Dragon Ball FighterZ (PC/XB1/PS4, BN/ASW, UE4, early 2018, beta Sum 2017) E3 trailer

Oh man. They certainly mean active development and this excludes pre-production stuff, though. Xrd -SIGN-'s active development took approximately 1.5 years with a small amount of staff members, so that lines up. ASW is a very efficient company.

This is the first I've heard of Tomoko Hiroki. I'd like to hear more about the people behind this game.

20% active development sounds about right. if there's 6 characters already (and there's almost certainly more almost complete and others in the pipeline) and they're this far along that's a pretty good sign. Might launch with 20+?

So what are the chances that this will get dubbed? I've never played one of Arc's games, so idk if they usually have English voiceovers.

This is good to know, hopefully they can polish all the characters to be like Gohan and Frieza.

20% isn't much though given how little time they have left !! I guess coming up with the systems and engine was the biggest part.

On the plus side, that means I sent my cry for 17 in time.

he he he

They said it'll be out in 2018. That could be at any point. They can get a lot done in a year plus. ArcSys is efficient. Plus unlike GG they won't spend a lot of time testing in arcades

High. ArcSys has moved away because cost and time constraints, but with Namco having final say it'll most likely be dubbed

ArcSys gave fuck all about dubbing the last Blazblue and Guilty Gear but this is DBZ we're talking about. It's gonna get dubbed.

Can we expect the game to look even better at launch?

Yes.

Gohan is flawless, if you stop the game, any Gohan frame looks great like in Xrd, hopefully they have time to polish all characters like him.

Vegeta and Goku have a lot of bad posing. Vegeta's cutscenes are perfect though. Goku's cutscenes are great outside of his base hair in the ending, but his intro is clearly (I hope) unfinished.

Translation on the interview

Q: What made you guys make this game?
A: Fans have been wanting 2D Dragonball game for long time. Also we feel fighting game is good fit for e-sports

Q: How many characters will be in the game?
A: I can't say right now... but we can't just have so many characters in fighting game. So we will decide on who will be fun to play, as well as the character's popularity in Dragonball.

Q: There was no 4K mention during XBox One X announcement
A: Yeah but it will look better in Xbox One X and PS4 Pro

Q: What is different from other Dragonball games?
A: 3v3 system is the biggest difference. Using character change and assists. Also we were considering not only Dragonball fans, but fighting game fans.

Q: There was no kamehameha battle which was disappointing.
A: We are making very speedy game so we felt it wouldn't fit

Q: What is game development status?
A: We only have 6 characters shown so hard to say.. About 20% overall?

Q: It looks like using so many buttons and changing characters at same time looks difficult to do.
A: I am personally not that good, but looking at the dev team they are using assists first before changing character.

Q: How was game received?
A: Seems very well thanks to the visual quality of the game. People saying they are finally seeing animation quality game in 20 years made me happy.

Q: Who is your favorite character in Dragonball?
A: Gohan. I have 2 year old daughter and she loved Gohan as well. But I am making sure that doesn't affect game's balance lol

Q: How bout favorite character from anime?
A: I like female Super Saiyajin from currently airing super. As female myself, I feel I can relate to her.

Q: Is it possible to see characters from other Dragonball, like GT?
A: For that we will consider fan's feedback.

I still say 20.

Sure. Energy beam tug-of-wars are a hallmark of DBZ, but it would hurt the pacing of a match and probably result in dumb mashing. Still, I hope there's a priority system when it comes to energy blasts that can kind of act as a replacement.

Great stuff, thanks for posting. There will be dozens of us looking for GT representation! Dozens!

Trailer said "Early 2018" but that could just as easily be January as it could be April for example, assuming theres no delays of course.

Chances of Caulifla or Kale should be good?

Yep, dozens. Because people who like GT couldn't possibly trail above 100 right?

I kid, I kid

In seriousness, the fighters outside of Z will probably be limited in number. Chances for DLC tho

I kinda doubt that percentage. Only because I feel a lot of Japanese devs undersell themselves with low percentages yet still manage to get the game on time without it being a glitch fest.

Unless it's Square, in which they're being bluntly accurate.

How the hell are they going to finish this in less than a year?

They said 6 shown, not only 6. And 20% is ambiguous as we don't know how much equals 1%.

For the record they announced Xrd in 2013 and launched on arcade in Feb 2014. Then on console with a total of 17 characters that december. They are going right to console here

Also early 2018 means different to Japanese developers. We think Q1, they could think before July

Well now *pushes up glasses* we can definitively confirm how many characters are in the game

I mean to me that sounds like high teens as a launch #.

It looks like DBZF characters use less animation frames than GG ones since their animations are significantly faster. I don't think they're taking as much care on each frame as they are in GGXrd either. Probably means they can turn characters around a lot quicker, especially if they have additional resources.

So we'll just mark Cauliflower off the list!

Give me GT Pan (with OG VA) or give me death!

Surely this game wouldn't have 30 characters?

Teen Gohan with the white Gi is goat. I still can't get over how good this looks. It's the game I've wanted to play since I was watching anime on Toonami.

Glad I bought that stick for SFV last year. It might finally get some use outside of that.

That would be so disappointing.

We need at least 25.

Making quality characters is hard work. It takes ArcSys time. If you want it out next year you may need to settle for less. ArcSys isn't CapCom with a large team

HOWEVER.....they have backing from Namco who can provide more resources than they could alone allowing for more than they could with GG

Yeah, DBF characters look less detailed overall than the average Xrd character so that'll help development move along. Not to mention a better understanding of UE. I'm pretty confident they'll hit 26 ~ 30 by launch.
