As we get closer to Sony's conference later this evening, I wonder if people will be as critical on Sony as they were with Microsoft. As redundant as it is to say, I do get reminded of one thing of when I watch Sony's conferences: Sony don't go out of their way to mention if some games are multiplatform; only if there is "Exclusive content" that will on their consoles.

Part of me feels as though that for any "Multiplatform" games that get shown off, some are going to blow it off and not raise as much hell over it as we saw yesterday. Definitely will be an interesting show though. Microsoft did set the bar high, question is what we'll see out of Sony?

We see that for both Microsoft and Sony conferences in terms of "Multiplatform" games. I'm just ready to see people respond much more positive to games shown in Sony's conference than in Microsoft's conference. Hell, if I recall last year correctly, there people were some that were praising the hell out of Call of Duty that was shown in Sony's conference in spite of it being the exact same gameplay reveal that we have seen for several years out of Microsoft's conference. It is stuff like that I'm expecting to see, but if we see some legit surprises, you won't see me complaining about it.

This is such crap. That Infinite Warfare demo was almost universally praised because for once it actually showed something a little different. A lot of people didn't realise was CoD until the end. The year before, people were unimpressed with the BO3 demo.

Always fun to see several people quote you. While saying "Set the bar high" can have a vary of definitions, I am looking towards Sony's conference in the same way that some have looked into Microsoft's conference yesterday. Mind you did Microsoft set up alot of AAA titles? Of course not. A few if at all at best. However, how many titles did we see will be coming out for Xbox over the course of these next couple of months? I like to think it was a fair amount there. Something to which I hope we see out of Sony as well since while the "exclusives" are more vast, there is quite a bit of a waiting time to actually see them come out.

- People were critical of Sony with "console debut" and any other tagged they used. Many are still critical of Sony's stance on b/c did you not see the Jim Ryan thread?

- Raising the bar high means they put on one of the best conferences period, I don't know what varying definitions means here, but er...ok, I would say most would disagree with your assessment that MS conference was that good

- COD segment got praised because of what was shown, a space battle, that thematically fit into their conference. Even so, many people only want to see nothing but exclusives period.

- You are coming into the conference seemingly to justify your own formed narrative. Just enjoy the show and games, no one cares about that fanboy crap, it's past the halfway point of the gen and so many amazing games are coming out. Who cares if PS happens to be where the spotlight is for many of them. Enjoy your Xbox, enjoy your Switch, Enjoy your PC, but stop with this "unfair Xbox" treatment. It happens on every forum where the more popular console has more positivity around it. Here's a thought, there's simple more people that have the console lol.

Socom
PSN Name Changes
Destiny 2 Exclusive Strike
Spiderman Release Date
RDR
Bloodborne 2
Borderlands 3
NBA 2k Esports league
Sucker Punch New IP
PS5
Detroit
PS Vita 2

No pressure Sony

Is it too early for a PS Vita successor? ;-)

I hope there will be some surprises for PSVR and PS4 Pro owners.

Do you think God of War will be released in Q4 this year or in Q1 next year? Uncharted 3 was the last AAA game by Sony that was released in November.

Let me correct you:

Microsoft did set the price high

This is key point to keep in mind, when people complain about bias on this forum over the years. It's a numbers game.

God I hope it never happens.
I love the Vita, but I want Sony to keep focusing on a single platform.

Socom it's dead Jim
PSN Name Changes
Destiny 2 Exclusive Strike
Spiderman Release Date or just gameplay footage
RDR
Bloodborne 2
Borderlands 3??
NBA 2k Esports league ??
Sucker Punch New IP
PS5 what? Why?? No....
Detroit
PS Vita 2 Please a lot of fans, but Nah...

No pressure Sony
None at all...that's a pretty safe conference and borderline boring judging against past Sony E3. Also don't get why Sony would have some of those games in their conference like borderland and 2k?

I don't even care if they don't announce a single new thing, I just want to see more of Spider-Man and God of War. And get release dates on both.

So happy Sony goes last.

Everything is slowly building up to a climax.
While doing grocery shopping with the kids, I realized that if we compare videogame to sports, E3 pressers are the Superbowl, and Sony's conference is the second half, while MS is the first.
PC and Nintendo are like the half time show, cause they don't really compete in the same arena, yet still make lots of money doing their own thing.
EA, Ubi and Bethesda are like the benched MVPs... They make oodles of money, might win you the game when brought in with contracts, but that's not really where all the attention is focused.

Yeah. I know. My mind needed to escape for a minute there.

Alright, here's my predictions/wish list.

- Spidey demo, release date for Q4 2017.
- God of war demo, Q1 2018.
- Destiny 2 will get wayyyy longer than it should.
- New Wipeout!
- Confirm that crash team racing thing.
- New ratchet & clank not tied to a terrible film.
- I'm gonna say either syphon filter or resistance revival.
- Call of duty will also get a demo thats too long.
- Detroit trailer, '2018'
- Knack 2 demo, GOTY.
- What's that terrible looking zombie thing from last year, days gone or whatever.
- New infamous.

I'm reaaally looking forward to new gameplay demos of both these babies. Especially Spidey since I know GOW will be fire already. And if Sucker Punch comes through as well, good lord there will be fireworks.

How did MS set the bar hight? Their only big 3rd party game shown was Assassin's Creed. And their 1st party showing wasn't strong.

Sony is going to have Star Wars, Call of Duty and Destiny. Those are huge.

But Sony will also show big exclusives like Uncharted, Spiderman, Gran Turismo and God of War. And they will show off new games like Days Gone and Detroit as well.

This is not really a competition anymore.

Mario Mario

Zelda zelda won E3 so not sure what youre insinuating here.

As for Sony I just want some god of war stuff, ps4pro price drop and some ps4pro updates where all your games will benefit from the increase in power. Everything is icing on tbe cake. They are in such a good place right now.

Edit: why even discuss Microsofts conference here in a Sony thread. Just fuels the us vs. them mentality even further.

Apologies that I'm not in the camp that immediately says "Sony Wins!" before they show off what they have. People thought that Bethesda was going to blow Microsoft out of the water, and look at what happened there. There are a good number of factors that we need to take into account of not just what gets shown off, but when we are going to see it too. Otherwise, we find ourselves getting overhyped over a game that will go MIA next year.

Of course, do I want to see Sony do well enough where I can say "Sony Wins!" by all means. There's no denying that they had the best show last year. It is just going to be hard to top it; especially considering that they can't pull out the hardware card again (or if they do, it could be seen as a slap in the face to those who just got the Pro).

The CoD demo was praised because it was a damn good demo. That's one of the things that really set apart Sony from everyone else last year.

They know how to do stage demos. Just look at MS's conference this year. Very few games had good stage presence. Sea of Thieves and Anthem had a good showing. But something like State of Decay 2 or Crackdown, games I'm sure will be great (I'm super excited for SoD2 because I loved the first), had really poor showings.

It's not just about content, it's also about execution.

For me, Microsoft burned themselves with their constant "EXCLUSIVE" narration over console launch exclusive wording. That's incredibly disingenuous. I liked a good deal of what they showed, but because of that launch exclusive stuff, it wasn't enough to switch me over.

Forza 7, though, looked fantastic! Looking forward to seeing GT Sport in the pre-show stream, a half hour of it sounds super cool. Hopefully they announce a date with that.

Haha, no chance.
Well, to start with, contrarily to MS, Sony has a ton of anticipated 1st/ 2nd party exclusives (real ones) to showcase, so they start with an advantage.

But if they seem to coast, have dragged on 3rd party marketing talks and announce little new... You can be sure there'll be some backlash.

Although to "lose" after what MS did and their lineup, they'd have to try hard imo.

I do plan on enjoying the show. There's no "fanboying" to be had here since trying to turn this into a console war destroys the whole purpose of the conferences to begin with. I have a PS4 and I enjoy playing games on it as much as the Xbox One and Switch. Hell, Horizon and Persona 5 were some of the best games I played this year and I hope we get to see plenty more great games as we move into the 2nd half of the year.

I just look at each conference the same way without any kind of "favors" like how many usually do with Sony. We can agree to disagree if you want, but I'm ready to see what Sony has to offer tonight.

I'm 100% sure I've seen Sony get flak for the console exclusive and console debut labels on this forum. Especially when their own marketing is inconsistent on what it is. How many times have we gone back and forth on whether or not Crash is exclusive or not?

Welp, pack it up guys. These are the only games to be shown tonight, no exclusives.

j/k It's just the current PSN web store main banner.

Are you saying that MS is the Falcons, and Sony is Patriots.
Nah, Falcons were offensively better than the Pats, and just got tired of defense. MS past few E3 have really not been in the same league of quality as Sony's. The orchestra, the minimal talk, the respect Shawn Layden gave to the games letting them "speak for themselves" and picking good different games to show off and set the tone.

The mantra that its all about 'games games games' is true. It is important, and we don't want to hear PR at a conference. It does matter what type of games you show however. You want to show standout titles, that are advancing genres and trying new things. Sony could easily have a 2.5 hour conference just asking for devs to make cuts of everything good coming to PS4 in the next year and a half, and it would be boring, too long, and out of touch with what excites gamers.

God of War was amazing because finally, Kratos wasn't screaming. A graphical showcase, and tone shift, and introducing the new voice actor who sounded incredible

Spider-Man is pretty hype because its spider man, but it also was hyped because of who's making it

etc...Sony picked the right games to show, which isn't easy. I hope they do as good a job this year, they have the right attitude, (games are art, and many adults play so give us some different themes and emotional games as well as fun co-op buddy buddy stuff) but can still mess up on delivery.

MS showed Anthem too, that was pretty big.

But yeah, they didnt set the bar high at all, that was an incredibly underwhelming conference overall.
