If Scorpio is $499, then it will likely flop in sales.
It would simply be another mistake by Microsoft in the middle of a bunch of other mistakes.

Oh thanks

Hmm, none of them immediately jump out at me

If they were selling this as a brand new console then I'd be inclined to say Xbox Two, but it seems this is a premium option of the extant Xbox One brand, so maybe Xbox One X? And people would call it 'the X'. Xbox 10 doesn't make much sense, and Xbox Scorpio deviates from numbers all together and reads too much like a working title.

$500 base seems quite a tough sell. Here's what I think it could potentially be:

Scorpio Base: $400-$450 - 1TB HDD w/ regular controller
Scorpio Elite: $500 - 2TB SSHD w/ elite controller & 1 year of XBL Gold

Not placing any bets on that seeing as lne SKU for this does seem more likely than two but we'll just have to wait and see. Not long now!

$499 with and Elite controller would make sense as it would be a premium machine with a premium controller that says premium price. Just a thought tho and I know others have said it too.

I wasn't going to stay up to watch the show but I want to see the audience's reaction when this is announced. It will make great meme material.

I want to see the expression on the so call Xbox messiah's face.

Wouldn't start just mean the price it launches at, and that it could have a price drop down the line?
That is exactly what will happen and it is perplexing how so many people can't see it. There is no way MS would release a premium version of an already existing product at a sale price. It would devalue the entire line. They'll milk as much money out of $499 as they can...and people will pay...then drop the price for a sale later on to spike sales. Which is exactly what they've done this entire generation.

This thing is DEAD in Canada.

No doubt. Even if they give us a bit of a break we're looking at $599. $649 more likely. A no controller option would be nice here for those looking to upgrade.

Guess I'll buy a Switch this year instead and grab a One S to replace my Day One unit when there's a suitable deal.

What I don't know is what's in the configuration for $499. But that's where it's starting.

I don't leak games because I would never do that to game creators -- they deserve their moment. This is different, it's the price of a piece of hardware.

And in this case, it's likely to help them. If people didn't expect it at the conference, I feel like the reaction might be more negative. Idk. I'm shocked about this, but at least it'll have passed by the time the conference starts.

Hopeful to see a lot of great games!

I am neither a follower of Sony or Microsoft, but does no one remember how the PS1's price was being debated up until the last moment of their speech for E3?

Even though it was at a significant loss for Sony at the time, I can see Microsoft also bearing the financial hit considering how they launched early with the Xbox 360 despite its overheating design flaws last generation.

I think 499 is the logical price, however, and I would be shocked if it was announced at 399... I wouldn't cross out the possibility of it happening, though.

In the middle of the PlayStation conference, Steve Race was called on stage to deliver a small speech about the new console. He walked up to the podium, simply said “299” and sat back down again. The room exploded.

“Oh the speech? The shortest speech in the history of E3,” laughs Race.

“The interesting thing was that up until the very last minute we were debating what the price was going to be. It was varying between $299 and $399. And myself, my CFO Tom Krause, and Olaf Olafsson, were battling it out with the Japanese to try and get the $299 price point, which we thought was much more compelling.

“We started our discussions in the afternoon before the speech, and even by the morning it was still to be decided. We finally got the go-ahead early morning. I have no idea what I’d have said if they’d have insisted on $399. You could probably tell, but I didn’t have a speech prepared.”

Kalinske added: “We actually thought they were going to be $399. So that was a big surprise, and as it turned out it was a great competitive move for them. Now clearly they lost money at that price for quite a while before they could bring the production cost down. But it was a brilliant move on their part. We didn’t know they were going to do it and when they did it we said: “Well, gee. We are kinda screwed here aren’t we?” Because we weren’t making money at $399, so we knew we had a problem.”

Maybe they'll have squeezed another 100 MHz out of the CPU, bringing it to 2.4 GHz (from 2.3 GHz in the DF articles) and have all 44 CUs the Scorpio Engine has, available to devs, 6.6 TFLOPS, to 'soften' the $499 blow a bit.

We already got an extra 1 GB free'd up so now 9GB for games.

I guess the question is if you can wait until like March to get one when it is inevitably not $499. Buying an Xbone at launch was a huge mistake for me. Price dropped super fast and the launch software sucked. Why not wait until March to play UnitedHealth from Bioware?

THIS.

I think at this point, with that price point, keeping it as Xbox Scorpio and NOT Xbox One X is the right call.

You won't sell an Xbox One X at $499 as much as you'd sell the Xbox Scorpio at $499.

Guys of course there's a chance that the price could change between now and the presser. But there's also a chance that the world goes down in nuclear apocalypse between now and the presser. Both feel just about as likely to me.

Also +1 for Xbox: The Dark World

All this price confirms to me is that the console is what it was said to be from the start a premium product for their hardcore
It's not changing the tide or any outrageous things like that it's a more powerful cthan smile for there own fan base to buy
