As sad as it makes me, I think we have to let go of stability gifs. It's all about quality for a while.

i'm getting tired of these. why can't they lump all these stability/performance updates together and put them out once a month or something? i hate having to update my PS4 so often. can i at least postpone it or is it required to access online?
The PS3 was worse

In this specific case, this one needed to go out ASAP since the issue that was affecting FFXIV players was rather serious (having to redownload 20+ GB if they turned the system off without logging out of the game, e.g. a power outage). It turned out to be a problem on Sony's end so a firmware update was necessary to fix it.

Hopefully this is the fix for PS4 FFXIV users who sometimes have to re-download the game because it apparently just breaks or something

Since the last update (before this newest one), i almost daily get a notification in PS4 about 'New events i might like' even though i have the box for notifications about events unchecked.

Sure would make my PS4 more stable if i didnt have to see those anymore.

This is one case where we actually know. Read up.

Yeah but what do they really do? What gets improved? Which apps? What was causing lag and got improved? Did they free more RAM or CPU? They don't give any details.
Other software updates even give the line of code which caused trouble and how it was corrected.
This is not helping at all especially if even updates that bring new features, don't mention some hidden useful features.
I don't know why Sony is being so secretive about details for their updates.

Do we have any idea what 5.0 will add?

Its been so, so long since we had a big update.

I hate Sony's approach to these things. 3 years to this gen, PS4 should be the ultimate media powerhouse. The browser sucks and we can't still use the mouse pad to browse in the internet or through the UI.

Same, but with 'new posts from your communities!' for me. I checked/unchecked that box so many times, still getting that notification every day.

The problem with FF14 is that besides the game being fully downloaded using PS4 system, you need to start the game and download more files (almost same size as the full game) while the game is running which may cause the console to overheat for a long time.
I hope they solve this too so users can download all the file from the PS4 system without needing to launch the game.

I never heard of this hack, any links to support the claim? If this true it could be Dreamcast catastrophic and I hope Sony fixes it.

i saw it at wololo, don't worry, sorry already blocked the Brazilian method that's almost looks very close to this on 4.50,but the Brazilian method was only in some Brazilian local stores, this is for anyone to buy,it's called PS4 mtx key.

i am sure it will be doomed very fast, they are going to sell it for $60-$90,and not all people have soldering skills.

This is the worst part of the PS4. It feels like every month MS is adding a new feature to the OS or improving the quality of life on XBO. I wish Sony made such frequent improvements.

Sorry but have MS finally fixed the atrocious time of game install on xbox one? Because to me this is what can change the quality of life of the System.
What have changed on the X1 system in the last 3 month that have changed the quality of "life" on XBO?

Well, whatever that update did, My pro doesn't like it. First restart and it told me to insert a USB key with firmware on it - next it loaded but hung after loading the desktop + Theme, and now it's just hung on the blue screen before the theme loads...

I had a very similar issue starting the system up this morning, except it did not say anything about inserting the USB key. It just loaded the blue wave desktop wallpaper, displayed the notification thingy about gamepad battery life, and 'hung' there. Had to power down the system by holding down the power button, and go through the whole fsck screen when booting up again.

Went through this twice. Third time I pulled the ethernet cable before powering up and that fixed the problem, although the external storage manager was not happy with the hard shutdown and was slower than usual in bringing up external storage (the HDD icon kept flashing on the UI).

I'm assuming there was some network or disc issue because it then refused to download the new system update (threw some error that is not even listed on the support site). Only upon rebooting a fourth time did it finally download the update, and only upon installing that did the console return to some semblance of its typical boot performance.

So, at least for me, this was really an *instability update*.

that's because:
"The strange thing for us is we got a lot of criticism in PS3 time about doing a lot of releases very quickly and so we listened to that and we learned," he continued. "Because we did [make] mistakes in PS3 time and we've learned and we've listened. So we've taken a different approach and now we're getting possibly different feedback."

Im glad it wasn't just me!

I don't suppose you started the PS4 by inserting the disc for FF12 did you?

I had the error about being unable to download the firmware too. Until I updated the console again (even though it let me use the store etc without it?) the XMB was laggy as all hell, but the update fixed it.

Glad I won't have to keep downloading the FFXIV patch now. Happened FAR too many times while transporting my Ps4 around and people not turning my console off properly!

Why would downloading at the same time cause the system to overheat?

Because instead of doing a regular download of a game with the PS4 system that you can put in sleep mode which consumes less power, so less heat, you have to launch the game and the PS4 doesn't care even if it is the menu, for it, the game is the game so the console runs it in full power as if you were ingame which makes the fan spin much more due to power and heat produced. You have to disable sleep mode too for that otherwise the download shuts down and you have restart from scratch.
Imagine doing this for long long time due to low internet speed and in a very hot place.
You get the idea.

Anyone else's online status busted after this update? When I last slept my PS4 I was appearing offline, now no matter what I change my status to, Online or Appear Offline, I remain to appear logged off.

Restart, turn off and back on, nothing changed it. I just turned the PS4 on and my online status is checked as Online but my profile still has my appearing offline. I click Appear Offline and it goes to the "Please wait..." screen and comes back and Online is still checked. Yet, like I said, I'm appearing offline still.

Skimming reddit and twitter seems like I'm not the only one experiencing weirdness.
