RETROARCH - The all-in-one emulator dreams are made of, son

It doesn't really change anything for the user, it's just that we consider CG deprecated since it's a dead spec.

We hope shader creators will prefer GLSL moving forward.

I ran into a few inconsistencies migrating to GLSL shaders, but hunterk fixed them all :)

The PC-98 core (Neko Project II) is shaping up well BTW. I was able to complete the recently translated EVO: The Theory of Evolution on it. To make it work best, I had to create a np2 folder in my System folder, then run a game in the core to make it create a .cfg file there. Then I opened that file and set:
Code:
clk_mult=40
DIPswtch=3e f3 6b
skipline=true
skplight=255
Setting the first line to 40 is needed to get some games like Touhou 5 full speed. But EVO can run too fast like that, so 2 or 4 is better for that game. The second sets the CPU frequency to 2.5. Many games error out when set to the default 5. The last two lines remove the scanlines from some games like EVO. Lastly, to get text properly working, put this font file in the System\np2 folder. You might need to delete a temp font file in that folder to get the core to use it.

Looking for assistance with configuring GC controller on my Wii (Retroarch via Homebrew Channel).

The problem is that I can't get any of the GC controller buttons to be recognized. I can move through the settings menu via the left analog stick, but otherwise the system doesn't respond to any of the GC buttons.

If I boot Retroarch via Wiimote it won't even recognize the GC controller.

Sorry but I am at my wit's end. Just looking for a step-by-step for configuring the GC controller.

Thanks

1) Which MAME core should someone generally use? Or try first, as the case may be?

2) I've got a lot of stuttering in the PSP core with this latest release. With the last stable I was able to get smooth frame rates. Anybody have any suggestions?

Speaking of PPSSPP, any ETA on porting the newer versions to libretro?
Also, another thing, any chance of adding user configurable sound being played on achivement get? Something both PS and Xbox do...

If the GC controller is plugged in, you'll have to use that for everything and turn any Wiimotes completely off. Otherwise none of the buttons will work.

Can anyone tell me what's up with the NDS playlist creation and NDS thumbnail selection in Retroarch? I've scanned my rom folder and two separate NDS sections - Nintendo DS Decrypted, and Nintendo DS -
appeared. What's that about? I'm used to one single Playlist entry per console.

Secondly, why is the DS thumbnail selection so small? Like 90% or more of my DS roms don't have any boxart to go along with the game. Not only that, but the Thumbnail folders don't really match with the Playlist titles. For example, I have Nintendo DS Decrypted and Nintendo DSi folder for thumbs, but only Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Decrypted for playlists.

I can't seem to find DS cover art anywhere on the internet either. :/

Does anybody have a working PCSX Rearmed on the latest Luma 8.0 and boot9strap 1.2 homebrew setup?

Until then, I'm still using 1.3.6 version from last December.

The new Meta CRT glsl shader is fun to screw around with:

Now that the Citra core is out, I tried using it and as soon as I try to load a game, it just comes up with an error saying "Failed to load content." Has anyone else had success with loading 3DS games at all?

dont the roms you use have to be patched or something?

I'm super new to the 3DS stuff, but I was testing stuff out yesterday and realized that the roms have to be Decrypred to run on Citra. I have decrypted ones that work with the normal citra emulator, but load those same decrypted roms into Retroarch, and they fail to load. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

So I figured out why Citra wasn't loading my games,

1. The games NEED to be dycrypted.

2. The video driver NEEDS to be GL and not Vulkan.

Once I changed the Video Driver back to GL, it worked fine.

I'm playing around with the hotkey function. All I want is to be able to enable/disable a shader with a combination of buttons.

I can enable the shader with the "next shader" hotkey but I can't find a way to disable it. It just cicles through the same shader over and over (I deleted all the shaders except one).

Is there a way to do this? Like creating an empty shader or something?

EDIT: Well damn, I answered my own question. I created an empty shader and now I can cycle through scanlines and no scanlines.

anyone know how is Retroarch on Wii? Is it better than official VC? Currently i have no issues with SNES, Genesis, and PC Engine VC but i might be oblivious to stuff. If Retroarch is more accurate i'd give it a shot. I know retroarch probably has more features but for me as long as it outputs at 240p and performs well thats good enough.

It's pretty good. Worth it for CPS2 at 240p

Just have to say that Parallel N64 now is in a very usable state :D It still has issues with Bomberman 64 but the rest that I have tested was very good!

It works OK. Many of the cores from PC RetroArch are missing but the ones that are there work fine. Personally I prefer using the Wii's standalone emulators (Genesis Plus GX, etc.) because the UI's and experience are much nicer than RetroArch Wii's text-based interface. Love using RetroArch on PC, though.

I recently improved the FMSX RetroArch core, adding:

* disk image support
* cassette tape support
* improved RAM & VRAM defaults
* RAM & VRAM configuration

It's already in the nightlies, and will be in stable 1.6.1

If I could get a comprehensive yet easy to follow list on how to:

1. Make the interface TV friendly (as in, selecting games with a controller on a big screen).

2. Making the best possible emulator for NES and SNES

I would be super grateful.

Have you tried it?

Interface is almost the same as PS4.

I briefly dabbled with it when the thread went up but haven't looked at it since.

The emulation scene is constantly evolving that I tend to have trouble keeping up.
Interface is much better these days.

If you have a problem with a SNES core on a particular game just try a different SNES core. They're all good, but some work better with specific games.

Can anyone help me with this aspect ratio issue when using borders on GB/GBC games? I've been wrestling with this problem for nearly a year. Any time I use one of the handheld borders with Gambatte the aspect ratio for the game itself appears to be set to 16:9. I tried using the Sameboy core instead and the aspect ratio was 4:3, but the audio was all messed up. I would prefer to use Gambatte but I can't figure out how to fix the aspect ratio of the game.

Edit: TGB Dual gives me the same issue.

Go to Video settings and then change Aspect ratio to 'Custom' and then alter the Custom Aspect ratio settings just below it until it fits in the overlay

I tried changing between all of the different aspect ratios. Some of the aspect ratios cut off parts of the border, but the game display stayed the same for all of them. The shader I was using in the original screenshot was the DMG shader.

I'm also having aspect ratio issues with Final Burn Alpha. No matter what aspect ratio I choose, the screen is stretched. Here is a screenshot:

it was probably a wrong aspect ration index and that's all..

For Citra you still need a rip of the 3DS home folder for some content.

Hey, so hopefully you guys might be able to help me with this. I was wondering if there's any way to add information to roms in custom playlists?

I know with roms that are automatically added to system playlists (like the Kirby's Toy Box games added to SNES), they would display something like this:

But, with games added to a custom playlist (and custom names), here's what shows up (using the same game as above as an example):

So, can what I'm looking to do actually be done? Thanks!

So has anyone actually played around with the Atari Jaguar core much? Any tips?

I recently got an actual Jaguar with some games and comparing it with the emulation, the RA Jag core is pretty bad. Almost nothing runs at the correct speed, lots of glitches, etc. Are there better non-RA Jag emus or is this about as good as it gets? I realize this is a super-niche console but I figured this might be a good place to ask.

So what's the best overlays to get?

Also as a complete newbie to this how do set RetroArch to not have black borders?

I've read the posts about it on this page but it's like reading Dutch.

I tried Genesis Plus GX core and the image fills the screen top to bottom but has black borders left and right, is this just the norm?

I really have no idea what the settings are or anything.

To correctly display 4:3 content on a 16:9 screen then of course you will have black borders. Go to the video options, turn on vsync, disable bilinear filtering and enable integer scaling too.

Stupid question, but has anyone encountered a problem where muting/unmuting audio also makes the game's run way beyond 60 fps? I have no idea what triggers this, but it happens sometimes and it doesn't seem like a core specific problem.

Cool thanks, I also think I have a "problem" of play on my steam link via my laptop at 1366x786 resolution so it's not quite marrying up as I would expect.

Got some tweaking to do I think to get optimally setup, may investigate overlays. Some of the TV ones look cool.

I think that was fixed a couple weeks ago. Try a nightly.
