Geoff Keighley: Scorpio rumored to cost $499 (he's right, flawless victory)

Can't believe all the people scoffing at $499.

Tons of people think the PS4 pro is worth it at $399 and it's a kind of a joke of an upgrade. I bought a PS4 pro, but I'll happily pay $100 more than that thing for a significantly more powerful machine.

Maybe if the PS4 pro had a UHD player. Based on current market prices for UHD players, that drive alone is worth the price difference.

If the PS4 Pro seems great at $400 and $500 is obscene for a much moire powerful machine with a UHD drive, then this clearly isn't for you. Then again, it's Microsoft, they can't seem to win around here.

The average consumer doesn't look at consoles as first place or second place machines. That's what fanboys think like. The average consumer will simply ask for the most powerful console. Which will be the Scorpio.

Average consumers will just want the cheapest price if it plays the same games.

Guys, the price is $499 and that is what has been rehearsed.

There is honestly no reason to let this leak.

Why is someone so "respected" willing to risk it all with a leak like this for internet fame? It's career suicide as he looses all trust and integrity.

Why would Microsoft market like this ? It's amateurish and a cheap shot.

I'm stumped it makes zero sense from both parties.

He either got the OK to leak the price or is being played for marketing.

Here are the scenarios at play here:

1. Geoff is in cahoots with Microsoft and they asked him to leak the $499 price so when they announced it for $399 it has a greater impact.

2. The price is actually $499 and Geoff's leak is accurate.

3. Geoff heard from somewhere that it is $499, but he's just wrong and it's $399.

If Geoff wasn't 100% sure of it and checked out the rumor he wouldn't have posted it with the chance of hurting his credibility. So he's either in cahoots with MS or he's right

disclaimer, not a xbox fanboy nor will I be buying a Scorpio at any price..or a pro for that matter.

I don't understand why or how... $499 is too much? I see these reactions everywhere, but is Scorpio not positioned to be the "best" or a luxury box? I am really confused.

People that want the best console tech will likely have no issue paying that price. 500USd is objectively not much money in the frame of "best". If you can't or don't want to pay that much... you can play on normal Xbox..or I guess save up for it.

From the reactions here...Microsoft has to build a lot of value to justify that price(if real) though ,so we will see how they do. Should be interesting.

Am I the only person on this forum who thinks that $499 is a reasonable price for what we're presumably getting?

I guarantee that it will sell just fine to early adopters at $499, and then when that market is saturated they'll drop the price to appeal to a broader base.

I suppose I'm just accustomed to the idea of paying a premium price for a premium product, whether it's a nice car, an OLED TV, a MacBook, a GTX 1080, or a console. Yes, I would be nice to get a lot for a little, but I'm not going to be angry at a company because they won't take a loss on the product I want.

It's a reasonable price for the hardware but the market for it is too small at that price.

I would never buy a jaguar powered console at $500

But since it's $499 and I don't pay sales tax, I'll buy

It seems like a fair price with everything in it... so far

Sorry, that's not how it works. Average consumers don't think about teraflops. They want to play their games on the machine where their friends are, whether it's xbone or ps4.

This is one of the most hilarious posts I've read all year. Thank you.

It's better to be lied to by a corporation than to accept that said corporation is willing to sell a product at a higher price than you'd like.

OK.

Geoff needs access for his long digital pieces and for MS to participate in his awards show. Why would he go and leak this quite possibly the most anticipated part of the Scorpio full reveal?

Why would they need to rehearse a price point portion? I mean, if you cant remember a price when giving a presentation, you should not be in this business.

I was going to ask the same thing....Why would you actually say/show the price. Especially in the very leaky gaming world!

I mean I'm sure theres a market for this but if we're talking about something like 20% of XB1's sales similar to PS4 its not gonna be much of a market even after a few years. It'd take them 2-3 years to match the current PS4 Pro market at that speed. I believe this estimate is optimistic too.

I'm expecting MS is expecting a lot of rebuy. They are banking this system on rebuys.

499$ might be fair for the FLOPS you're getting, but it's too much if Microsoft has any hopes of grabbing back lost marketshare.

XBONE sharing their exclusives with W10 cuts list of exclusive things I'm remotely interested in down to:

Xbox One exclusive:

Forza 5 (I like the series, but can get my carporn fix elsewhere)
Rare Replay (I already played them, but it would be nice to try the "definitive" versions)
Sunset Overdrive (I like Insomniac's previous games so I want to give it a try)
Dance Central: Spotlight (I would have to get a XBONE Kinect though...)
Xbox Fitness (Could be interesting to try, but I doubt I'd find it engaging enough to stick with it, also Kinect)

Xbox Family Exclusives (I have a 360, but I would prefer the XBONE versions)
Fantasia: Music Evolved
Forza Horizon 2
Zoo Tycoon (Looks like my brand of stupid, slightly interesting)

I do realize I could grab the cheaper base XBONE, but I'd rather wait for the Scorpio experience since I've done without one so far.

And yes, the exclusive situation is not amazing on other platforms either, but they have other things going for them.
