Being at the launch of a popular handheld launch probably wouldn't of been a negative at least. Don't see MHXX selling better with how Capcom handled it than if they did that.

Actually, it would be the same result. If Switch port would be available at launch, then they won't be able to sell this game twice for some hardcore fans.

Man if they sort the stock issues and keep a steady stream of quality games up at least first party it'll sell like crazy.

Man it really does show how mediocre PS4 is selling in Japan.

Japanese support for the system has been great but I'm betting some of these Japanese companies thought it would do a lot better in Japan judging by all the support.

It can't even pass the PS3 which had a nightmare of a launch.

Nintendo should go third party though, clearly, they don't have a future with their own hardware.
I wish I bought stock in Nintendo when everyone was doubting them, I saw this coming.
Welp, I guess it's time to put these going-third-party plans away for a while...

So either a PSP, NGC or 3DS. Only time will tell.

This is good news as the console market in Japan is going down in numbers but Switch being a hybrid console does work and helps. I'm interested in Switch's WW sales though, definitely no PS4 numbers but hope that it's selling well too!

Sony knew this was going to happen which is why they decided to skip out launching it there day one.

Not really because their is a lack of Switch units in Japan otherwise it would of crossed the million mark a while back.

Its literally having lottery ticket to see who can purchase a Switch.

Edit: So we really don't know how much it could sell in the end. Only time will tell.

Vita barely did better than PS4 and it's a handheld lol. Sony was just not giving Japan what they want apparently.

You can't make comparisons quite so much because you're missing the context of Nintendo not being able to get Switches out. Idk how they were when Gamecube or 3DS first released.

Great software numbers...
Arms already doing well. Zelda and MK8 doing great. Splatoon is going to change the game.

Most likely have sold more if there were more units, hope the situation gets better for them I think the Switch has alot of potential.

We still do not know its ceiling because it's still out of stock.

This is a better problem than trying to figure out what the floor is though. Much better. Everyday it is sold out with decent stock, we get closer to Wii like level sales, and then some. Summer is also the slowest time for videogames. Even the Wii was easier to find during this time of the year. Imagine the holidays....

It's not too surprising though. Remember how many PS3<->PS4 cross platform titles there were at launch, up until a few months ago even. Also Vita<->PS4 cross platform titles. Gamers in Japan were given another, cheaper option in most cases instead of buying a new console, with a more expensive version of the game. (Game prices are not set here)

Couple that in with the various opinions and financial circumstances of people and country size. Stuff will always sell slower in Japan comparatively.

Switch should pass 3DS launch aligned in a few weeks due to Splatoon 2 launch. It's a question if the Switch can keep up with the 3DS after Week 25 when 3DS had it's price drop. I think if Nintendo can sort out the supply issues - Summer Vacation and Splatoon 2 can ensure it keeps up with the 3DS launch aligned.

Just for reference below are the 3DS numbers after the price drop in Japan during it's first year. Switch can definitely pass 4 million by the end of 2017 provided Nintendo sorts out the manufacturing the supply issues they have been running into.

July with Splatoon 2, August with MHXX. Both franchises that are beloved in japan.

It's gonna be crazy.

I think downplaying this game's success in Japan is pretty funny. There was absolutely no guarantee it was going to sell this well.

? I wasn't downplaying it, it did very well for itself. I was questioning the sentiment that it would not do well, when the factors aligned make it very obvious...the hype was insane and its a great game on a new nintendo handheld system
