No they think it won't be a success with that extra cost much like the PS3 originally.

So do these people want to play Xbox games at the best quality possible or are they shareholders inspecting spreadsheets hoping for a dividend payout?

So, let me get this straight...

people in here actually think that

- 10% more CPU Power
- 50% more GPU Power
- 50% more RAM
- 50% more Bandwidth
- UHD Blu-ray instead of a regular Drive

in comparison to a PS4 Pro will come at no extra cost whatsoever?

The top two come from an APU that is about the same size as the pro at the same process size. The only real cost impact is the 50% more ram and more complex motherboard for the faster/wider bus.

People have mentioned ram prices firming up over the last year so maybe that forces their hand but $100 seems too much

In order for scorpio to be successful it has to convince PS4 owners to swap ecosystem. A $499 console won't do that. First time buyers with or without 4k tv's might be turned off. The only people deffo buying rhe console are XBox one owners. Its self defeating. If Sony price drop on scorpio launch they will clean up.

One thing has become clear over the last few days...

A lot of people have made this console a lot of things that it is not. If you are disappointed you only have yourself to blame.

Nah it's the savior of Microsoft and will vanquish the lead that Sony has. That is what Scorpio is supposed to be. A high end expensive device that is also going to sell more than the cheaper PS4.

The writing was on the wall since its announcement.

MS always said this was a premium device that comes at a premium price.

not to throw shade at anyone but this is for people with disposable income, not for the masses and not for those looking in the bargain bin for $19.99 games.

At this time the only persons that know the Scorpio price are Nadella and Spencer. And neither one will tell anybody else, that is on lockdown. It's all a ruse to get that magical moment, which was starting to go away with everybody thinking that 399 is the expected price for what it is. Then, two days before E3, suddenly everyone goes up. 449. No. 499. Come on, don't fall for this crap. Or do and be surprised when it is not like so. $349. Why $349, you ask? Well, that was the price the original Xbox One was designed for. Then they added a Kinect to every SKU. 499 or 449 will result in "they did everything so well and then they screwed it all up" mindshare. This is the year of dreams, they will do everything right. 349.

I guess if you look at this as a premium console iteration on an already successful product launch this makes sense, but Microsoft has been selling this as a relaunch and fans have been talking about this as something to steal back market share. I don't think this does it.

You know the Pro has been out for a year at that point, right

It's like people forgot the Xbox one launched at $499 and still sold close to 1 million consoles its opening month in the US. That was also with being a weaker console to the competition. Now it's the strongest. I don't really see the problem, even though I hoped for Scorpio to be $399 myself.

I don't understand the logic of Microsoft asking him to say $499.

I also, don't get why he'd leak that info so close to reveal.

Something seems odd about this.

If it's $499 (it's not) this thing is completely dead in the UK

The original XB1 was that price (£430) and they had to bundle free FIFA at launch with just about every console, and it received a price cut to £399 within like 2 months, then it was available pretty widely for £350 (same price as PS4 with kinect) around the time Titanfall came out

.

BS, they said it is going to be a premium device but the price delta between One S and Scorpio will be that of devices of the same family. Premium price is what people took from it being a premium device.

Damn, not even the hardcore fan base on reddit is defending for this.

Ugly,ugly choice from Microsoft.

Not shocking, but it's definitely not going to make Sony sweat. It's going to be DOA considering the mixed messages around this console. It's not a new console generation but they are asking new generation money for it. I also don't see why the average joe will pay double the amount of money for it over the regular XO. I think MS is really overestimating the amount of console owners who want enthusiastic level hardware. Most of these people have probably already bought or built a gaming PC.

To be fair, we'd like to think that Geoff Keighley wouldn't be making such a weighty claim in public without some sort of official confirmation from Microsoft.

I refuse to believe that they need to "test the waters" and "gauge reaction" for a $500 price tag. They have to know it's going to cause a negative reaction without needing any testing.

The thing is, Geoff is the one guy in media that knows about mostly anything these companies do before hand and he never leaks anything.

To me, MS either pulled a House of Cards here and let him leak this one a little bit ahead of time because they knew people would react negatively and that would be the aftermath of their conference, leaking it before gives people sometime to digest the idea.

Or they are really going for the "OMG MS, we thought it was going to be 499, so generousss".

Seriously, Geoff never leaks stuff.

The hype guy is trying to kill the hype before the show ?

Good one MS

It will make the 399 price reveal feel more more significant than it it should be lol.

People in this thread really believe MS would collude with Geoff (putting his name on the line) to throw people off. And create a negative narrative 6 hours before their presentation?

Hand in your tinfoil hats.

He's just trying to raise the price expectations so that when Microsoft announces it, it'll seem cheaper thus a more positive response. To be honest, $399 is already a positive announcement.

I'm expecting a Pro price drop at Sony's conference. That could be the nail in the coffin.

Please prove me wrong and sell this beast for $399.99 and I'm in.

Given the specs, it's a decent price, but in reality, it's not a mass market price. People who actually care about this level of performance are PC gamers who are absolutely going to go for a new 4k capable graphics card instead. People who care about 4k, don't own a PC, and want a console doing 4k is a very small market. PS4 Pro is much more within reach for most and a better proposition for what results you get. I'll be paying attention to the presentation today because I would love for them to change my mind. I have a 4k TV and want to see if it's worth taking advantage of yet.
