikami deserves a second chance

I seriously can't wait for this. One of my most hyped up games for e3. I really hope Sebastian and Kidman are back and they managed to keep the same voice actors: Anson Mount and Jennifer Carpenter. I enjoyed the gameplay, the story and the way it was told, and intensity presented in both the horror and more action-based segments. I think they did an outstanding job overall and hope they can accomplish the same and more with the new one.

I loved the first game right up until chapter 11, at which point the quality took a massive nosedive, but I'm still interested in a sequel.

Now that the Dead Space series has been murdered by a tag-team of Dead Space 3 and Star Wars, and Resident Evil has gone first-person, there's almost no competition in the 3rd person survival horror/action genre. That itch needs scratching.

It definitely didn't have constant OHKs unless you played on Akumu.

Uh.....no, it was VERY far from the quality of re4. Hopefully the sequel doesn't play incredibly janky.

Yeah, RE4 is so far behind that it hopes to be as good as TEW.

Laura, faux Ruvik, the aquatic creature in chapter 11 I believe it was all perform one hit kills. I mean I don't think any of them are an annoyance really at the lesser difficulties except Laura but they were tolerable.

Edit: the Boxman was a one hot kill as well depending on the context. If you were caught in his traps, you were a goner.

But you aren't fighting those constantly. I am not arguing that the game didn't have OHKs but that they aren't constant.

I wouldn't say they were constant, as it's a pretty long game, but it had more than enough to make them irritating. I haven't played it since launch but IIRC some of them gave you almost no chance so ended up just being tedious exercises in trial and error.

The one that stuck in my mind was that atrocious stealth section during the final boss fight, it was just so irritating and destroyed what little momentum remained. It was like they went out of their way to annoy me in that final section:

- Re-fight previous bosses (x2)
- Dull arena with waves of enemies
- Forced stealth section
- Turret fight

I don't know what they were thinking. Like I said, I'll still play the sequel based on how good the first 2/3rds of the game was.
