This was posted in another thread (the Media Create Sales thread), but I figured it deserved a bit more exposure.

During Nintendo's 77th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, held June 29, 2017, five directors were elected to the Board of Directors. The numbers below:

Tatsumi Kimishima: 97.70 %
Shigeru Miyamoto: 97.59 %
Shinya Takahashi: 97.65 %
Shuntaro Furukawa: 97.65 %
Ko Shiota: 97.65 %
Source: https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2017/170703.pdf

The approval rating of Mr. Kimishima last year was 87.14 %. You can view the voting results for last year here.

I mean there's not much you could really expect them to be doing better at this point, especially compared to where they were and where they have to ramp up to.

How much of Nintendo's recent success was driven by Kimishima? Surely Switch and mobile gaming was spearheaded by Iwata? Maybe the mini classics line?

Seems reasonable. Like Kaz he steer the ship clear from certain disaster. Looking forward to seeing Nintendo keep their momentum.

Obviously Iwata started the transition to the Switch/mobile era but Kimishima has been in charge for almost 2 years. He is the guy that had to actually launch these products and make them sell.

This is an annual vote of "Are these people competent enough to be running this company for another year?"

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Kimishima: " lol, they havent even seen Animal Crossing Mobile yet.."

I like the guy, very pragmatic and straight to the point. His HR background probably helped fix a lot of internal struggles at Nintendo. They are releasing games at a fast pace these days.

Until they have blown all their load and the next drought hits in 2019 :(

Nintendo stocks have been dropping recently (since June 29 actually), so I'm guessing this didn't really mean much in the grand scheme of things.

Well, with Nintendo doing well these days it's hard to not put your confidence in the current president.

I wonder how long he'll stay on the position. Isn't he supposed to be just for the transition? Maybe with how smooth things are going right now he'll be there for the long haul.

I'm not sure I understand your point. The stock has been pretty much steadily rising since March 2017 -- are you saying the trend since June 29 will continue?

I thought he was just a transition pres.

Is he in place for good now?

Nintendo has been doing well with him for sure.

Ah the pessimism! :)

I do really like Kimishima. Make no mistake, the late Iwata was a great president with some more questionable decisions throughout the Wii U (but that honestly is because of a number of people and reasons) but I am liking Kimi a bit more during the young Switch era.

Let's see where else he'll take Nintendo.

Yep his first year was assumed like that even if it was a choice prepared in advance (after his return from America).

This year and this approval rating confirms he's here for good.
Although it's debatable that NES mini / Switch are true Kimishima's projects, but he at least lead them to release and thus put Nintendo back to the green.

Guy is 65 years old, so I doubt he'll be around for much longer.

I expect Shinya Takahashi to succeed him within the next 2 or 3 years or so. Maybe with him staying on for a few more years in a more supervisory Chairman position or something like that (similar to when Iwata was made President; for the first few years they had a Chairman keeping tabs on him as well).

If this was big news I would expect shares to go up, instead there's a sharp decline after June 29. Not saying the overall positive trend is neccessarily broken though. I was just trying to gauge what this vote actually means for the company (especially since I'm trying to figure out the right time to buy Nintendo stocks myself).

Oh, I see. I don't think it's big news in the stock sense, just news in the sense that "people have more confidence in Nintendo's leadership than they had at first", which is reasonable given their recent success.

He still is a transition pres. for sure (he's not going to be running things for 10+ years, or likely even close - he is in his late 60s after all, he'll be retiring eventually), but the company's in a good place right now, things are smooth and he's running things well, so there's certainly not going to be a rush to find his replacement. They'll take their time to find the right person. They've probably already got a shortlist of folks within the company who they'll be grooming for the position, so it's probably more a matter of prepping the next pres. to be ready whenever everyone's confident in making the transition (i.e. the board thinks the company is in the right place, everyone's confident in the new pick, and Kimishima is ready to retire).

TheIr release strategy has been realy good. They have loads of options for 2018 and 2019. The WiiU failure is helping out with games that never reached their full potential so this gives some more breathing room.

For the time being, it seems. But they'll definitely need to have a very clear plan as to who will succeed him later on; he's 65 after all. Presumably they already do and have somewhat of an idea when.

Wasn't the sharp decline at the same point as it became evident that Nintendo had huge issues delivering Switches to the Japanese market?

Miyamoto with the lowest approval rating.

Guess there aren't a lot of stockholders that are Star Fox Zero fans.

I thought Shibata might make a good successor.

well all in all he has done a decent job

I still wanna see how he will manage long term, since last CEO they had wasn't really very good at that and was more like a likeable one-trick pony

the supply problems are not really the best business card in this sense, but we don't know how much nintendo could have done to avoid them

we will see what happens when supply flow is enough to actually see how many people want the switch and if sales can stay consistent.
