Some of you people thinking this leads to homebrew or piracy makes me wonder whether you know what a SDK is.

This is good for small legitimate developers. As long as the Switch is locked down regarding exploits and unauthorized access to its native methods piracy/emulators/anything not authorized by Nintendo will not occur.

They seem to go hand-in-hand. The moral choice is yours, obviously.

No, "white hat" homebrewers respect licencing.
They won't go near an official SDK because it ultimately compromises any work they do as being based on stolen code.

They will be trying to do a 'clean room' implementation.

Pirates won't give a fuck.

I love how GAF pretends that they don't use homebrew from piracy, and that y'all actually dump your roms from cartridges when you emulate games.

This is horrible news. I hope Nintendo nips it in the bud.

People have on this very website even have a thread dedicated to it, in any case this is nothing and if anything comes from it it's gonna take years.

Anything that saves people from using the lens of the Switch prolonging its life is always good. Plus less moving parts internally.

Shit like this just makes life harder for us developers because it makes platform holders less trusting, all it takes is one idiot.

Don't celebrate it. If you want open platforms then lobby the platform holders.

Edit - Also it seems there is a massive amount of confusion in this thread as to what an SDK is.

There are a few people on GAF who rip their own games, but yea, I agree with you. They are a very small minority of users.

I mean they won't stay legitimate for long if Nintendo ever found out they were using a stolen SDK to prototype stuff with.

That's probably a bit of a deal breaker with them.

That;s why it should be open to begin with. Charging for a SDK is just the platform holder being greedy.

Whether an SDK is open or not doesn't reflect on the polatform's likeness to be broken or exposed or whatever.

Some years ago I got a ban for articulating concerns regarding piacy in a 3DS "homebrew" thread for derailing. Banned from GAF for three weeks on Wii U launch day (thanks Mod!)...

So I'll walk myself out of this thread.

The people hemming and hawing about Splatoon 2 should present a plausible scenario where a leaked SDK = cheaters in online play or it's just Fears from Your Ass™.

Can't tell which SDK version this is, but if it isn't 1.3.1 then it's useless to UE4 developers. Not sure about Unity developers.

Not a mod, just a bot.
This thread is mostly going to be false homebrew=piracy equivalency garbage, which is against the rules. Those of you who have done so should sleep with one eye open; action could come at any time. I advise that you not engage in such behavior in the future.
