[Kotaku UK] Paypal Just Did a Mass Chargeback on PSN Transactions

I bought 12months of Ps+ membership on the 9th June, yet the payment is still pending in my account - just checked and wasn't cancelled, bit still seems odd?
I bought Horizon Zero Dawn on the 9th June and that's a pending payment for me to. I also pre-ordered Micro Machines today that payment seems to be fine

Holy shit, this must have been why I couldn't check out with PayPal these last 2 days.

Thank god it didn't let me, I would have been pissed if I caught a ban for that shit. Plus I found 10% off cards on ebay
I had a weird issue last week, but no problem last night.

PS UK CS here. We've no idea what caused it, anything else is speculation.

Hundreds of people in a queue on call, but amazingly, everyone is incredibly understanding. Not a single person going off their nut at us, at least not in my experience. Not even asking for compensation.

And to that one person saying that we don't refund digital pre-orders, you're dumb. Call up support. We do. You just need to not have accessed anything relating to it, such as a free pre-order theme or avatar. And its a card refund, not a wallet refund.

BAH GAWD people are so misinformed about how PS Support works.
Your rude behaviour is a perfect example of how bad and horrible the PS CS in Europe is.

Thought you can't buy games that you got via ps+ unless it lapses.

Definitely has happened for me before, there was one time a PS+ game showed up at regular price in my cart a couple years ago for some reason and I wasn't really paying attention during checkout and just blanked out and ended up paying regular price for it

Called Sony a few minutes later and... they refunded my money with no questions asked?

I just bought Assault Suits Leynos through PayPal yesterday. Thankfully, the transaction was completed, so I have nothing to worry about...for now.

I'm gonna hold off buying stuff on PSN till this shit is sorted out.

Probably a glitch I guess, so that might be why they didn't ask questions. Or the CS rep didn't care. I'm on the web store and I can't buy any of the ps+ games.

Mine was maybe about 1-2 weeks ago. I bought Uncharted collection and it just got charged back.

Literally about 2 hours ago I bought more games on PSN using paypal and they went through fine. Still banned. Not sure how it works so maybe you were one of the lucky few.

Huh, well I didn't sign into my PSN via my PS4, but I didn't see any kind of notification online when signing in. I too completed a transaction, so I guess I'll see what that means when I get home...

Once again glad I don't have any payment info connected to my PSN account. No matter what turns out to be the cause of this - I won't have to deal with Sony's awful CS reps.
With how easy and fast it is to buy PSN credit on amazon and add i never, ever use my bank/credit or paypal on my PS4.

2 of my buddies got banned before this and they are steaming hot because they just per-ordered Crash and wanted to play it.

How one speaks or acts anonymously on a message board is not quite the same how they'd act as CS. chill out.
Also he's right and wasn't really rude anyways

Probably annoying working for a company and seeing the misinformation and conclusion jumping going on in the thread. Thats a pretty reasonable response all things considered.

To this day I still question why people don't just buy prepaid cards or codes online via Amazon or Ebay.

Why use a third party to make purchases if you know shit can go wrong anytime.

It's the best solution. I find that little extra time it takes to hop off to amazon and buy the credit is just right for staving off impulse buys I really shouldn't be making. Hardly a hassle and as safe as it gets.

Actually I've found 60EffPeeEss to be pretty helpful in a thread or two on GAF, using his/her own personal time to help out with the knowledge they have thanks to their employment position. "Bad and horrible" would describe much of the misinformation that gets bandied about as fact, and I'd be equally as frustrated seeing it if I knew better. It might seem harsh to refer to people as 'dumb' for doing this, but he/she isn't doing that in their capacity as a CS worker, they're doing it as a GAFer, and as far as that goes it's pretty tame stuff.

Don't you agree that it's strange that people need to go out of their way to not risk a ban?

Because most things end up with either money left over or not enough money if you're using a prepaid card/code. It's not the best option if you're on a budget.

Could this be a glitch or something from the "Pay by Paypal and get £5 in your wallet" offer they had like a week ago?

Pretty sucky for those that took the offer up.

Not everybody is banned you know. Simple screw up they'll fix.

They've done recalls and destruction of disc, did you also have such comments then?

What recalls of discs? Also I'm pretty sure recalls of video games don't have Swat teams kicking in your doors to forcifully take the disc alongside everything else in your collection because, essentially, that's this is.

Yep. Been in that position many times where people talk crazy shit about my occupation without knowing anything about it. It's very frustrating to get misrepresented.

Yeah but they don't come round to your house and take back everything you previously bought from them.

Sony doesn't take your physical items away. Your digital items are tied to the service, in which if a person actually committed the chargeback, that person should be penalized for it.

Not more than a half half dozen posts above yours one of those original statements made in jest was proven false.

Some companies assume the customer has committed fraud and must prove their innocence.
Amazon understands a chargeback as part of the process and even informs sellers as such.

So you're saying people should keep doing chargebacks because they won't get penalized, and Amazon won't do anything to your account even if you have committed thousands of dollars of chargebacks with proven guilt?

Steam came from a alternate universe?

Steam does it too.

LOL trying to defend this shit. Every time I had an issue of this kind with Amazon, they offered an apology to me and no excuses. As it should be.

Cliftface Sucker?

I just don't understand how someone like you is working on a Customer service.

You should be working on a farm. As a mud.

You're advocating the use of a third party right before you say people shouldn't use third parties due to the risks involved.

So you're defending the needless complete banning of an account instead of just a restriction to one specific game, using the fallacy that implies wanting fair practice means you want criminals to go free and you're literally wrong with the last point?

Damn.

You a classy dude, huh?

I trust that Sony will get this fixed before it comes a problem. They're on a bad PR streak atm and they don't need this rn.

Do you even know what "this shit" is?

I doubt paypal is getting your Amazon account banned on a regular basis (since you say "every time") with chargeback.

Damn.

If you purposely did a chargeback against a service for one product that you bought multiple digital products from, you're the criminal and should get your entire account banned.

He is, coming in here presenting himself as a customer representative and calling people dumbs?

I didn't see you calling him out for that ?
Or do you maybe work with him?

Because I don't have a problem with it? He's not talking to me through a phone line as a representative of PlayStation now, he's on an internet forum.

You're overreacting to the stupidest thing, you most definitely are the dumb one.

You guys work for Sony or something?

He came in here with his rude behavior and calling people for dumb and you react to me for calling him out?

Just wow.

Why? This blanket banning is what ends with shitshows like this where innocent people are losing their entire accounts (temporarily, but they shouldn't in the first place) because of a terrible policy. If you intentionally chargeback for a single game, limit the account to that game; if you chargeback repeatedly, ban the account.

You insulting me for a Sony representative who called a customer dumb? Really?

If you're not working on Sony than I really feel bad for you.
