The song kinda seems like its trying to envoke the feeling of older cheesier sonic songs... but doesn't understand... why people like those songs, in any nuanced way so it comes out... kinda meh and bad.

Which, replace song with other elements of this game... and I feel like the criticisms could stick.

I'll do like an above poster said, i've save the brunt of criticisms for the games release, but it isn't giving me hope

Then why not just get Jun Senoue and Crush 40 to do a song?

Like everyone is saying, I'll save the brunt of my criticism for when the game comes out, but these previews and trailers aren't painting a pretty picture.

It's been so long since a Sonic game had a proper cheesy theme song that they should have just gotten Crush 40 to do it. Would have been a safe bet. Their music is one of the few things I really liked about Black Knight.

I feel like for the last two or three Sonic games, Crush 40 has said "yeah we're preparing something" and then nothing ever comes from it

You think they're submitting themes and getting turned away?

I'm sure they're trying to show Sega what they're made of. If they've been getting turned down, then hopefully Sega can open their hearts to getting Crush 40 more work.

Hopefully they Live and Learn from their mistakes if that is the case and Never Turn Back from a challenge. Some say All Hail the Shadow of the past, but I say explore the endless possibility of the future.

Sonic Shuffle is so weird.

I'm rather enjoying Sonic 3D Blast. I do find it offputting how Sonic accelerates WAY too fast in this and is a little slippery to control, but not so bad that you can't maneuver the hazards.
Also Sonic jumps REALLY high, so a quick run+jump guarantees getting past large gaps etc.
Boss fights are piss easy but only made difficult due to needing to know which direction to hold when Jumping.

3D Blast wasn't a good attempt at sort of bringing Sonic into the 3rd dimension but as a standalone game I think it's passable. The Genesis version has the better music but the Saturn version has those lovely special stages. Probably the best SS in the series!

Nothing memorable or good came from that game

I can't think of a non-mobile Sonic game released in the past decade that I'd want to play less than that.

That sounds great! Shame I won't be able to go this year to SDCC.

Replaying Megaman X1 via the PS2 collection and man are my skills rusty. Launch Octopus is driving me up the wall, and I think I may need to take out Boomer Kuwagner first so I can destroy him easier.

When I first played the game a few years ago I started with Boomer Kuwanger's stage, I'm pretty sure they're really banking on you kicking off with Chill Penguin so you can actually dash because those alarm laser grid things were a mess without it.

So my hot tip is get the dash!

I ALWAYS start on Chill Penguin though :p
It's Chill>Spark Mandrill>Armored Armadillo
Guess I'll go hit up Kuwagner later, he shouldn't be too much trouble with the buster...

My path through Mega Man X1 is usually

Chill Penguin -> Storm Eagle -> Flame Mammoth -> Spark Mandrill -> Armored Armadillo -> Launch Octopus -> Boomer Kuwanger -> Sting Chameleon

Remember that X1 (and only X1) does this thing where what you do in one stage effects the others to make them easier. Chill Penguin freezes Flame Mammoth, Storm Eagle crashes in to Spark Mandrill, etc.

X6 brought that concept back somewhat.

a bit of new info about the rol development came out, i didnt know that

in combination with the info we already knew, it makes everyone involved look bad.

Even the TV, Tv show people look worse. Didn't even know they were involved as much as they were

Like, holy shit. Like " hey, you know those suspicions you had of sega not knowing why people liked sonic at all and were just throwing shit at the wall with flagrat disregard to how those things would fit to gether. Not only were you right, that's the entire conception of sonic boom. They had two things that would work well by themselves, had confidence in neither of those things, and smashed them together. Along with other horrific concerns you had about the sonic team creative team becoming more backed up in one fell swoop"

Well, at least hard core knuckles fans, when somoeone questions " sega made knuckles dumb" They can literally point at this time, where they made knuckles dumb, where they actively combated knuckles being competent

Can not be seen much due to Wii U hardware

I really hate the "blame the hardware" bit, especially if they had plans for PS3 anyway.

Except I'm reading that Japan required a stronger emphasis on speed...?

I had no idea what rol meant until the next post :V

Rise of Lyric uses CryEngine right? Why use that? Why not stick to Unreal 3?

Which part of that is this a response to, regardless from what i'm reading is

A designer presents to SEGA the idea of making a Sonic TV show. It was supposed to be separate from the game, but about 8 months before the game's launch, SEGA gave them control of the series, changing big parts of the story and returning Knuckles silly among other things, forcing them to create characters for A richer world that was totally excluded in the series and create scenes and levels stuffed due to the change of history. (I have no information on the previous history, only that the elders would be much more important) Changing big parts of history and returning Knuckles fool among other things, forcing them to create characters for a richer world who were totally excluded in the series and create scenes and levels stuffed due to the change of story.

This part, which is also interesting because it seems like... the reason that the games were so "lore rich", wasn't because of the ROL it was because the TV show team, who were now in charge... wanted that. Despite the show... not being that, which is weird. And forced them to put show characters that weren't really intended to be in the game, to begin with. Because it seemed like " sonic synergy " was supposed to be a much smaller game in scope. This is also where it is mentioned that in they actively made knuckles stupid and sega said it was fine.

And then there's this bit

Designs: Several designs of Sonic and company were discarded for getting too far away from the "Legacy" designs, making them more similar.Several NPCs had to be changed due to violating Sonic Team design guidelines. (Cliff was originally an inventor, but Iizuka said the only inventors should be Tails and Eggman).

Story: The original story was completely eliminated, they flatly refused to tell Sonic's origins, and said they would explain it someday.

So the first part is expected, after the... fuckery that was a lot of the comic for a while , this is completely understandable. I mean... its kinda contradictory to knuckles's design, but for the most part yeah I get them. You don't want any atrocities running around on your brand

However, it doesn't really explain why they let the show team create a more lore filled world, which is contradictory to the next part. That Tails and Eggman could be the " only builders" this doesn't make sense, in a very contained storyless vaccume with no " lore" that works, but when they are trying to create a world, like they let and encouraged the TV team to do with this project. Limiting jobs like that sounds like they didn't know what they wanted. Characters have to be able to exist and be of use to the world at large, that's how a " living world" works.

The sonic origins line is funny to me, I just read it as " when we are ready we will ruin this ourselves"

That all just makes me feel it was an ill-fated idea from the start. Damn shame how it all played out.
it really sucks, and it will suck worse if the tv show dies, because it will be just this thing that happened.

I really hate the "blame the hardware" bit, especially if they had plans for PS3 anyway.

It sounds like PC was lead SKU and while they were thinking about PS3, they weren't developing for it.

CryEngine probably had a lot more support for PS3, too. A Wii U version of Crysis 3 was apparently finished and ready to release, but never made it to market. Supposedly Cervat Yerli (president of Crytek) said CryEngine was fully functional on Wii U, but we'll never know if he was blowing smoke or not.

Keep in mind that the Wii U's architecture was really bizarre -- though it could run "modern games" I've heard it was literally just a souped up Wii with a few extra functions bolted on top of it. The Wii, in itself, was just a souped up Gamecube with extra functions bolted on. So in reality, the Wii U was a really fast version of decade+ old technology. That's why, even though it was technically more capable than a PS3 or 360, it still struggled with cross-gen ports. It took a lot of highly-specialized work to get games up and running on the Wii U, and even more effort to get them working smoothly. Just compare Mario Kart 8 (60fps!) to Sonic Racing Transformed (30fps with worse visuals).

Wii U was a system designed for Nintendo by Nintendo. Everyone else was left out in the cold and most said "fuck this" and just abandoned the system.

Well damn
Storm Eagle's pretty easy long as you know his pattern.

X1 has a kickass soundtrack, it's like every track is metal/rock n roll themed.

I have heard some people say they think Storm Eagle is one of the hardest

I grew up always being able to beat him with just the regular-ass X-Buster

He is easy, people just didn't figure his patten: Just dash and move around and don't try to damage him when goes into his dive phase.

Also fun fact: The JP ver. of the game has various differences to the English version.
For example, in the JP ver., when you get the Haduken, Dr. Light's dialog isn't just a single sentence; he makes a lame 'old guy pun' and talks about training under a waterfall...which is the waterfall in the background before the boss room!

Oh and apparently the X2 trio are named after French words, but got lost in translation.

I'm fond of the first few X games. I can't for the life of me remember the music for whatever reason.

My favorites tend to be the zero games for the gba, i'm also fond of the zx games

Any of you all watching evo?

X1 and 2 are cemented in my brain. Haven't played 3 enough times to have memorized it.

Speaking of Mega Man. I've been playing Mighty Gunvolt and it's the Mega Man game I've wanted for years now. Significantly better that MN9.

I really like the designs of the gunvolt characters, they remind me of the more Zero and ZX era characters, which were ones I liked more.

also don't think being better than MN9 is the highest bar, anyone know what happened to that spin off thing inafune wanted to make, of mn9 or something that he asked for money for
