The I bought the DVD/Blu-ray/4k disc and don't want the digital code give away |OT|

Now that I have given away the first ID4, time to watch the digital copy of the sequel someone on GAF was kind enough to give to me last year.
Happy 4th of July, American GAF.

I already have a copy of ID4 but if I had been competing, Buckaroo Banzai would have been my first choice. Laugh while you can monkey boy!

This is an awesome thread that got me into Vudu, actually, so I'll be viewing this thread with interest and see if I have any codes as well of movies I don't want.

A general question about Vudu -- how does Vudu sharing work? Does Vudu allow me to share with any 5 friends and family or do they have to be in the same household? Does sharing give them access to my account (in other ways aside from just viewing my collection)? Does it let them add movies and TV shows I may not want to my collection? Can I remove people later or are they there linked to my account for good? Can I watch a movie or TV show the same time the people I'm sharing with can? Is there any reason not to share an account? Can someone who I share my account with have his or her own account as well that they can or may want to share with me?

Is there a logical reason why you can download Vudu movies on a PS3 but not on XB1?

I'll try and answer some of these questions. Mind you I don't personally share my library, but I have given my login info to family members that access my account. Mind you if you do what I did, they DO have access to things like ordering movies so you have to really trust them if you go that route and accidents have happened. But to what you are asking about, sharing is a bit different:

They don't have to be in the same household to share libraries.

No they don't get access to your account just your movies combine.

I believe so yes, everybody shares the other's movies.

You can remove people and when you do they lose your movies and you lose theirs.

This one I'm not sure. I know that with giving my login info you are limited to 8 devices and nobody can watch the same movie at the same time but it might work differently with library sharing.

I think the way sharing works is you link up your vudu account, and the UV movies sort of combine.

Anyway, somebody an correct the info if I'm wrong. I just saw that nobody answered you so I gave it my best shot. Like I said I've never done it personally.

It's weird. I don't think you can do it on PS4 either, but haven't checked in a while. I wish they would update this is what nice not having to stream everything on my PS3.

Thank you so much for answering! I was thinking about sharing my library with some friends but I didn't want them to add movies I didn't want nor lose access to movies once they left and whatnot.

I've built up a pretty nice collection over the last few days, although my Breaking Bad Barrel Gift Set - Seasons 4-Final code isn't working on Vudu but shows as valid on Sony's site. I contacted Vudu support to hopefully get that resolved.

That happened to me with Monty Python & the Holy Grail. I couldn't redeem the code through Vudu. All I had to do was set up a Sony Pictures account and link it to my UV account. Once I redeemed the code through the Sony account, it showed up in my UV locker and I could watch using Vudu.

I have a UV code for Independance Day Resurgence 4K.

It's UK/IE only. PM me for the code.

Edit: Taken

Thanks for the great op! I'm not looking for a code but I have some from Blu-Ray purchases that I'd like to try and redeem.

However I'm still a bit confused about the whole thing and am looking for a bit of extra guidance before diving in:

1) I'm in Canada, not the US, so it looks like my only real choice is Flixster to redeem UV codes? (Just a bit worried because the op mentions is as "its ok, for a backup app").

2) Since I can only use the code once, is it possible to make the wrong choice? For example, I don't want to accidentally redeem the code and get it locked to my PC where it would be useless. If I redeem the code on Flixsters web page on my desktop instead of via the app, am I stuck with the movie only being authorized on my windows 10 pc?

Basically, I have a Chromecast, and the primary way I pictured watching redeemed movies was on my TV via Chromecast. I have both a Galaxy S6, and a Galaxy Tab A which I use interchangeably. I was hoping I could just use the UV codes on Google Play but I guess that isn't the case, and I'll need a UV app. Given those conditions, is Flixter the right/only choice?

Awesome OP, subscribing :)

A ew things of note:
- Vudu "works" outside the US, as long as you have an US IP.
- Amazon Prime Video is everywhere now, but I think Amazon Video is US only. They also had something akin to instant watch for a bit a few years ago, not sure if they still do.
- Google Play content availability by regions.
- DMA every now and then has a free movie promotion when linking to a new provider, so it's a good idea to not link unless you need to :p

  • Yeah, VPN is always a way around IP blocks, but not everyone is savvy enough to do that for devices.
  • Amazon's "watch now" thing was different than Instawatch in that it only gave you a rental, not a second digital copy. It is no longer offered.
  • Added the Google Play content link to the OP.
  • DMA did that when it launched (got The Incredible, Wreck-It Ralph, and Monsters Inc. that way) but by now it is big enough that they're not likely to do it again with a big title. The last promo was just Piper. Besides, you could always get those by disconnecting and reconnecting the same account. ;)

I'm UK-based, and with a simple tweak to DNS, I can access and watch VUDU on my Samsung TV. I prefer it greatly over Flixster and TalkTalk. The overall video and audio quality is astounding.

If you have an easy (and reliable) way, post it up. I'm sure plenty of non-US folks would appreciate it.

Honestly, this is the one part that confuses me as there is no clear information out there.

It seems like you can add up to five people, and you're supposed to be able to remove them, but I've also read reports that once you use a share slot it's used forever.

I would assume you would see both UV libraries, but the VUDU site also makes mention of some titles not being visible (assuming these are just the DMA and non UV VUDU titles), but it's not clear if they are not visible to all users, or just not visible to the shared user.

The VUDU site is also not clear how purchases get added if you are "client" user.

Is there a logical reason why you can download Vudu movies on a PS3 but not on XB1?

No. Just different client options.

I've built up a pretty nice collection over the last few days, although my Breaking Bad Barrel Gift Set - Seasons 4-Final code isn't working on Vudu but shows as valid on Sony's site. I contacted Vudu support to hopefully get that resolved.

Redeem them on the Sony site. Once added to your UV locker they'll show up elsewhere.

When it doubt, redeem on the studio site.

  • I do a great deal of my redemption in Flixster, even if I prefer other options for playback. Flixster is fine for redemption
  • As long as the storefront is linked to your UV account, it appears in all your linked accounts. The only way to "get locked" is via ecosystem. For example, if you redeem a UV or iTunes code in iTunes, it is then "locked" in iTunes and the code is burned. The same is true in reverse. But the code will not be locked to a specific device within an ecosystem.

Sure. I use Getflix. It’s $5 (£4) a month and gets me access to HBO Now, Hulu, and VUDU. It used to work with Netflix, too, but their support got canned when the DNS block kicked in. I highly recommend it.
