Geoff Keighley: Scorpio rumored to cost $499 (he's right, flawless victory)

Ehhh guys don't you know Geoff? Of course he is making a false statement. He's a merc, doing this purposely, creating speculation so MS can strike with a 399. And then he will tweet. "whoops, I was wrong MS is our true saviour". Cash the check to Phill and go home.

DOA if true. I cannot believe MS would be that stupid.

It's not DOA because it was never positioned to pick up the slack of the Xbox. They don't expect this thing to explode onto the market and neither should you. It's about taking control of a message that's no longer relevant. They want to prolong this gen as long as possible, without giving away their last share.

if this thing is the powerhouse gaf and everyone makes it out to be not surprised

People really thought this would be 399 or lower are hilarious. I knew they would price themselves higher ( if this is even true).

Studies have been done on the inability of doomsday cults to admit they were wrong when the day of judgement comes and goes with nothing happenings. Those same scientists would have a field day in this thread.

XB1 was $499 despite being weaker, Scorpio being $499 would actually make sense. It's the most powerful console. I do believe this is just to gauge interest though and the console will be $399.

It was $499 because it included Kinect. Without Kinect it was $399.99.

I firmly believe their will be a $399 SKU and a $499 SKU. This also gives Geoff an out. (His informant was aware of multiple SKU's)

Get the "bad" news out of the way. If it has enough compelling games and looks good, the impact could easily be lessened.

Let's face it, everyone was going in expecting $399, so no matter what they do if they said $499 by themselves -- this would've been the only talking point. Kinda smart tbh.

I personally don't find the price to be that bad.

A regular Xbox one can play all those good games though. Which is still a win obviously as you are buying into their ecosystem. But still they obviously are pushing Scorpio insanely hard compared to Sony and the pro

I want the cheapest product consumers aren't going to buy the Pro or the Scorpio. The customers that want the most powerful console and don't care about price will buy the Scorpio. GAF seems to be filled with people who want the most powerful console, but only if it costs the same as the competitions less powerful premium console. This is a niche market, and I don't think Consumers in this niche are as price sensitive as at the bottom.

Both Pro and Scorpio were always going to be niche. If they want to make a bigger dent in the market, they would try their hardest to get Xbox One S to 199$.

Pro was fine being niche as OG PS4 is still killing it.

Scorpio seems pointless then for MS unless they're just content with adding a few hardcore customers.

Is this not what was expected? It's supposed to be way more powerful than the PS4 Pro, so why would it be priced the same?
I'm sure they're already taking a loss at $499.

One other reason why this would leak now, if this is considered "bad news" (and based on the mixed response here, I think it is) they would rather that come out now to soften the blow during the conference itself.

Didn't they say it will be a premium product? Then $499 seems to be in line with how they market it. I would be pleasantly surprised if it is lower than that.

Why do people think the premium Xbox console will have multiple sku's? $399 premium console $499 premium premium console!. Get a grip people. One sku one price.

The PS4Pro is $399...

Microsoft has to pay for a +UHD player + More Memory + Secret Sauce CPU + Bigger custom GPU + Custom Cooling....

Stop. Microsoft wants Scorpio to sell.

$500 wouldn't be niche. It would be a disaster.
Scorpio wouldn't sell much more than the Pro even at $400. It's a niche console even at that price. It's aimed at enthusiasts, not the general public, no matter how hard MS is pushing it.

It's the zen/jaguar debate all over again. Prepare for the disappointment folks. EVERYTHING points to 499 except your own hopes and dreams

After DF piece I knew it was going to be 500. Honestly, I don't think it makes much of a difference for this product anyway, it's not going to sell much if Pro is any indication and they likely don't have much stock to sell this year at launch, might as well milk those early buyers and '4k' enthusiasts. for that market the price is still very reasonable. Next year maybe it goes down to $400, if there is a functioning xbox brand left at that point. Either way I don't think this product could change fate of xbox much.

Question: Why would Geoff leak something in the first place? Like what is the benefit as someone grooming himself as some nice guy darling of the game industry to leak something that Microsoft hadn't given him expesss permission to?
