Israel Successfully Hacked ISIS Computers; Trump Leaked It to the Russians, NYT Repor

The source of the classified intelligence that U.S. President Donald Trump shared with Russian officials in May was information Israel obtained after hacking computers belonging to ISIS, the New York Times reported Monday.

According to the Times, which cited a U.S. official, Israeli "cyberoperators" managed to penetrate an ISIS cell of bombmakers based in Syria a number of months ago.

According to the report, the information was so good that it allowed the United States to learn that the terror cell was working on explosives that could fool airport security by passing as a laptop battery.

The intelligence was shared at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak. The unnamed officials said Israel had previously urged the United States to be cautious with the information. The revelation that Trump shared sensitive intelligence with Russia raises the possibility that the information could be subsequently leaked to Iran.

In January, it was reported that Israeli intelligence officials were concerned that the exposure of classified information to their American counterparts in the Trump administration could lead to it being leaked to Russia and onward to Iran. The intelligence concerns, which had been discussed in closed forums, were based on suspicions of ties between Trump, or his associates, and the government of Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

Your president is absolutely insane, America. ONE of these reports would break any government in the world, and this guy has a few of this caliber per month. How much is it gonna take for diehards to realize this guy is not fit for his position?????

The only thing that could break their faith in him is if he came out as gay.

Let's say they kept the information secret and ISIS were successful in detonate one of them on Russian flight or airport.

Enter Modern Warfare 2.

I believe this sort of intel should be shared among all countries fighting ISIS regardless of their geopolitical policies.

This sort of shit puts everyone at risk, who knows who will be onboard of those flights.

They could have warned the U.S. about credible threats regarding laptop bombs without explicitly saying how they obtained it.

The problem isn't the bomb leak, it's leaking the fact the Israelis had access to ISIS's comms. That's huge, and the less people who know, the better.

Speaking of, *squints at NYT*

It's leaking the source that is the major issue imo.

So... let me get this right. He leaked information from one of our most important allies in the region? LOL fuck this guy.

Then you convince Israel to share it or agree to share it.

Unilaterally spreading it without their permission or knowledge just means we won't be getting critical intel in the future.

Sharing the info regarding the threat was the right thing to do.

Also agree that sharing the source of the intel was a HUGE mistake.

Only flicked through the article but does it mention that Trump actually shared the source? It sounds like he shared the intelligence itself and this revelation that it came from the Israelis is seperate.

Nobody could legitimately fuck up this badly. I refuse to believe he's just a bumbling idiot who doesn't know how to shut up. There's something far more insidious going on here.

The overall point of the article is that Trump claims he didn't leak the source to the Russians, and this report says otherwise, which makes the leak much worse for a variety of reasons. It is these types of stories, though, that do make you question if it was worth reporting due to the nature, because as you said, it is better the less people know this, but at the end of the day, the President was the one who leaked this, it was only a matter of time.

EDIT: Or maybe I'm wrong. Hmm, nevermind, I misread the first part of the article.

How would you "enter Modern Warfare 2"? It's not like an ISIS attack in such a case would then be blamed on the US.

The bigger point is this: this was sensitive information shared with the US by Israel that they wanted kept close to the vest. The US shares this intel haphazardly with Russia. Russia is an ally to Iran. Iran and Israel are mortal enemies.

This is a massive blunder and it harms the relationship between the US and intelligence communities around the world.

But he never said Israel... This is SOLELY on the fake and lying media!!!

Oh course the orange buffoon destroys one of the good chances we've had of infiltrating ISIS.
