Minecraft "Better Together" (PC/X1/Switch/Mobile): Crossplay, Dedicated Servers+More

So then release Gwent on Switch and see if they make it multiplatform play.

Release Rocket League on Switch and see if they make it multiplatform play.

Release more games on Switch and see if they make it multiplatform play.

Put more pressure on Sony to do the same, not by talking but by example.

This is the only game right now that has multiplatform play.

Convince EA to make more sports game multiplatform. Convince more developers.

Again, let's talk when more games do it. This is an anomaly because of marketing.

From what I know of Nintendo, they wouldn't have any problems with this. Not sure what point you're trying to make.

Okay, I know next to nothing about Minecraft. This news has got my interest and I might look for the Switch edition.

What I'd like to know is:
a) what is the main gameplay loop?
b) can you make round-edged structures because so far everything looks blocky,
c) how big can you make your world, like for example can you construct a whole city?
d) can you make natural terrains like rivers, mountains, tree, etc? Are there pre-made assets you could you use?

three games. Gwent devs said the same thing]

and funny, because one game is always used as the example of microsoft being against it (FFXIV)

Microsoft would neve refuse sony out of spite on anything minecraft related, they don't give a damn, they want profit.

What's really funny is that Square-Enix just recently stated they're looking into bringing XIV to X1 and Switch, though they're probably "still a ways off". Perhaps all versions but ps4 working together like this?

a) what is the main gameplay loop? Harvest mats, build, get better equipment to harvest better mats, so on.
b) can you make round-edged structures because so far everything looks blocky, No, the pixel style is the charm.
c) how big can you make your world, like for example can you construct a whole city? Worlds are huge. Like, huge huge. You can great a whole world, not just a city.
d) can you make natural terrains like rivers, mountains, tree, etc? Are there pre-made assets you could you use? You can create anything you want to. No, no prebuilt content, though you can go into creative mode and have access to all base assets. The world randomly generates rivers, oceans, mountains, etc, but you can make your own, one block at a time. /QUOTE]

I can't imagine it was a hard sell for Nintendo.

"Hello, we want bring to Switch the best version of quite possibly the most popular game in the world, one that has a proven record of driving hardware in Japan. Oh, and we'd like to support it with dedicated servers if that's alright with you. May we please?"

Imagine if they said no xD. It would have been hilarious.

I guess this means it opens the door to a lot more cross platform play between X1 and Switch.

So i assume Rocket League is next? That would be huge.

Sorry. The point I'm making is that developers need to release more multiplatform games on Switch, talk to MS and Nintendo, and make them crossplatform play.

So far, this is the only game that does it. The rest are all talk.

I'm sure Nintendo isn't standing in the way of that game coming to the NS. Especially since Dragon Quest X is coming to that system and will be playable with all other versions.

What about non win10 PC version? Super duper graphics? Cross play?

Doubt it, Microsoft wants to kill Minecraft Java Version because since it's Java it can't be cross platform with all Mobile and Console Platforms, meaning they need multiple codebases and it will cost a higher amount to support. Thats not before we get into the performance restrictions of it being made in Java.

So how do the Pocket Edition/Windows 10 Edition compare to the Java PC game in terms of features?

If the graphics update is coming to the Xbox One X, then it will probably come out on the Windows 10 version as well...but I'm going to be reluctant to play it if it's missing features and content from the main Java based game.

so till nintendo and MS have more crossplay games sony can keep refusing crossplay for as long as they want guilt free? just trying to follow your logic

Minecraft is like the biggest game in the world crossplay would have a big benefit for Sony too. It's just pride now if it really is Sony denying it (or a MS troll).

My guess is that this will be more about developers than Nintendo. If devs want to merge players between platforms, I don't imagine Nintendo getting in the way of that.

Java version is, and will always be, the king of mods. You also don't need to pay for any skins on Java PC while you do on the other versions of the game.

Very excited for that PC-like texture pack. That's one thing that I've been wanting on consoles for a long time now. Hopefully it's not a Xbox One X only thing.

Ummmm... Sure. Sony is not interested in working with Xbox Live. Not yet. Yes, release more games, put it in BOLD that it is crossplatform play, and watch Sony crack under pressure.

They have ZERO reason and interest in letting games work between PS and XBOX. We know that, and sure it's scummy. However, the onus is on MS to continue doing this and leading charge. One game isn't gamechanger, sorry.

You all want Sony to do it? Their competitors have to humiliate them like this. Simple.

Yes and yes. It's baffling that this has become a marketing ploy instead of being natural, but if it takes developers to put pressure on Sony to lower their pride then that's what will happen.

The onus is on Developers to tell Sony "Fuck you, we like this idea and are supporting it for MS/Switch".

The main gameplay loop for the console edition is either survival or creative.

You either craft, melt, combine materials and gather resources in order to build structures, barter with villagers, breed animals, fight hoards.

Creative is just building. It's the mode I play the most. You just let your imagination roll.

There's no rounded structures. Everything is created from square blocks.

You can construct a whole city if you wanted.

There is natural terrain. Structures, mountains, rivers, lava, trees, etc. You have a number of options to modify different areas or biomes to suit your play style or preferences ... There are seeds, which are basically number combinations you can find and share only that generate the same layouts. Think of them as old school passwords. I or you can make a flat empty land to build what you want.

Oldie but still relevant.

https://www.polygon.com/2013/10/14/4838864/nintendo-allows-cross-play-for-pure-chess-ripstone-says

"...They said, 'Yep, no problem. You can have other console players playing against Wii U players. You can have smartphone players play against them. No problem,'" Gaskell told Eurogamer. "We're still talking to Sony about them relaxing their policies, but we don't think they'll have any issue with it. So when we launch Pure Chess, you'll be able to play against Wii U, 3DS, iOS and Android players.

Pure Chess never got crossplay on Sony platforms though and it even debuted on Vita and PS3 first.

Um, you didn't follow. Pure chess never got cross platform play. Nintendo said yes. That it didn't happen means Sony said no.

Are we sure that is the reason here? Remember, crossplatform play is marketing ploy. Probably wasn't worth it for them to do so.

It sucks that it's a marketing ploy but it's been held hostage for that reason.

I get it that you think you need to defend sony's honor or whatever but everything we have points to Sony being the hang up on this deal. Any game that hasn't cross platform play has pointed at Sony. You keep saying it s only two (three) but point to anything more than zero that shows t isn't on Sony.

Thanks for answering! I want to build a whole city so the Creative mode sounds like what I love to do.

Fuck Sony. I'm not defending any corporation's honor. What I'm explaining is that this is the first game with CPP between Microsoft and Nintendo. I want more games to do it, and a part of me is not convinced that this is not an anomaly.

I hope they all prove me wrong and we get more CPP titles. But I am having a hard time grasping how one game, owned by Microsoft and released on every platform imaginable, is starting a CPP revolution.

As stated previously, Sony has less issues with Nintendo and more with MS/XBL. and Vice versa.

I'm not going to lose my shit over Minecraft. However, credit where credit is due, BRAVO to both MS and Nintendo to make it happen.

Sure it's only one game if you want to keep ignoring all the previous attempts.

So I'm guessing the PlayStation version won't be getting the super duper graphics pack? That's the main point I was interested with in this announcement, and I don't have an Xbox.

They're shifting to a unified codebase with the Better Together version and PS4 isn't getting that so it probably isn't even possible.

If you prefer Realms to Dedicated Servers, those are coming too.

I guess I'm confused. What's the difference? Never heard of Minecraft Realms.

The difference is mentioned in the OP:

Unlike Minecraft Realms, which gives you access to a private, cloud-hosted world for you and your friends, servers are open and accessible to everyone - some have monthly users in the millions!
It's a question of privacy and scale. Servers essentially turn the game into an MMO.

How about the post you were responding to, in that case it was it Pure Chess' marketing ploy or Nintendo's?
