Final Fantasy Five Four Job Fiesta 2017: Don't talk about the #FifthJob

Man, I'm glad you told me that--15+ years of playing this game and I literally never even realized there was a flail there. Even with it, battles are dragging on, but it definitely beats everyone just holding a staff.

Beat Magissa, and I'm appreciating WM's decent early-game support moveset--Silence and Protect both served me well in that fight.

EDIT: I'm eating my words about appreciating support movesets now, lol. Got my Water Crystal job, and it's Time Mage. I could really use an offensive job or two in the mix here :p

That's one hell of a mage duo.

Time Mage can easily carry through the leg of the game after the water crystal. Rod breaking pretty easily deals with Liquid Flame, Ifrit, and Byblos. If you get Bard or Ranger then Sandworm could prove to be annoying, but with your healing capabilities it shouldn't be too difficult.

I've tried this a couple times in the past on Normal, never finished though.

Should I stick to Normal? Do people prefer one of the styles over the others?

Depends on what you are looking for. If you want something easier you might try 750 for reasons I mentioned here (also see Man God's post below it).

But for the most part a normal run is pretty much the standard. If you don't find yourself enjoying it enough to finish then doing a different type of run probably won't help much. If it's a matter of getting stuck, just ask for help or use a FJF guide.

Registering my first tweet to Gilgabot and I'm not getting a response. : / What am I doing wrong? I'm going from the link on the official website.

Got it! Blue mage first crystal. o_O

So this is my first time doing the fiesta, and I got thief and berserker. I'm up to the steamship. Any advice to get through this besides grinding? Can I go steal some hi-potions anywhere?

Poltergeists in the Fire Powered Ship have Hi-Potions as a common steal.

Made it through the fire ship and to the ancient library. My fire job is beastmaster, so I guess I need to read up on monster release abilities. I only had the patience to steal 70 hi-potions. Hope that's enough to last me.

Tried W2 Exdeath a few times, determined my bottleneck was having nobody with White5. Only the white mage had reflect so I wasn't able to keep it up in the second half of the fight.

I did have two characters that had White4 though, so I just finished grinding out the ABP and now all three non-Berserkers will have it. Berserker is worse than dead weight here since it draws out deadly dispel counters. Not having blink and shell up during the first phase leads to 1HKOs.

Exdeath down with my team of Thief/Berserker/Bard/Samurai. Gonna see about going for Shinryu and Omega too.

Reasonably smooth run with a few annoyances, the combination of Hero's Rime and Zeninage is disgustingly powerful. In the final fight I had two party members singing Hero's Rime and Swift Song during the first phase, while the third healed with items and the fourth... was my Berserker, so they did what Berserkers do. By the time I got to Neo Exdeath, I was dealing 8-9k with Zeninage and also getting turns incredibly quickly. He didn't even get off Grand Cross or Almagest.

Also cheesed W2 Exdeath by having my Bard use Hide while my other party members, equipped with Reflect Rings, got zombified. Exdeath then proceeded to slowly kill himself via the Death of One Thousand Reflected Spells. Slow, but effective.

Skipped most of World 3 as it wasn't relevant for my party. Pretty much just did the mandatory stuff, got three legendary weapons, farmed gil for Hermes Sandals then went straight to the Rift. Oh, and got the Magic Lamp, but in the end I only actually used it for Twintania.

Well My Quadzerker team has hit the roadblock of the Sandworm. I've levelled up to 29 so far but I've read it takes a team at level 40 to stand a chance. Once I get the Earth Crystal I should be able to fly through the rest of the game as I have a chemist from both Wind and Fire Crystals as well as what ever the Earth Crystal gives me.

I just finished beating Exdeath on my second/classic run. My monk and black mage were pretty much the only real damage dealers, as the red mage being capped at the spells it has meant that it was a struggle to even keep up with healing via X-magicing Cura. My thief was largely on support with throwing out as much healing items as she possibly could. It especially got rough during the final stretch of the fight, when Neo Exdeath starts spamming meteo and stuff. I actually wiped at that point during my first attempt. Pretty sure the second attempt because the red mage got zombified right near the end and started soaking a lot of his single/random target attacks.

Either way, Classic is complete. Now I guess it's time to decide if I want to do a third...

...let's be real, the real question is what my third run will be.

edit:
Oh, hah, I just realized after I turned in my shot of beating Neo Exdeath for my second run, I accidentally switched up the classes that Faris and Galuf/Krile were supposed to be. Whoops.

I had a similar situation last year where I had all my good damage classes locked until crescent island in one run and earth crystal in another. Just gotta grind. Luckily I love grinding.

First run this year: Blue mage, summoner, bard, monk.

Easy mode get... Can't remember if confusion song can get me the important blue magic though.

I don't think I'll do a Berskerker risk chaos run again. It always ends up the same way. 4 zerkers up to Earth Crystal (this time up to Krile) and then end up getting a job where you can't utilize its strength because all your damage dealers are zerkers.
I mean, I have a Chemist, but I'm literally just spamming revive and throwing hi-potions.

I've gotta try a non-berskerker run after this one.

It will get you White Wind, but if you already have your earth job you already missed the first opportunity. It will also get you Mighty Guard.

You can't get 1000 needles until W3 though I think. You also miss the first opportunity for L2 Old in the Barrier Tower, but you can get it at the second opportunity in Exdeath's Castle.

Little less important IMO but you also miss L3 Flare in the Barrier Tower, and you can get that against W2 Exdeath but it's easier to just do it in the Pyramid. You probably don't want to be taking Flares while fighting him.

So I'm a deep way into my third run, which I did as a no-750 upgrade run. I ended up with Knight->Mystic Knight->Ninja->Dragoon

Having my dragoons dual wield and then spending all their time jumping has made a lot of encounters pretty trivial, but they end up taking a lot of damage between jumps. I can tell some of the later bosses are going to get rough.

I was that dumb, for a few fiesta runs in the past, I did try to learn flare from him. Though, since it's been a while, I can't remember why I wanted L3 flare so badly. lol

Blue mage has always been about White Wind and Mighty Guard in my memory.

Thanks for the answer though, this is truly an easy mode first run.

Omniscient seems to be impossible with my setup. Can't even get my Mime job. Rip run.
I sent 2 Berserkers up there not knowing what was gonna happen and I hadn't saved for a few hours.

Ended up with bard/dragoon/ranger/bard for this year's chaos run. Not sure how I feel about the second bard (probably should have done #regpurechaos) as there are still classes I haven't gotten to try in a fiesta. Gonna try and job fair it up for another random.

What happens if you're lucky enough as you went #regchaos #upgrade and then for wind, water and fire job slots, you got one of the earth jobs? Does that mean you'll be basically doing an one-job run at that point?

Just wondering.

No, upgrade allows you to choose when you get your next job. So if your wind assignment is an earth job, I believe that means you can freelance all the way to earth to get it. I think the only restrictions are that you can't go back to a previous job, and you have to use all four(//five) jobs.

Technically, if your wind assignment is an earth job and you unlock another job in Upgrade before you get to it, you "skip" that first job. So if you unlocked all of them and they were all earth jobs, you "skipped" wind, water, and fire and only have one job for the rest of the game.

That said, if you did do that due to not understanding the rules, you could probably just start from the first one and upgrade when you like. You might get glared at since it kind of goes against the spirit of a proper upgrade run (since you will already know what you are upgrading to), but the game is supposed to be fun and doing a single job run due to a rule misinterpretation may not be fun.

Decided to do a popular run.

Wind crystal gave me Summoner, which meant freelancing it until Garula. Used the hidden frost rod in Carwen to 1-shot Magissa, then used her whip to stun lock Garula.

Water crystal gave me Geomancer. So, now with Summoner actually available, I'm running through the Fire-powered ship with four Summoners. On the plus side, they all have frost rods so Liquid Flame will go down quickly.

Tip for Liquid Flame for No750-ers: when he goes into the tornado form, don't attack and he will keep casting Curaga until he runs out of MP. Once that happens, go all out.

Knight, Summoner, Bard, Dragoon.

Just finished Fork Tower. Things have surprisingly been easier that expected so far without healing. Though I'm sure end-game will be a different story.

I wouldn't worry. You have Golem, Carbuncle and Mighty March.

Yeah... Exdeath ended up being a cakewalk. Didn't even bother with the insta-kills on the back or bottom parts. Hero's Rime never got interrupted, so I just beat down each part with 7k Brave Blade hits, 5k Jumps, and 4k Bahamuts and Syldras.

Quick question: doing a reg run and got knight as my first job. Am I only allowed to spec one of my char as knight until the next crystal or do I have to spec them all?

You have to spec all of your characters as Knights until the next crystal. From there you just need to make sure you have at least 1 of each job in your party, but the entire party must be compromised of only those jobs (ie, if you get Summoner you could have 3 Knights and 1 Summoner, or 2 Knights 1 Summoner, or 1 Knight 3 Summoners).

A natural run is the only type where you would just set Bartz as Knight and leave the rest Freelancer.

Finally took down the sandworm with my quadzerkers. I had enough of grinding and decided to take him on at level 39. It took about 10 attempts but it's finally over. It was so frustrating watching my team get to a great start and then just miss him for the rest of the fight. Time to fly though the rest of the game now.

What are the best places to grind for ABP without gaining experience in W3 (or any world, but right now I'm in 3)?

Using the southwest corner of the map for Gel Fish and Nix but the encounter rate is relatively low and Vilia are annoying.

qERhZAt.png

Not a lot to say about this one.

bWaKBpW.png

A little slow but effective. Holy was dealing around 2900 on average, Thundaga was doing around 2200.

Popular Fifth Job run now. Got Bard, lol. And Summoner. So two jobs in and I'm already looking at an easy triple crown,

First run where I've been stuck. Bard/Dragoon/Mystic Knight/Ranger. The crystals (fire one in particular) are wrecking me. Didn't get a fire ring or fire shield. Is there any hope?

Exhumed

Did you get the Aegis or Flame Shield before reaching the crystals?

Messed up and got the Aegis.

Actually just got them. Got lucky and the Mystic Knight got low enough for Shell to activate. He was able to knock them out with drain sword without being one shot by the 🔥.

Just beat Exdeath too. Very wierd fight. Zombie bard and zombie ranger took 90% of the hits. Bard and ranger couldn't touch mystic Knight. Turns out the Hayate Bow multiple hit only targeted Exdeath even while zombied. Drain sword kept the mystic Knight alive while the zombie ranger did most of the damage.

Berserker as my Fire job. Great addition to an already great set of jobs.

Went to get Death Sickles. Second battle. Wtf?

Dragoon from the earth crystal. At least the lame job is the one that is going to get replaced.

I went for a natural run and got Monk/Mystic Knight/Ranger/Dancer...

It's a more difficult run because of unreliable healing... Any tips??

I really hate how there's no potion tier between hi-potion and normal potions. Normal potions quickly become straight trash, so if you don't have a healing mage of some sort in your party you're difficulty is drastically increased until you get some access to hi-potions. Granted this is probably in part because the game wasn't developed with the expectation that people would play like this, but still annoying

A 150-200HP restoring mid potion available starting in Karnak would be a gamechanger.

But if we're talking about making changes then having potion effectiveness be level-based would probably be a more interesting balance change. That could allow for a more gradual decrease in effectiveness, so potions aren't stupidly overpowered at the start but still at least somewhat effective by the time you are somewhere like the Library.

Gilgamesh on the bridge always proves to be a roadblock, but I guess that's my fault when I'm level 10 when I reach him.

There goes Fire to Earth! Since Dancer was my third job (Pure Chaos) I stuck with the same team. Lenna the Freelancer got access to a bunch of amazing options: Healing Staff, Elemental Bows, Blitz Whip, Ashura, so she was no slouch. The rest did their thing as monks kicking and focusing (the healing skill may have come in handy if it wasn't for the freelancer w/ staff).

I didn't know Healing Staff "cured" confuse, a nice touch! Probably would have saved me some Phoenix Downs and gil during the airship defense system takedown. Cannon gave me the most trouble, had to use some elixirs I had stockpiled. I probably would have won with full party survival if I hadn't accidentally shot Faris with a bow instead of healing her, oops.

Earth job is... Berserker, oh god no!! But thankfully I have the #fifthjob coming up. :) I'll probably avoid using it entirely until I get Galuf back (someone correct me if I'm wrong on how it works when you have less than 4 party members please)!

I may dislike Monk because of how badly it falls off in world 3 but man alive if it isn't among the best jobs for the very early part of the game. Barefisted is learned with very little AP. Focus absolutely wrecks the early bosses (up until Sandworm!) and their weapons frankly scale better than almost everything in world one. Sick of dealing with Berserker weapons? Give them barefisted! Don't mind putting your white/time mages in the front row for a bit? Barefisted. Kick is by far the most efficient way to grind out wolves for money, you won't ever need to go back to town.

Ah, going through the early game with a party of Knights reminds me of the time I went through it with Monks, only much more expensive. Attack everything, and heal with potions when needed. The lobster, Siren, and Magissa/Forza fell pretty quickly. Garula managed to wipe out my party the first time, but the second time I faced it, I was lucky enough that its AI didn't use Rush very much and mostly attacked my Guarding characters.

With the Water Crystal in hand, Gilgabot assigned me a new job, another new one for me, Time Mage! It should be a great counter-balance for my Physical-heavy Knights, as now I can break Rods and do some light healing via Regen. I just have to remember to buy plenty of breakable Rods before leaving World 1, since I didn't do that last year with my Red Mage, which slowed my progress a bit when I realized that World 2 only sells Bio rods (nigh-useless against the tougher bosses).
