Capcom explains why Monster Hunter World isnt called Monster Hunter 5 (also leak vid)

Eh. I would wait till 2018 before assuming this. I'm sure Switch will get a gen 5 title assuming Capcom isn't totally inept.
They aren't even localizing XX. We are looking at 2019 at the earliest for the West if such a thing even exist. Again, like you said, assuming that Capcom isn't inept. So I would say 2020, if it exists.

Lol what? this IP found moderate success on Portable consoles specially in Japan, now Capcom tries the opposite (surprise, they already tried and failed) and expect to hit it out of the park? please...

It's not a doom train, just doesn't make sense. I didn't see people excited looking for more info on MH at E3, also,I don't think there's much hope with Capcom dropping the ball a lot lately.

Makes perfect sense to me and supporting all the major platforms on top of a global simultaneous release shows me they are taking seriously

And the gameplay video is evidence that this game will be something special

Those who feel miffed need to take the damn blinders off

Not sure that was the reason. They improved the logo and its balance from its previous design, with a subtle reference to the Wild Hunt's Eredin helmet for the 'III'. All written references were still 'The Witcher 3'.

Their adverts always said "The Witcher: Wild Hunt." Including the last E3 videos and the promo tours like Conan.

They're not abandoning the Japanese market at all. But hey, may the egg rest on your face in two years time when Japan is flocking to stores in order to buy the next MH game for Switch.

I know we've discussed this before, but man... that's nearly comically late.

No (new) portable entry for 2+ years is one hell of a gamble for a market that is so caustic and turbulent at the moment.

Oh yeah I totally agree that western Switch owners get the shaft. Poor planning on Capcom's part for sure, but maybe they'll throw us a bone.

Some people still haven't come to terms with this game not releasing on their platform of choice.

To be honest I don't see what the big deal is with the name change. Its clearly a step up from the other games.

Japan is getting XX on switch in august

We dont know what future plans for switch are right now so its pointless to speculate the timeline until we get evidence

That said they still have a portable team who has likely already started on their next title

The 3DS would've grown into Nintendo's next handheld. It's not like the PS4/XBO are going to last forever either. It's a nonsensical reason

Woulda, shoulda, coulda. Unless you are a time traveller or fortune teller there is no way you will know how the game would have done on an alleged handheld with no install base yet. Console (especially PS4) has a massive install base so of course it makes sense from a business perspective.

This was greenlit before any console had a *massive install base* except the 3DS but no one expected it to refuse to die on the back of Pokemon GO become a worldwide phenomenon. The pivot west isn't/wasn't just on a whim, its because consoles have completely collapsed in Japan.

So why are we fighting over whether or not the game will bomb? As a die hard MH fan I'm never been so hyped and happy, I believe the majority of MH fans are with me?

The non MH fan are predicting it will bomb? Well good for you, I'm glad you enter a topic of a game that doesn't interest you just to claim it will bomb.

To the MH fans that are happy can we please ignore these people and enjoy what we are seeing?

OT: I knew that was the reasoning behind the name. You don't enter/expand a new market with a number as high as 5, makes zero sense.

It makes sense. Mario games stopped being numbered a long long time ago but eveyone still understands what the next game is.

Because it would destroy any western sales potential for a game they want to actually sell in the West.

Western Gamers have shown they have no problem paying monthly fees for stupid shit. Look at Mobile games,MMORPGs, Xbox Live (Gold) and PS+ as proof.

Yes, even mh on wii was making sense from a business perspective.
That's why many people think, they've learnt from this..

So they pretty much confirmed that a main series MH game is still skipping the Switch entirely. How baffling.

this is Capcom, no surprise here. not to say they won't port the thing to Switch. So don't lose your hope and keep praying.

Provided it's not a port of MHW, do you really expect the Monster Hunter team to deliver a new MH game for the Switch from the ground-up only a year after releasing MHW?

I do, yes. Unless we're to believe that the Monster Hunter X/Gen team has been twiddling their thumbs since November 2015. It's not as if MHXX would have taken that much manpower to produce.

That wouldn't be surprising. Once the assets are done, not much is left to do.

Exactly. Taking into account it'll also likely be a 5th Gen game, it'll no doubt share assets and features with Monster Hunter World, whatever it ends up being. Capcom isn't afraid to milk this franchise after all.

always

but seems like they are a overabundance on monster hunter fans on neogaf which are more up it in arms about the games being not portable, more then the japanese fanbase which is super funny to me

go figure why

Yeah, I do find it hilarious and incredibly transparent. Nothing wrong with being disappointed that this isn't going to be portable, but some of the reactions over the past week have been nothing short of ridiculous and dramatic.

Real monster hunter fans will play it regardless the system it's on.

That's how it goes right?

I mean

they have been pretty clear that they have multiple teams

The second team built Generations and are likely already on the next project. Presumably a 5th gen portable entry

Whether the west gets access to that game.... thats another story

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

You and I both know there is nothing else on PS4, Xbox One, or PC worth playing that would justify owning even one of those systems as well!!

People are excited about it, just not you. It was the most talked about E3 game on Twitter: https://www.kotaku.com.au/2017/06/what-was-twitters-favourite-game-of-e3-2017/

lol its so abundantly clear who the people against this game are

Multiplatform is better for every consumer clearly

The haters bias sticks out like a sore thumb. This is the most inclusive game in the series ever.

Worldwide at the same time, multiplatform, online, cross region.

Like there is really only one reason you would be upset as an MH fan at this point.

I don't even know how these are measured anymore. Every thread about E3 social media reactions seems to report something different. None of it makes sense to me

They tell you, they specifically followed the #E32017 tag and looked for what was associated with it:

According to an analysis of tweets worldwide that used the #E32017 hashtag - but not including chatter that done under publisher preferred hashtags, like #BE3 or #SonyE3 for instance - the most discussed game was Monster Hunter World.
Read more at https://www.kotaku.com.au/2017/06/what-was-twitters-favourite-game-of-e3-2017/#S8pPxr9SvTpORbUR.99

Which is a fairly stupid sample-limiter (on top of further limiting layers to cull down the data) but its also trying to analyze twitter of all things and you have to add quantifiers otherwise the data web is far to spread to actually have any hope of parsing.

Brandwatch is probably the most robust one since it covers all (more) social.

I'm just so fucking happy we are finally get a console MH after so long.

It's a shame there is so much negativity going around.

It stems heavily from the XX decisions. Its pissed a lot of people off and that reverberates all over (+ original rumor poisoning the well).

I think so too. In an ideal world this would be on Switch as well. I imagine that Capcom is working on a contingency plan.

You guys are going way too far out of your way to paint this game in a negative light

Its really showing and its kind of disgusting

Ill admit I wasnt the happiest person when we entered the 3DS era but i dont think I was this shitty about it

who knows maybe i was but I still bought and played 4U and Generations

Agreed. It's a big risk, but one I feel they NEED to take and it could leave the series in an even better position than it was before, potentially. So far the game is looking shit hot and sure, it's not coming to Switch but we're getting a console Monster Hunter for current gen systems. How is that NOT hype?

Isn't that exactly why they scrambled to get XX on Switch?

That's supposed to keep JP/Portable/Nintendo players quiet. Even then they're kind of handling it badly...

You were pretty bad at times haha!

To an extent, yeah. Although Capcom isn't crazy enough to completely abandon their portable market. They've done some crazy things, but that is something they just wouldn't do. We just need to accept that right now, their focus is on World and fans of portable MH will more than likely get the game they want in due time.

Wasn't that God of War and/or Spiderman?? These things are getting confusing every day.

Look at their quantifier they only looked at a tiny sample of tweets on #E32017, its such a strict limiter that its potentially meaningless. They needed to disclose how many data points that generated and that they were able to sample.

I think so too. In an ideal world this would be on Switch as well. I imagine that Capcom is working on a contingency plan.

I mean, XX Switch seems like a fairly last minute decision given the odd timing of it. So that's probably part of it.

XX as a whole is a mess, lol.

Rumourmonger dripping with poison: The Devil, Sony, has signed some sort of disgusting business money deal for a Monster Hunter exclusive!! *howling*

Yeah well it was a tough time. I like this new multiplarform shift and as a switch owner I really hope it doesnt get left out

Farewell 3DS and good riddance. I will stand hard with all switch owners campaigning for localization

Any true fan wants all games to come here

The salt is really old at this point.

Monster Hunter is now a proper franchise, with the proper genre trappings and philosophies, the previous games were objectively inferior.

Switch, PS4, 3DS, it doesn't matter. This is the future and the present of video games, if you don't like how it works, you are a minority and not worth AAA video game franchises.
