Most Xbox games come to PC right?

Now yes; every "Xbox One Exclusive" for the last year-ish has also been available on the Windows 10 Store, with a few (Ori, Quantum Break, Dead Rising 4) even getting later Steam releases. There are a few older titles which are still Xbox One exclusive, like the complete version of Halo 5 (there's a multiplayer-capable Forge mode on Windows 10 but not the proper full version with campaign), Sunset Overdrive, Crimson Dragon and Rare Replay (as the package, all the individual titles have some availability elsewhere).

$499 seems a reasonable price when the thing you consider is the hardware/system itself...but when that's $100 more than the competitor, which is part of the leading brand this generation and is a system that's already out, then i don't see how that $499 is supposed to be a good price. The system may be more powerful than the Pro but there's more to consider than that when justifying the price.

The narrative was completely in MS' favor when it was rumored at $399. The narrative has now taken a complete 180 at $499. MS really needed the goodwill at this point, and they almost had it.

Seeing too many of these "definitely $399 now" responses makes me realize that being a part of this community doesn't mean the average dedicated gamer is informed or that smart about their hobby.

This is Geoff and the way he manages his relationships with those in the gaming industry is very precise.

MS asked him to announce this hypekiller in advance. Geoff hedged his wording in case MS got cold feet over the negative reaction.

You really should pay attention to how he talks to people in the industry. The only time he ever put anyone on full blast was Konami because it was extremely safe to do so.

This guy will never step out of line in order to maintain his industry connections.
Exactly. If MS had to release Scorpio at $499, this is exactly how they'd do it. You don't save that kind of negative shock for the presentation.

Im not convinced, PRO released LAST YEAR at $399. a little bigger APU on Scorpio shouldn't cost MS $100 more. No Vega, no Zen ..upclocked Jag with 40CU GPU.

Scorpio is gonna be $399, Im certain MS isnt dumb to release it at more than that.

R&D and how they utilize the hardware is important. It's not a gaming PC where it's about raw power. It's a closed system, they are able to get a lot more out of the hardware than similar hardware in a PC.

I think Phil is a cool guy and I respect his love for the industry. I'm also understanding of why he feels the need to conduct so many interviews - he's literally the only guys in the Xbox team that people are willing to trust and listen to. Guys like Penello outlived their love a long time ago (yes, there was a time where people actually liked him).

But the fact of the matter is that Phil has done very little in terms of building MS's first party offerings. If anything, he's been responsible for diverting company funding to building Scorpio(that R&D doesn't come cheap) when he could have tried to build the games library of the console.

Don't get me wrong - Phil's done a great job at reworking the Xbox's software policy. The console has become incredibly consumer friendly compared to where it started and even compared to the competition now.

But he's failed incredibly from a games library perspective. He's continuing that same Halo, Forza, Gears strategy that he himself established under Mattrick (everyone blames Mattrick for the Halo, Forza, Gears rut but it's continued even after Mattrick left, making it clear that Phil always agreed with it at the very least).

So where is the Xbox platform now? What does it stand for? I see no vision, none of that industry disrupting energy that catapulted the OG Xbox and 360 in the hearts and minds of its fanbase.

Scorpio was never a solution. It's a mistaken attempt at being a throwback to the OG Xbox. The OG Xbox wasn't a great console just because of how great the games looked and how powerful the console was. The console was great because the brute force of its technology was implemented in an intelligent manner. The harddisk wasn't just impressive because it gave us more space to save games, it was impressive because it drastically cut loading times. The inclusion of an ethernet port and Xbox live wasn't impressive because it allowed online gaming, it was impressive because the entire system and the executives and programmers behind it had a stunning vision of online play on consoles that didn't exist in any intelligent cohesive manner before. The 360 wasn't impressive because it was easy to program for, it was impressive because it allowed gamers to experience the best graphics for several years at a much lower entry price than the competition while boasting a better library of games. It was impressive because it was an underdog American console company courting the best and brightest from Japan and Europe to develop its games, it was impressive because it took Xbox Live and introduced a stronger and healthier market place for its customers and improved the complete console experience in every single way.

The Scorpio is incredibly misguided because it comes from a place where the executives behind the console think that the Xbox set itself apart because it was the strongest of the bunch, and that's entirely missing the point and a gross misunderstanding of what was happening. You can't impress folk with pure power. That never wins. It never will win. Consoles need a vision. Casual consumers might not be able to put their finger on it, but they can for sure sense it.

The main problem for the Xbox brand is that you can't make a visionary. Phil can't become a visionary the same way Sean Murray can't become a visionary no matter how hard he would like you to think he is. Men and women with vision develop that sensibility over experiences that span beyond their careers; it's developed through struggle and love and life experiences that can't be learnt when you're a top executive in a multi-billion dollar tech company.

Don Mattrick : "we have a product for people who can't get online, it's called Xbox 360"

That is nowhere near the same thing. The 360 was on its way out when the XBO was announced. The same can't be said with the XBO and Scorpio.

That said, there's a chance that he can be right and wrong if they announce two SKUs, one at $399 and one at $499.

It'll keep the Scorpio name I bet. I agree it will have a $499 MSRP. I would only dip if it has a 2TB hard drive, elite controller, and games run at a smooth 30/60 FPS.

We're some of you expecting this thing to suddenly turn the tides and gain maketshare over PS4, or hell, even the base Xbox One?

"Premium" is pretty much code for niche. This console will be a niche product.

Sony should be DOA based on this

Sony had one trump card back then, it was the cheapest blu-ray player on the market in an age where HD was just getting into the homes. The step for sd to hd was much more important (for content) than the step to uhd.

And PS3 in America had a serious uphill batlle and even in Europe Sony was impacted in market share. It wasn't really until the PS3 slim when sony was able to turn things around.

They kinda were back then nearly even bankrupt.

But this is another situation it will be a device for the hardcore and graphical power lovera mainstreams will just buy the cheapest thing.

Micro still has xbone and they won't lose billions on this.

Geoff, I don't know what image you're trying to portray here...you're kinda coming off as an ass, which isn't how you usually are. Makes me believe you're actually working with MS to put people off before the conference.

This makes me think he's disappointed with the price and might get some facetime before the meltdown occurs in a few hours.

ok people, how much will this be in your countries??

in Mexico a Switch was $10'000 pesos which is outrageous, a fucking joke

a $599 SKU in mexiko today will easily be nearing the $20'000 pesos.

there are families that live 3 months with that money in Mexico.

I think he said 499 so when MS announce the real price at 399 everybody is going to go nuts.
Why would Geoff all of a sudden decide that today is the day he wants people to stop listening to him for the rest of his career? I thought it was $399 when it was just a Tweet, because people make guesses like that all the time. But he keeps reiterating it. And anybody who doesn't work for MS has no reason to damage their own credibility for the sake of manufacturing $399 into some kind of supposed shocker.

Bjergsen is the greatest midlane in the world
12 months later and 4 extra gigs of ram should be the same price?

I keep saying this....look at any pre built PC with the same specs as each other except the ram is 8 vs 12. Watch the price differences you find.

At a minimum I expected 450. For me I hope its a marketing ploy and its 399.

This thing is a step above the Pro. Even 12 months later.

What if.....a last minute twist they call this their next gen system. That might make $499 easier to swallow.

Everybody else coming up with some theories, might as well throw in mine.
RAM pricing has not really gone down lately, and Scorpio is using DDR5 RAM.

As much as I want MS to do well, this is MS after all. I doubt it man.
