Is this a touching story about a couple that bonds through partying up as two DPS and having to spend all their time talking to each other while waiting in queues?

That was me and my GF throughout the majority of Heavenward... Doing FATE's and quests while waiting in the QUEUE as a Dragoon/Ninja....

It's part of the reason why there's no NPC quests for us in the HW maps anymore and leveling up anything else is a PoTD grind.

Then I found out about WAR and tank queues.... :D

How is everyone (who is rolling Sam or red mage) going to level from 50-60?

50-58: Run Palace of the Dead until close to level, then do quick Leve(L)/Job Quests/Clan Hunts to fill the gap, so I can be more exp efficient with Palace of the Dead.

58-59: Burn through 13 Leve(L) and 1 Palace of the Dead run.

59: Vanu/Vath Beast Tribes x12, 20 Lv.59 quests, and 1-2 Palace of the Dead Runs.

I'm hoping they do what they did going into HW and buff Leve and Fate exp, making Leve(L) even better.

Unless I'm reading this wrong (and I could be because god forbid Square word things clearly) it seems like existing players on low population servers won't be getting the exp bonuses. Not getting the gil or play time I can understand, but it seems like step 1 of population control would be to incentivize people on small servers to stop leaving.

Busy tomorrow so I probably won't be back in game til after maintenance (have fun Ultros-GAF), but since I've already got my Highland clan, Lightning Grandpa guardian deity, griffin mount, lance, chakra, and ruin, I'm pretty sure I'm ready for Doma.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!

Yeah I like breaking up POTD grinding with leves too. And since my highest job is summoner, I should have a reasonable mount of ~50-60 caster gear for redmage while outside of POTD.

Reading this:
Bonuses for characters created during bonus period that attain level 30 in any class

Gift of 1,000,000 gil(*1)
Gift of 15 days of free play time(*2)

*1 Limited to once per data center on a single service account.
*2 Limited to once per service account when creating a new character on either a new or designated World.
Characters created on newly established Worlds during the bonus period will be restricted from using the World transfer service for 90 days.

Players with pre-existing characters on new Worlds are still eligible to receive these bonuses for new characters created after the bonus period has begun. All new characters beyond the first created will also receive any bonuses not specifically restricted as one-time only incentives.

Does this read as "make a character on one of these worlds, try and quickly raise it to level 30 and get 15 days free subscription?

Lore question about stuff from the end of 3.0:

Is Bahamut being Midgarsormr's son and Tiamat's (brother/lover?) a retcon? or can dragons be both like actual living dudes and Primals at the same time?

They're not primals as primal summoning requires crystals

I might be remembering this wrong, but wasn't
the primal Bahamut the result of trying to summon the original Bahamut back from the dead, and it went horribly wrong because the Ascians are douches
?

That's not
the actual Bahamut, though. The real one died during the war against the allagans, and Tiamat tried to summon him back in the form of a primal. That went very wrong.
The final cutscenes of 3.0 explain that, and
Tiamat is still stuck there because she still mourns Bahamut's death and to atone for her sin of summoning the primal dreadwyrm.

Also I just realized I forgot a major part of Tiamat's lore dump so nevermind! (also pointed out above)

real bahamut died, the primal one was the result of her despair and Ascian fuckery

Bingo.
Though I forget about Middy after the whole airship thing. I can't recall if he's dead or not.

Coil Bahamut is not the 'real' Bahamut, Tiamat asked the ascians help to revive him, but the result was a primal fueled by hate.

Reposting this, but for those on Ultros who are planning to grind PotD, I've made a spreadsheet to help plan parties.

I'm kind of laughing that they finally broke from the pre-HW template and it's... by not giving us prelim notes.

I just wanna nerd out over some stuff; the secret tooltip screenshots have been educational (I think the SMN ones are the first clear explanation of what Ruination actually does that I've seen?), but apparently people are rushed through the trial so fast there's not a lot of time to check stuff out. The noct AST shield nerf is a solid indicator that sensible potency rebalancing has continued, but I'm curious how widespread it is. And, of course, WHM in general.

When we can start downloading the pre early access guys?

After the servers go down, but they'll be down for 24 hours so you'll have tons of time to download before EA starts.

Then the datamining will begin and everyone can flip out about everything and it will be a hilarious adventure of people yelling at one another for not respecting Yoshida's anti-datamining stance.

Well, I'm pretty sure his stance when they did that HW stream was for stuff like music spoilers, boss spoilers, etc. I'm sure they don't like the item level/stats datamining and whatnot but that's all stuff people will want to know ASAP even if they couldn't get to it before the game came out, people would be posting that stuff as they got to the various places anyway. Posting story spoilers etc. before you can even access the game is even more of a dick move.

HW spoilers
I'm sure there were people going around spoiling King Thordan being Knights of the Round before release

Yoshida said last night they were still writing it (via in game character on Adamantoise while at E3). They stated in more then one interview they expected to have pre-liminary notes but I guess the size of the changes, and changes being made up to the last second delayed the deployment so much that it seems extremely unlikely we are going see them before the real patch notes are supposed to go live. I still have some hope we might see them but its extremely slim at this point, why bother if the real one is going to come out in less then 17 hours from now? Still when they are released I will have something to sift through while waiting for the game to come back up, should be 'fun' to look at in the mean time.

I feel like that's a bigger worry of things if they're big, sweeping changes and not like tweaks that are keeping them from a set of prelim notes. I really hope we get them before the live reading if only so I have a thing to look at while I sleep through Thursday night to hour 0 early access.

When's the SB OT going up? Thursday? Friday? I won't be able to make it for the FC's Goodbye Heavensward, but we're doing a Hello Stormblood this weekend too right?

You can read through the original Reddit reaction here; his request was literally take down all datamining. Spoilers were understood to have been the motivating factor, but the request was blanket and everyone did indeed flip out at everyone and there was a lot of tut-tutting people for not respecting yoshi-sama's wishes. Which is fun to watch.

And for the record I don't remember there being a rash of people out to ruin people's MSQ fun at HW launch, and more to the point the people who want to run around blasting spoilers everywhere are going to be the people who don't listen to Yoshida. All the request accomplished was getting the non-story stuff yanked from everywhere and a lot of hilarious misplaced indignation on both sides.

At this point I half expect the player base post-launch to start brushing aside any and all balance issues with "they're just not done balancing the jobs yet! You can't actually evaluate or discuss anything in-depth until Omega!"

because if they're still making giant sweeping combat balance changes, how in the heck are they tuning Omega

But then, them not having time to properly QA Gordias got us Living Liquid.

Never mind, this is the best news ever.

Balance is fine and dandy, but how am I supposed to pretend that I'm working if I don't have patch notes to read?

The real important question. Hopefully I can have this answer tomorrow and the patch notes don't take like 18 hours to show up after maintenance begins.

Just had a random lore thought about Primals. Spoilers for ARR and HW (all the way to the end of 3.5).

The idea is that the power of faith and belief, along with strong emotions like hate and revenge, channeled through the power of crystals, can birth fabrications of gods and god-like beings right? So Primals in theory could be anything, limited only by the imagination of a sentient being or race. We've seen Primals which are gods who are worshipped - like all the beast tribe gods, Primals which are based on historical figures who were real - like Shiva and King Thordan, Primals based on deceased dragons like Bahamut, Primals based on myth alone - like Good King Mog and Shinryu,

So the next thing I'm wondering is... do we think there's an actual requirement that a Primal's subject is actually no longer part of the world? Could a Primal be awakened of a living entity without their consent? What happens if the Warrior of Light is captured some day and everyone thinks we're dead. But we're not. And they all pray for the Warrior of Light to save them from some great calamity and channel all their hopes and dreams into crystals? Would another Warrior of Light be born as a Primal?

For that matter, why does it seem like only one of a single Primal can exist at a time? If there are say, 10 different tribes of a given Beast Tribe, and they are separated but share a common faith, if there are enough crystals for each of them, could there not be say 10 Ifrits in different places at once? What limits this? Each Ifrit isn't any more real than the other, so why would it matter?

I can't speak to now, since I'm not preordering on PS4 this time, but back in HW I was able to have EA active for both.

So I'm a derp: turns out I had to leave in the dashes when putting in the code.

In all fairness, you don't have to do that when redeeming a PSN code. Oh well, at least I'm good now.

I think it's heavily implied that
we, the players, are a Primal summoned by the planet and substained by the prayers and thoughts of the people we save

I don't think it is?
If we are a Primal, none of the Hydaelyn stuff would make sense. Also, crystals don't vanish en masse as we walk around. :p
