Monster Hunter World (XB1/PS4, PC later, Early 2018) E3 info [Up: Effectively MH5]

I'm pretty sure Capcom were one of the few devs that have gotten the dev kit early. They requested Nintendo to add more ram. We know they only took a month to port MT framework to the Switch.

Either the rumors are true or Capcom are being Capcpom.

I have no reason to believe they plan on abandoning the switch especially since it gets XX this August

Switch version is likely just behind because they started this game 4 years ago

Capcom is playing smart with MH switch. Wait till majority of MH world is completed then lift the assets directly from World into Switch, then throw in a
2 or 3 new monsters, a new map ,tweak and remove a few features and then called it MH portable 5. They pulling a MHP3rd.

Why are we talking about the Switch.

Kind of weird not having the hud take up the whole screen.

The HUD and UI are easily my favourite things about MHW right now. I can't tell you enough how badly needed they are. With the quick item access and quick ammo changing, gunners will feel a lot better to play as in this.

And yeah, it's nice that the map doesn't take a huge chunk of the screen.

If theres an option, I'd still probably play it with the map overlaid transparent over half my screen

The might just call it MHW portable or more simply... just port MHW over

I like how you operate from the starting position that it exists

I've seen this logic posted over and over and it's weird. Wanting more RAM isn't necessarily a sign monster hunter is coming. More RAM is just generally preferred... for most games. Capcom doesn't just make monster hunter games. They have several games running on MT Framework.

But I just looked it up, and according to this, the ask was related to their new RE Engine... so in other words, it was just Capcom wanting to future proof Switch against their new investments into their new engine. A more long term consideration.

Capcom's Masaru Ijuin explained during the conference that part of the need for that memory is about optimizing the RE Engine to be able to operate in both docked and portable states. The Switch's flexibility is a huge selling point for consumers, but it seems like it might be a big hurdle for developers.

We are talking about making 4 million potential MH handheld sales in Japan,Capcom isn't stupid to give it up. Did Capcom gave up on the portable sales when they announced MH3 for Wii? No,they announced MHP3rd for the PSP a year later and sold nearly 5 million copies from that. That is 3 to 4 million more than MH3.

Not to mention there are 2 MH teams. The main team that is doing World and the portable team that did all the psp portable games and X/XX. The portable team sure ain't twiddling theirs thumbs doing nothing, they are already in development for a new MH game.

All this I said is based on what happened before and it's not farfetched to come up with such a conclusion.

Redditors are obsessing over an image from the website. It does seem to suggest a wyvern that responds to the full moon (game does have day/night cycle). But there's also a sea monster and underwater combat is confirmed to not be in? I guess it could be like nakarkos or something but fight you from off the shore. Or it means nothing and it's just a picture

That being said, there is one mechanic that I am wondering if it's working like I think it's working: mounting. Rather than the free climb of Dragon's Dogma, it looks like there are three anchor points on Rathalos and Anjanath, corresponding to their head, back and tail. I could be going crazy, but it seems to me that the weight of the hunter on either the head or tail creates an animation state on the monster that lowers that part closer to the ground, so I'm wondering if this is their way of finally adding a serious metagame to mounting that wasn't present before, as it could mean that there's now a benefit for everyone in the party while the monster is mounted, especially for those with weapons that wouldn't be able to reach those heights otherwise.

I noticed this as well and am excited that it works this way. Sometimes when playing the free-climb of Dragon's Dogma - I found myself fighting an awkward position I was clung to - like under the armpit - spending a lot of time tweaking camera and fighting to climb to the weakpoints. Having a system with specific attach points allows a hunter to quickly get to making the decisions of where to attack - and prevents the situation I mentioned in DD - where I'd imagine would even be more complex with the breadth of sizes and speeds of monsters in MH. It feels like an upgrade to the MH mounting mechanic. I didn't notice the mounting causing parts of the body to lower - but if it does - I'm even more excited about this. Going to watch the vids again ...
