Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) manga thread of TOTAL SPOILER PANDEMONIUM

What does 2cour mean?
Japanese Anime run on a 4-season (13 ep) basis. AoT's special behind the scenes ep next week is cause they have a extra block to fill before things rotate to the next series.

I'd never heard the "cour" thing till yesterday, but that's what people are calling a single fall/winter/spring/summer season. So 2-cour would mean 2 seasons in a row.

Cour is a way to differentiate a season

A season is how long a show runs without stopping (not counting breaks on Goldenweek and the like) so a single season of Gintama can be 201 episodes or 13 episodes. JoJo is another good example - S1 was 2 cours, Stardust Crusaders was 48 episodes together but two sets of two cours cuz they took a break, thus two seasons and Diamond is Unbreakable was 3 cours

So a cour is one literal season - Spring, Summer etc - so 1 cour = 12/13 weeks 2 cour = double that etc

Welp so I started reading the manga.. and I got to the part where Armin/Erwin die and then Armin. Fucking hell. Brutal. The feels.

Low key expected Levi to cry a bit after he was all alone for letting his friend die... Isayama-san is an incredible writer. I'm constantly impressed how much better the story, characters and world get the more I watch (and now read).

So Erwin's charge to death should be in Season 3 right? Fuck, idk if I'm ready for that.
The reveal of Erwin's motivations and his sacrifice is such a gut punch.

It also makes Isayama's audience trolling w/ the drawn out basement reveal into a thing of pure genius when they discover they've been put right into Erwin's shoes.

Well, it should end with the photo in the basement, so they'll wait for the answers a little bit more.
But the best thing anime could do would be just showing the photo, without explaining anything and then season 4 to begin with chapter 91, Marley war, new characters etc., just to troll anime watchers a little bit more. After a few episodes, we would find out that Eren is a spy there and then basement stuff would be told in a few flashback episodes.

I can't until the photo reveal happens, that shit is gonna be so good. I'm still super happy at just how great of a twist that was, usually those drawn out mysteries end up in disappointment, or are just never even explained, but not only did they explain it here, but it completely changed the way you looked at the whole story.

In hindsight Erwin's "I just want to see what's in the basement." is one of the best panels in the manga. The first time I read that chapter though I was extremely mad lol

So 2 cours could very much cover everything right until the latest time skip correct?

It should cover all they way to the basement but, there might not be enough to cover the Marley reveal. So what I think would happen is they either end at the picture reveal or skip through the beach scene. And the beginning of season 4 would reveal Marley.

I think it will cover till the basement
Unless the condense the coup arc. Maybe.

Oh man, Anime watchers will riot if they finish the 24~25 episodes right up there, after waiting until 2019 only to finish with last episode opening the basement and showing the picture.
Biggest blue balls case ever.

Let it end with them opening the door

Doesn't the gang looking at the ocean take place after the Marely flashbacks, or am I remember incorrectly?

The Marley reveal should only take 2 episodes to go over. If it's 24 episodes, then I could see it being like this:

Human Revolution arc: 12
Battle to Retake Shiganshina: 8-10
Marley reveal: 2-4

Pretty sure Battle of Shiganshina can be reduced further since most of it is action which should go by fast in animation.

After. It's clearly designed as a volume/arc stop-point.

From the anime thread:
Unless Erens dad somehow went ssj I doubt it's him. Unless Grisha is Saiyan and that's his oozaru form and he's become a ssj4. Doesn't look like Grisha either. Dude is ripped as shit and Grisha was a beanpole that looked goofy.
Again, could you not pretend you haven't read the manga?

Why would you go and dig up a post I made 4 years ago? What relevance would that have anymore?
Well, see right above. Still pretty fucking relevant, clearly.
Kindly stop with that shit?

It'd be pretty dumb to end the season on them finding the basement but not the photo. You can either find out at the end of season 3 or a minute into season 4, ending it with the photo at least gives everyone a massive hook for what may come in season 4.

Episode ending on the photo would be cool. Ending the season there would cause my family (don't read the Manga) to rage though!

That would suck for anime viewers though, and it would make the start of the 4th season awkward as hell. I don't see them not ending with Eren wondering if killing everyone past the ocean will make their problems go away, then starting the 4th season with a timeskip and told from the Eldrian side.

If they animate everything they showed in the teaser, we will end the season 3 in the sea. That's a lot of stuff to fit in one 2-cour season though.

I see the next arc being condensed a fair bit, unfortunately. I quite enjoyed it.

I see the season ending on the crew getting to the ocean too.

The season after beginning with the new cast will be jarring as fuck though. Tbf the manga was too initially!

Imagine the shock to animeonlies, having a first half episode with a trench war, soldiers, no titans...like, wtf is going on. Best girl shows up on four legs, jaw titan... Then Reiner and Zeke show up on the place and the real fight starts. Ending the episode with Reiner's plot amor being used again.

Now THAT is a nice start of a season.

After watching teaser for s3 it seems they will end the season at the ocean scene. With even saying "after we kill those across the ocean we will be free"

I hate the arc but have high hopes in the anime team doing a good work with it.

I don't remember much of anything about that arc.I skipped most of it. I hardly remember a thing about most the manga beyond chapter 72ish

Again, with your needless dragging. Is even posting in the thread spoilers now? I simply said how the cloaked man looked nothing like Grisha and or he couldn't be Grisha unless Grisha were a Saiyan.. I have not spoiled a single thing.

Dude, you're pretending to speculate when you already know the answer. Stop doing that shit, It's so weird that you want to just tell anime readers spoilers under the guise that it's speculation.

But you are, you are a manga reader you know what's coming and you are pretending to be guessing things, stop it.

Depends how you go about it. If you use prexisting elements already shown in the anime to point out flaws in theories, I don't think that's spoiling anything.

Implying future events is spoiling it though and it's a scummy thing to do.

But a ton of people in that thread think it might be his dad, so if you're a manga reader, coming in there and telling people WHY he's not the dad is shitty. Is it so hard to just not "speculate" while pretending to not know the answer already?

I'm glad I already read the manga cus the amount of manga spoilers just being dropped left and right in that thread is shitty.

I'd think at most you should be more subtle and go "but why is he blonde now?" and not practically shouting "that isn't Grisha." Or just quiet.

So what's the deal with anime having Eren's titan catch on fire back in S1, colossus and Rod gave off steam because of their massive size(with colossus' being controllable) but they weren't literally on fire like Eren . A part of me wants to believe it was the anime having future knowledge and showing/hinting what Attack Titans's unique power is.

What's the Attack Titan unique power? Honest question, I thought stubbornness was his main treat. He doesn't seem to have any special treat besides that.
