Football Thread 2016/17 & Offseason |OT2| Wenger In Fam! Wenger Out Blud!

Nah, every pic on his insta had 100's of comments all from Liverpool fans going on about Van Dijk to Liverpool. His notifications must have been mad

Yeah I can imagine. Van Dijk's Twitter though must be a damn mess, I've looked through some of his posts and the replies... jesus.

Never had a problem with players wanting to leave. Only when they start to bitch and moan to the press annoys me. Him taking pics with Liverpool fans is nothing. Lovren and Lallana were the only two to piss me off.

Fair enough.

The whole comments thing is ridiculous. Happens with anyone remotely connected to the club. The owners wife posts a photo of her on holiday and gets a hundred sign Keita/VVD tweets in an hour.

It was "SIGN REUS" for a while. Now it's "SIGN VAN DIJK" or "ANNOUNCE KEITA".

Anyone catch the United match yesterday? Just saw the score and wondered how we played.

Looked alright, it's hard to tell when playing against such shit opposition. Converted most good chances but Rashford and Lukaku missed one each they should have bagged. Lukaku had some good hold up play. Andreas Pereira and Fosu came as part of the 2nd half squad, Pereira had a nice half. LA just gifted so many bad passes in their own half lol. Jose also Went 4-2-3-1 for the first half, went to 3-5-2 fo the 2nd

How many Monaco players have been sold so far this window?

All of them!

Is it 2 so far? One to Chelsea and one to City, with Lemar, Mendy and Fabinho all toouted to leave (in addition to Mbappe)

I hope they can keep that group together for another year at least :(

Last 5 years.... What a nightmare.

Borini had an ok spell at Roma (the best period of his career) before he went to LFC . Maybe they think he can recreate that back in Italy. He scored 9 goals in 24 apps, at a rate of 0.5g per 90. Not actually that bad for an average player.

These transfer prices have fucked everyone outside the top 7. If clubs want to improve their squad, they're looking at paying £25-35m.

True. I can't wait for the bubble to burst, the money that's being thrown around is increasingly distasteful.

Really not sure when people think this is going to happen. PL deal is set for another 2 years and at best, it might not go up after that depending on how poor Sky are.

If someone like beinSport come over and want to play ball then it'll only go up further.

So last summer, Premier League transfer spending was £1.165bn total. According to here, £641.32mil has been spent so far

Anyone want to make a guess on the final total? I reckon it could go big, £1.4bn.

I'll take £1.43bn please.

United are probably going to do another £100m on their own. then City will need to buy 8 more defenders at £50m a piece.

Just because its been working so far doesn't mean it will continue forever though

Streaming will probably come with a big change to how much people pay for the PL, it doesn't seem like a sustainable price for a generation who are used to paying £7 a month for Netflix instead of £50 a month for Sky Sports

Mendy close for like £48m .

Then they need:

Lb
Rb

And rumoured to be after Mbappe

It'll go up again. Sky need the PL after losing the CL again

Liverpool would probably contribute £100m+ if we actually get both of our big targets (soz Beefy). West Ham are surely actually gonna land a deal sometime as well surely?

Live sport costs money and generates money, and that isn't going to change just because people that want to watch Netflix and Amazon (and the types of shows that they produce) like paying £7 a month instead of £50. For it to make an impact, there needs to be less people bidding for the packages not more as the PL will sell to the highest bidder (sort of. Rumour in the industry is that BT outbid Sky for all packages this time around).

If Netflix or Amazon decided to weigh in and try to buy a package it would only drive the prices for each match package up and the competition will drive prices down for us.

If people really do get driven away from Sky or BT because of cost and those companies no longer have the money to bid £11m per game then someone else will step in to try and do it. That could even be Amazon or Netflix. Amazon certainly has the money.

BT though wanted to come in and disrupt the industry and they knew that buying the sport will help them get subscribers for phone lines and broadband which is where they can basically fleece people because operating costs are comparatively low.

Sky can make less profit from both, since it all has to go through BT networks anyway.

I'd love the PL to be back on the BBC or on Netflix or something, though at the moment my internet is shit so fuck that.

Instead, I for the first time just subscribed to sky Sport and BT sport, 8 years after leaving my parents home. Why? Because BT were offering half price and Sky gave me 60% off. So I get every broadcast PL game, FA Cup, league cup, CL and my F1 for £30.49 a month, much better than the sticker price of about £62 a month to get the pair on Sky (not including the base package).

It'll go up again. Sky need the PL after losing the CL again

Sky actually aren't too fussed about the CL, as the deal is for UK market only and people in the UK only really watch the English teams. Despite that, they have to cover every game which is a lot of work and money. While they'd have it if it was going, they are fine letting BT faff around with it.

we are stacked, m8. Bringing a top class striker would only cause troubles in the squad for playing time.

We're set to go. Can't wait to see us playing this season.

2013 was just so great. Remember mandzukic, gomez and pizarro as our strikers?
It just takes one dortmund game before an important cl game to take out lewandowski and consequently our attack like the last 2 years.
