Minecraft CEO confirms Xbox Live login on Switch, really wants Sony cross-play.

So, every PSN owner would need to make an XBL account. I can definitely see Sony's reluctance to that end

The issue is not the same with Rocket League, as Psyonix has made it sound

This joke tweet is starting to look more real lol.

Seriously though I can get something of this.

If Mojang still fully owned this and not MS, it would probably require a Mojang account and Sony wouldn't mind that at all.

Sony allows EA account, Ubisoft account, Blizzard account, Bethesda accounts to log in PS4 with.

Sony doesn't want people to log in Xbox account through PS4.

Same as the iPhone & Android versions then.

No need to pay for live on them or Pc versions, so that is how they are unifiying your DLC purchases.

So in some strange alternate universe and Sony, switch, Xbox, pc all had Minecraft crossplay. We would all need to create an Xbox live account to play it no matter what platform you're on?

Actually how is rocket league situation right now? Doesn't that game already have crossplay between pc and ps4, and a different crossplay between pc and xb1?

Without an account system how else would you be able to transfer and save your Minecraft world to any platform? An account system seems very logical.

Sony have been refusing cross platform play for a while, I thought it was common knowledge. Many devs would have made their games have it if it weren't for Sony refusing.

Sometimes it blocks an entire game coming to the system, like FFXIV.

Since players are separated by servers on FFXIV, if the game were to come to Switch and Xbox One, and with some PC players also trickling in, would that be enough of a player base to justify it not connecting with PlayStation players at all?

Wow, so people will have to make an XBL account to play on Switch?

Does that mean they can count Switch players will towards xbox 'MAU's? No wonder they want PS4 players on there

I suspected this was going to be the case since the Pocket Edition also has an Xbox Live login process for playing online or using Realms (both separate from using private servers or LAN games).

Mojang's blog also said that DLC from each version would carry over and be cross-platform.

I wonder how DLC purchases are going to work. Mojang's stated before the Switch announcement about changes to their DLC payment system and already released this really convoluted $$$ -> Points solution to purchasing DLC with the Windows 10 and Pocket Edition.

Well if I was Sony then I'd say no to this too. As many have mentioned, the question becomes if this is the same issue on Rocket League?
Anyone who thinks that you'll have to login with a Xbox Live ID to be able to crossplay in Rocket League on the Switch is out of his mind. Ridiculous.

Except every time Yoshida mentions it he's putting the blame of MS.

I guess I dunno what's happening then. I remember FFXI not being something that MS wanted back in the day, and when it happened they had to allow PSU (fun times). Something about not wanting another online service?

I'm interested if this integration on the switch version needs Xbox Live gold to make that jump to the xbox servers.

It is not the case for Rocket League.

No, you just need a login.

So no excuses for them there then still. It's much less "political" than the Minecraft situation then in that case.

PS4 isn't cross-playing with anything. They're on their own.

That's not the question and you're wrong.

In Minecraft's case yes you will need to link a Microsoft account for multiplayer. You already need to do this on Android, iOS, and Win10.

Which also means that cross play is not a universal solution that can be dropped onto a title. That's why I feel stuff like this should be left to the developer to decide on multiplayer features, not the platform holder.

Let's get Sony on this!

Yeh they need to sort out a solution but I doubt they will be ok with their users having to go through a competitors interface to play online. On steam it's fine because they are just a store front and I guess in Nintendo's case they will welcome the extra activity online but Sony are not going to see something like that favourably given their current position. It doesn't make it any less bullshit though, especially given the fact that PS4 players will be cut off from content/updates in the case of Minecraft.

completely understandable. no different than needing an EA, UPlay, Square Enix etc accounts.

warriors are going to spin the defense though

I can understand Sony having no interest in wanting to help further bolster Microsoft account numbers, but that's still a pretty petty (dare I say it? arrogant) reason to deny sweeping changes to an important game on their platform. It's not like I haven't played other games on PS4 that require me to log into another account in order to access certain features.

So everybody thinks Sony wants people on PSN connecting to Xbox live, with Xbox live gamertags through PSN? Lol and you still don't understand why they aren't doing it?

That's not how any of this works lol

So kinda like...

Xbox/Switch/PC serves and PS4/PC servers? Tbh, I think with Square Enix they let you log into your account from any suuported platform, so I'm not sure that's what they want.

I imagine it's kinda automatic like log in with Nintendo account@randomxboxid rather than sign up for Microsoft account and here is your Xbox Live gamer tag.

I would have no problem logging into my Xbox account on my PS4. I really wish Sony would change their mind on this one. That new graphics pack looks so good and it would be nice being able to play with my buddy on X1.

I saw this on IGN's comments, and I feel like it needed to be posted here too in regards of "We need to protect the children."

On the subject itself, I mean... I get it, but considering that we have two games that Sony had flat out denied cross play, it makes them look even more silly when you have Nintendo showing zero issues with playing with PC and Xbox players.

Sony redeemed. It's a bit much to tell Sony to force it's customers to sign up to Xbox Live if they want to cross play Minecraft. I wouldn't be thrilled if I was asked to do it. Why would Sony encourage their customers to give their details to it's number one competitor? Not gonna happen.

You'll likely always require a third party system for crossplay so there's no reason to get hung up on that. You want to keep things organized and reduce duplicate names and any oddities and issues, so keeping them as part of one single system like MS's live account system makes sense for Minecraft.

Rocket League will likely be a similar deal. I just don't know what their service is.

Hmmm now I'm imagining a world where Nintendo does a deal for XBL on Switch rather than their own subscription...

I can definitely see why Sony wouldn't want this then, considering you'd have to make a Live account to play the game online for PS4. That being said...

I agree. Definitely doesn't explain the reluctance on Rocket League.

Nah, it somewhat does explain it. This is a Trojan horse, and if the first game to implement crossplatform play starts with a bitter taste, the rest can't be an easy exceptional.

You can't say "but that was different!"

If you got W10, hotmail or anything related to MS you can use that to sign in.

All their systems work together with the same login.
