From the late 80s the 2 working parent family has been the norm. It's just an economic necessity.
Kids get raised in childcare. Parents rely on takeout and pre-packaged food rather than teaching kids how to cook. Parents don't have the time or energy to be parents so they plug their kids into ipads and tvs.
No wonder young people are getting, fatter, dumber, vainer and more socially reliant on technology. We gained so much when women left the traditional mothering roles but we also lost a hell of a lot.

Societal shifts have improved economy so rather than address the issues the government preferred to have the $$$. At least we aren't as bad as the US.
Stay at home parents won't fix any of those things.
Childcare encourages exercise, socialisation, and learning better than any individual parent could do. I'm not so sure it's much benefit under the age of two though, so I can see some benefit in encouraging the parents to look after their kid at home until that age. That won't happen without some pretty major economic support though.

Encouraging both parents to work makes sure they both have independence should the relationship go south. Arranging society around the assumption that every marriage will last 20+ years is a bad idea.
I'm fairly sure weight and technology issues are around the availability of cheap products that provide instant gratification. I have no idea what the solution is to any of those problems are but I don't think it's mum.
Also I don't know what the evidence is that young people now are dumber than young people in the 70s. I doubt that's the case.
Its why I'm rather unwilling to have ids in that atmosphere. I so loved having at least one parent around to actually parent.

As far as I can tell, it's signing up for Foxtel Now for $15 per month (Drama or Pop package).
Someone is now going to tell me "lol only available if you already have foxtel" or something, aren't they?

I was going to say Foxtel Now, which as it in one package. That has a PS4 app now (and I imagine an xbox one too).
Or I guess using Foxtel Go with a family members login.

Splitting the cost with my brother in law, I signed up and now Rupert has my credit card details. $15 isn't extortion and convenience trumps my moral qualms.

Does anyone know what the quality is like? Is it full 1080p for live stuff, and is the archived stuff the same?
For live stuff I think it's only 720p, but that might depend on what client.

I used a trial for Foxtel Now, from memory everything you'd want to watch was HD. But archived stuff didn't seem to be complete seasons ala Netflix.

That's about as far as I got into both games. Had some performance issues with wd2, which should be sorted by now.

I've been enjoying Mafia III at lunch on my work PC. It's repetitive in design but fun to ply in burts of n hour or so. I could imagine if you were trying to blast through it, it'd probably lose its charm pretty quickly- but that's any long by design game.
WD2- no idea after I got bored by the fist one, but its better by most accounts. Can't imagine it'd be that much less grindey than MIII.
Mafia III's missions are made for people who like third person shooters or stealth.
Andromeda is probably worth it when it does the usual EA trick of depreciating to $10 or less (which I expect by Xmas)

I think it's a great way to freshen things up and personally think Whittaker could be a great choice for the role.
I know your spoiler text is supposed to be a joke but the two things aren't even comparable. The Doctor is an alien that regenerates into completely different bodies at the end of each form's life. The character does not have to be tied to any specific gender and Time Lords have precedent of being gender fluid in the canon already.
Agreed, bring it on.

I think it's less about "freshness", and more about the BBC shooting for more diversity, and inclusiveness. Personally I think it's great. Missy/The Master was brilliant in the last season so there's no reason this actor couldn't be too. Having such a high profile show making this move is important.
And if you really can't stand it, there's a good 50 years of episodes featuring guys that they can't take away from you.

Probably my second favourite Doctor, Sylvester McCoy.
As for the new Doctor? That's not I would have done, I'd have brought in her as a different timelord. But hey I lost interest midway through the Smith run and haven't been back.
I guess at least the new doctor isnt USian.
Bringing her in as a secondary character wouldn't be nearly as impactful. It's not even comparable. There is nothing in the canon to suggest that the Doctor HAS to be a white male every regeneration and the female regeneration has both precedence and has been teased to death last season. It's been a long time coming and Whittaker has the potential to be a great Doctor based on her acting chops.
People should be more concerned about the writing and direction of the next series and we have yet to see anything of that so it's way too early to judge.

I'm curious to see how long it takes until the episodes become available in the 'on-demand' pool. If it's only a day or two that's great. If it's a week or longer then that's less ideal.

Who wants to be the first person to take the plunge on Foxtel Now and let the rest of us know if the On Demand episode is up yet (it should have aired at 11am today and gone into one demand after that), and whether it's higher than 720p?
